Chapter 43 – The King Dachi

1169 Words
After their run, Luo Ye and Su Baizhou grabbed breakfast together. Since Luo Ye was there, they ate at the breakfast shop instead of the cafeteria. The shop owner knew Su Baizhou well—she came every morning after her jog for a quick bite, only occasional trips to the canteen. When she saw a guy walking with Su Baizhou, she gave a knowing smile but said nothing. When they finished eating, the two returned to the staff‑apartment building. Luo Ye sank onto the sofa and fell silent. He sensed he was about to be shown the door. Su Baizhou changed into her usual clothes, stepped out of her room, and said, “The student council is having a turnover, so I’ve been swamped lately.” “Turnover?” “Yes, seniors are heading off to internships, so we juniors have a lot to sort out and we’ll pass the posts to the sophomores.” Hearing that, Luo Ye finally realized the senior was already a junior—she’d be interning next year, and he’d still be a sophomore. He wondered what their relationship would be then. As Su Baizhou headed for the door, Luo Ye asked, “Senior, how did I perform these past few days?” Su Baizhou froze for a split second, having forgotten the question. Seeing Luo Ye’s earnest yet slightly nervous expression, she decided to tease the junior a bit. “You guess.” The ice‑queen goddess uttered the two words without a flicker of emotion, leaving Luo Ye clueless. She left, and Luo Ye could only sigh. He scanned the room, especially the kitchen. He retreated to his own room, packed his belongings, loaded the boxed lunch from the fridge, slipped the pink keyboard Su Baizhou had given him into his bag, and headed to the exit. He cast one last glance at the place and resolved to claim it properly someday. After leaving, Luo Ye returned to his dorm. Room 515 was, as always, empty. Just like the first day of school, he was the first to arrive. Li Haoyang was the second, as usual. Seeing the coach, Luo Ye suddenly remembered he had something important to discuss. “Coach, I have… ” “Talk later, Luo Ye. Chen Ge is looking for me.” Before Luo Ye could finish, Li Haoyang dropped his bag and rushed out. As class monitor, it was normal for him to field Chen Xiongjian’s requests—he handled sign‑ins, attendance, everything. Because of his position, Li Haoyang was always the busiest guy in the dorm: workouts, class affairs, dating… But the last item on his list was about to hit a wall. Luo Ye decided to bring up his issue with the other roommates first, then find a moment to have a serious chat in the dorm. They often pranked each other, but when it mattered, none of them’d back down—especially Wang Dachi. Before long, Wang Dachi burst in, backpack slung over his shoulder. “Ha ha ha, my boys, miss me?” He vaulted in like a monkey, plopped onto a stool, and, seeing only Luo Ye in the room, asked, “Yo, Kid Ye, didn’t the coach say he was here in the group chat? Where’s he?” “He’s busy.” Luo Ye turned a serious gaze on Wang Dachi. “Dachi‑bro, I need to talk to you.” “Talk?” Wang Dachi glanced at Luo Ye’s pink shirt and the pink keyboard on the desk, his eyes widening in shock. “Whoa, Kid Ye, you’re dating someone?” Luo Ye: … All the tension he’d been building collapsed in an instant. “How do you even make a serious conversation with this dude?” “Not that. Something else.” After Luo Ye spilled what he’d seen, Wang Dachi’s eyes bulged, and he launched a mock accusation, “You little punk, stop slandering that ice‑heart beauty. Yeah, she’s the coach’s girlfriend now, but suddenly she smells way better, hehe. Oh, and don’t tell the coach—I’m afraid he’ll beat me up.” Luo Ye’s blood boiled. “Man, you’re such a simp, not even believing a brother.” Wang Dachi softened a bit, “Alright, Kid Ye, I get that Ice‑Heart might not be perfect, but the coach’s emotional intelligence is low. If he doesn’t go through stuff like this, how will he grow?” Wang Dachi suddenly turned all‑business, which threw Luo Ye off balance. “Can you stop flipping between hype and calm?” “Dachi‑bro’s right.” Shen Qiao walked in, his expression as even as always, “If the coach doesn’t learn from this, there’ll be round two, three—more trash girls trying to get close to him.” “Are we just going to stand by?” Luo Ye asked. Shen Qiao thought a moment, then said, “Just tell him the truth. How he reacts, what he does, is up to him.” Both Luo Ye and Wang Dachi nodded. Suddenly, Wang Dachi lunged at Luo Ye, clamped an arm around his shoulders, and with a mischievous grin said, “Kid Ye, stop dodging the topic. What’s with that pink‑poppy outfit? Huh? This fabric looks cheap. Didn’t you just go to Hangcheng? How are you still squeezing time to swing by the village?” “What? This outfit is cheap?” Luo Ye snapped, and the two started a playful scuffle. They were goofing around when Shen Qiao seized the chance, sprinted forward, and yanked Wang Dachi’s pants off. “Who’s attacking me?” Wang Dachi spun. Shen Qiao smirked, muttering, “Little bird.” Wang Dachi’s face flushed with embarrassment and anger. He hauled his pants back up, shouting, “I’ll kill you!” Shen Qiao wasn’t fazed, but his expression quickly shifted. In a flash, he found himself pinned to the bed by Wang Dachi. All his clothes were still on, so the attack was purely humiliating. “Wang Dachi… you f‑‑‑” Even Shen Qiao couldn’t help cursing, his face a portrait of existential dread. “That’s twisted,” Luo Ye muttered. “Kid Ye, and you too.” Wang Dachi stared at Luo Ye, who shivered, gooseflesh popping off his skin. “Luo Ye, finish him off!” Shen Qiao shouted. “Sorry, Dachi‑bro.” Wang Dachi took a beating from the two of them. Soon it was roll‑call time for the return to campus. The three scrambled to tidy their clothes; the dorm was a mess, and their wild antics left a lingering sense of something unthinkable having just happened. They exchanged glances and burst into laughter. “Let’s go sign in.” “Let’s go.” “Let’s go.” After the scuffle, they slung their arms over each other as if nothing had happened and headed toward the classroom.
