**Chapter 42: Birthday**
Luoye opened the door.
The living room was quiet, but the light in Xuejie's room was on.
Luoye was about to turn on the light when the door to Xuejie's room opened.
The moment the door creaked, the light in Subaizhou's room went out.
Now the living room was pitch black. Luoye could only make out a dark silhouette at the entrance to the fairy senior's room.
"Xuejie?" Luoye asked, puzzled.
Subaizhou stepped forward. The sound of high heels echoed through the living room.
High heels? Why was Xuejie wearing high heels?
Subaizhou walked to the table, pulled a newly bought lighter from her pocket.
Luoye heard the sound of the lighter. The next moment, the table lit up. Rows of candles flickered to life on a cake.
Luoye was stunned.
He came to the table, a blank expression on his face.
"Xuejie, this is..."
"This is your birthday cake."
Subaizhou handed the birthday hat to Luoye and said flatly, "Put it on. Make a wish."
Hearing that, Luoye sat down. He looked at the birthday hat in front of him, then at the fairy senior sitting across from him—expressionless, but her eyes fixed intently on him.
Luoye felt that at this moment, Subaizhou had become even more beautiful than before.
Before, he only thought Subaizhou was very pretty.
But now it was different. Now, Subaizhou was beauty itself.
Liking someone came with a halo.
From the moment liking appeared, whether someone was pretty or not was no longer determined by their looks.
Just like how Luoye saw Subaizhou now.
The candlelight was dim, only illuminating the table, barely allowing them to see each other's faces.
Luoye put the birthday hat on his head.
Looking at the candles before him, Luoye closed his eyes and said, "I wish..."
"Saying it out loud makes it not come true," Subaizhou reminded softly.
But Luoye hadn't intended to say it out loud anyway.
After the words "I wish," Luoye silently spoke his wish in his heart.
I wish that the fairy senior likes me too.
Then Luoye blew out the candles and opened his eyes.
The living room went dark again.
It was pitch black all around, only Subaizhou's voice reaching Luoye's ears.
"What did you wish for?"
Hearing that, Luoye said, "Xuejie, saying it out loud makes it not come true."
"That's true."
She had just reminded him of that, and now he was reminding her.
She was very curious about Luoye's wish.
She didn't know what it was, but she hoped this junior's wish would come true.
She hoped that the person who brought her happiness would be happy.
Suddenly.
The light turned on.
Subaizhou looked at Luoye standing by the switch, a bit startled, as if she hadn't processed it.
Why had this guy suddenly turned on the living room light?
"What's wrong, Xuejie?" Luoye looked confused.
Why did the fairy senior seem off? Her expression was a bit unnatural.
"Nothing."
Subaizhou stood up and walked stiffly toward her room.
The sound of high heels clicked again. Luoye looked over, his face filled with shock, his eyes wide.
"Xuejie... you're..."
Before him, Subaizhou was wearing a black camisole short dress, revealing her fair, smooth arms entirely.
For Subaizhou, who at the very least wore short sleeves, even a camisole made her feel shy.
She wasn't wearing anything underneath. The camisole short dress covered just above her knees, but it still couldn't hide her long, perfect legs.
Paired with high heels, Subaizhou's legs looked like works of art—pale, straight, impossible to look away from.
Absolutely perfect.
No one at Jiangda had probably ever seen the fairy senior in a camisole.
Subaizhou turned her back, her face slightly flushed. She spoke softly, "Does it look good?"
"Y-yes... it looks good."
Hearing that, Subaizhou breathed a sigh of relief.
Lixia hadn't lied to her. It worked.
She had been completely against wearing this outfit.
But Lixia had dragged her to the mall, bought this whole set, and made Subaizhou try it on in the fitting room right there.
Looking at herself in the mirror, even Lixia found her tempting, let alone a guy like Luoye.
When the ice-cold goddess played innocent and tempting, the contrast was simply unbeatable.
At Lixia's strong urging, Subaizhou bought the outfit.
But now her heart was already panicking. After letting Luoye have a look, she quickly returned to her room and changed into her pajamas.
Her pajamas were very conservative—light blue ice silk short sleeves and long pants with little bunny patterns.
At the same time, Subaizhou was holding another gift she had prepared for Luoye.
It was a keyboard!
A pink one!
Subaizhou said flatly, "I heard from Professor Gu that you're always typing on a keyboard at home, so I'm giving you this."
Hearing that, the corner of Luoye's mouth twitched.
He typed on a keyboard to write.
But it was a gift from the fairy senior, so Luoye naturally accepted it with satisfaction.
Little did he know that from the moment he accepted this keyboard, in the near future, his knees would form a deep bond with this pink keyboard.
Nothing more to say that night.
The next day, Luoye woke up.
Today was the day students returned to Jiangda. That evening, their class would have a collective roll call.
That meant he had to go back to the dorm to see his three sons.
Today, to go for a morning run with the fairy senior, Luoye got up very early.
In the living room, Subaizhou had changed into her usual black running clothes and was about to head out when she heard movement behind her.
Seeing Luoye's listless expression, Subaizhou said, "Can you do it?"
Those three words directly triggered Luoye.
"I definitely can!"
Subaizhou didn't say anything more and walked out of the living room.
Luoye followed behind her. They went to the neighboring Jiangda and started running on the track in the early morning.
At this hour, the sun hadn't appeared yet, though the sky was already bright.
Not far away, an elderly couple was doing tai chi.
An old man and an old woman—probably an elderly married couple.
When the old man saw Subaizhou, he greeted her.
She nodded politely.
Luoye asked, puzzled, "Who is that?"
"The vice dean of Jiangda. My grand-teacher," Subaizhou said.
Vice dean of Jiangda? That impressive?
Wait, what did "grand-teacher" mean?
Given that the fairy senior's teacher was Gumingxuan, then Gumingxuan's teacher was the fairy senior's grand-teacher.
After figuring that out, Luoye looked at the old man again.
So the vice dean of Jiangda was his cousin's teacher.
Then for Luoye, he was not just a teacher-student relationship, but an elder.
