“I introduced you to my mother as my girlfriend today, and we're expected for dinner on Sunday night.” Zayan said just as we sat down for dinner.
I froze in shock, not understanding a word of what he just said. Didn't I just make it clear that I couldn't marry this man? And then he still went ahead and did this?
I didn't even stop to process my actions, I raised my right hand and slapped him hard across his face.
“How dare you?” I shouted, “Are you deaf or stupid? Didn't I make my point clear enough?”
He only rubbed his cheek, staring at me before he smirked, “There's the spark I knew that you're hiding.”
“Don't speak like that to me! You may have helped me, but that doesn't give you the right to treat me like a pawn. I'm a person, capable of making my own decisions!” I raged.
“And I'm not trying to take away your autonomy. I'm only offering you an out. You need me right now, and you know it.” He said, looking straight into my eyes.
I held his stare, trying not to appear weak in the slightest. I hated how right he was, though. I had nothing, a fact which was proven by me arguing with a guy I didn't know from anywhere over a stupid contract marriage.
The worst part was that, I was actually considering it.
I had looked into him during the day while he was away. He only told me his first name, so that was all I had to search with. I discovered that he was Zayan Reed, the youngest and most influential billionaire in the city. He already came from a wealthy family, one that even my family couldn't compare to, but the most interesting part was that all of his money was self made. He owned chains of businesses around the city, and was widely respected. I wondered why I didn't make the connection immediately I saw him, I guess I was to occupied with the trauma I had experienced just prior to the accident.
“With the look on your face, I'm guessing you looked into me during the day. You know who I am, and you also know that I'll be able to help you.” he said, not breaking the eye contact with me.
I looked away, not wanting to acknowledge the truth in his words. I needed help, and he was the only one capable of giving it to me currently.
“Just think about it, I'll give you till the end of the day. But consider my offer, please.” he said before leaving me alone in the room, leaving his dinner untouched.
I sat down and stared into the distance, my thoughts running at a million miles per hour. Darren and Aeris had ruined me so thoroughly, I had almost no chances of a comeback. My parents? I doubted that they would even help me. In all things, I was alone with no money and nowhere to go.
But Zayan's offer…
All I had to do was pretend to be his wife for a year, and he was going to compensate me for it. He was rich, and I had nothing to lose.
And if I really wanted to get revenge on my traitorous twin sister and scumbag ex husband, I needed all the help I could get. Because there was no way I was going to let them go after what they did to me.
I had made my decision.
I left the dining area and went deeper into the apartment to look for Zayan. I found his room door slightly ajar, so I knocked softly before entering. The room was tastefully decorated, with a large bed at one side and dark wood furniture placed at strategic points in the room.
“Zayan,” I called out when I didn't see him inside the room.
A door I didn't notice earlier that was to the right opened, revealing Zayan wearing nothing but a pair of gray sweatpants, with a small towel hanging around his neck. I let my eyes trail down his body, taking in the well muscled arms, the defined chest and the grooves of the stacked muscles of his abdomen, and finally, a sinful V which led straight into the sweatpants that's sat low on his hips.
He chuckled, noticing my perusal of him, which brought me back to the present. I could feel a deep blush coloring my cheeks at being caught staring.
“I… I um, I've made my decision.” I stammered, avoiding all eye contact with him.
“Really? And what did you decide?” He asked, a teasing tone evident in his voice.
“Before I tell you, what are the benefits of your proposal?” I asked him.
“Well,” he moved closer to me, until only an inch separated our bodies, “you get my last name for one. You get the benefits associated with being my wife. And after a year, we dissolve the marriage on amicable terms, and I'll settle you with money, a house and a car. Is that okay for you?”
I breathed in, the air saturated with his scent, which smelled like rich spices, then asked, “And will I be expected to do anything else while being married to you?”
“Anything else, like what?” he teased, smirking down at me.
“Like, consummating the marriage?” I whispered.
He only looked at me deeply, then replied, “We don't have to do anything you don't want to do.”
His voice glided over my skin like a warm caress, making me feel hot all over.
“I'll marry you.” I told him, sealing my fate.
He nodded and moved back a few steps, the atmosphere becoming a lot colder all of a sudden.
“I'll have the paperwork ready for you by tomorrow night, and we'll be married by the end of the week.” he said, his voice a sharp contrast to the seductive lilt from a few minutes ago.
I only nodded to show my acceptance, burying my face in my hands and running out the room. I went to the guest room and locked the door, leaning against it and collapsing to the ground.
I honestly had no idea what I was doing. I went from being married to being divorced, back to being married all in the space of 48 hours.
All I had to do now was make the best of my situation.
I picked myself off of the floor and sat on the bed, thinking of the next move to make. Just as fate would have it, I now had a strong backing. My sister and ex husband wouldn't know what hit them. I was coming back with full force, and they were going to pay for their actions against me.
It was time to put my revenge plan into motion.
