There was no morning run today; Luo Ye and the senior went to the cafeteria for breakfast.
Sitting across from the Fairy Senior, Luo Ye lowered his head, not knowing how to face her.
Su Baizhou’s expression was neutral as she looked at the uneasy young man before her. “Did you get into a fight yesterday?”
Luo Ye lifted his head, surprised. “Senior, how did you know?”
“Why a fight?”
Instead of accusing him outright, Su Baizhou first asked for the reason.
Luo Ye explained, “He was chasing a girl who already had a boyfriend. That boyfriend is my roommate, so I thought he should be stopped.”
She nodded. The argument was reasonable.
“But fighting is wrong. Next time be smarter and avoid creating future trouble,” Su Baizhou said sternly.
“I understand.”
Luo Ye nodded solemnly, made a throat‑clearing motion, and said, “Next time I’ll handle it cleanly so he can’t even open his mouth.”
Su Baizhou was momentarily speechless. I was only asking you to consider the consequences before you act, and you summed it up like that… you get it.
After breakfast, Luo Ye checked the clock. Only two minutes remained before class started, and panic rose in his face.
He rose from the table and hurried, “Senior, class is about to begin, I’ll be going now.”
He jogged out.
At the cafeteria entrance, a soft, doughy‑looking girl entered and collided with the rushing Luo Ye. She fell flat on the floor.
“Sorry, classmate, are you okay… huh? Senior Qin, I’m really sorry, I have a class, I’ll treat you to a meal another day.”
Luo Ye helped the dazed Qin Yuwen up from the floor, muttered a few more apologies, and dashed toward his classroom.
Aside from a sore butt, Qin Yuwen didn’t register what had happened. When she came to, the guy who had knocked her down was already gone.
She frowned, irritated, “Who was that, pretending we’re familiar, then offering to buy me a meal? What a fake promise.”
Qin Yuwen entered the cafeteria, bought breakfast, and found Su Baizhou’s seat, sitting directly opposite her.
Qin Yuwen and Su Baizhou were roommates, so Qin Yuwen knew Su Baizhou’s habits well and expected to find her at the cafeteria.
Even Su Baizhou looked slightly surprised. “Yuwen, you actually get up for breakfast?”
“No one looks down on me. I, Qin Yuwen, decide to stop slacking, study hard, improve every day.”
Qin Yuwen’s face lit up with determination. Su Baizhou hesitated a moment, then said, “There’s no chance now. We’re already in our junior year; you won’t learn much more.”
“What?”
Qin Yuwen’s mouth opened wide, stunned by the harsh reality.
She quickly steadied herself and added, “It’s okay, I can take the graduate exam.”
“You won’t pass,” Su Baizhou replied bluntly.
Qin Yuwen had coasted through three years of university, witnessing the whole process.
Hearing that, Qin Yuwen drooped, “My startup died halfway through.”
“Anyway, Baizhou, your sharp tongue will ruin any future boyfriend’s confidence.”
“It won’t,” Su Baizhou said flatly.
“It won’t? How can you be sure? What did you say you won’t?”
Qin Yuwen seemed to have heard a monumental secret and was shocked. She stared at Su Baizhou’s face, recalling the senior’s recent odd behavior, and guessed boldly, “There’s definitely something off. Baizhou, you moved into the teachers’ apartments so fast—are you hiding a man?”
“You’re keeping a man in the teachers’ apartments!”
Su Baizhou took a sip of soy milk without changing expression, neither nodding nor shaking her head, and said casually, “Your guess.”
“Ah, not again.”
Qin Yuwen was about to lose it. She had noticed that Su Baizhou had been using her gaming account for the past few days, so she knew her roommate was constantly playing with the same person online.
She didn’t know who that person was, and in games gender is often fabricated; even if Su Baizhou claimed the player “Falling Leaves Return” was a girl but set the gender to male, she couldn’t prove it.
“Baizhou, you’re so weird. Tell me honestly—do you have any interest in any of the male students on campus? Are you dating online?”
Su Baizhou fell silent. She was speechless, unable to respond to Qin Yuwen’s wild speculation.
Qin Yuwen, however, didn’t think that silence meant innocence.
“Exactly, you’re secretly dating someone online. You’ve never been in a relationship, you’re gorgeous, and when you finally meet someone in person they’ll have ulterior motives.”
She volunteered, “I’ll keep an eye on you. I want to see who is tricking my roommate Baizhou into a fake romance.”
“I’m not in a relationship,” Su Baizhou said coolly.
“Denying it is admitting it, Baizhou. Stop lying to me.”
Su Baizhou: …
Three minutes after the class bell rang, Luo Ye finally arrived at the classroom door.
In the back row, Wang Dachi and Shen Qiao exchanged glances toward him.
Luo Ye didn’t see them; he muttered apologetically, “Professor, sorry I’m late.”
Wang Dachi and Shen Qiao’s faces turned a shade of disappointment.
The professor at the podium, an older man, frowned, “Late? Class monitor, didn’t you just say during roll call that no one was late?”
Li Haoyang stood up awkwardly, “Professor, during roll call Luo Ye was in the bathroom.”
Hearing that, Luo Ye snapped to attention and replied, “Yes, professor, I had a stomach ache and was in the bathroom.”
“Alright, find a seat and listen.”
“Got it.”
Luo Ye sat next to Shen Qiao and Wang Dachi.
That’s when he realized the lecturer looked familiar.
It wasn’t just any professor—it was the vice‑dean of Jiang University, Professor Li Ping, Gu Mingxuan’s teacher and the Fairy Senior’s mentor.
Wait, if he was Li Ping’s student, wouldn’t that put him a generation above Gu Mingxuan, even higher than the Fairy Senior?
Luo Ye felt a surge of pride.
However, he was only Li Ping’s student, not really a disciple. Only those who passed Gu’s graduate exams could call themselves proper apprentices.
“Since you’re the last to arrive, answer this question.”
Professor Li Ping turned his gaze toward Luo Ye.
He had seen the boy before on the track, running with Su Baizhou during their morning jog.
Thus in this class, Professor Li Ping only knew Luo Ye, and whenever there was a question, the first person he’d call on would be Luo Ye.
Finally, Professor Li Ping memorized Luo Ye’s name and formally appointed him as his class representative.
