Chapter Three
Valentina
I woke to darkness.
I couldn’t move.
My body felt as though it were burning from the inside.
I tried to call Esmerelda.
Nothing.
“Esmerelda?”
Silence.
“Anastasia?”
Nothing.
For the first time in eleven years, I was completely alone inside my own mind.
Fear began to creep in.
Then I heard it.
A woman’s voice.
Soft.
Elegant.
Almost amused.
“Finally.”
I froze.
“Who are you?”
A figure emerged from the darkness.
She was beautiful, with long dark hair, pale skin, crimson eyes and a smile that revealed two sharp fangs.
I backed away.
“What are you?”
The woman smiled.
“You already know.”
I shook my head. “No.”
The woman stepped closer.
“Vampire.”
My heart raced.
“But I’m a wolf.”
The woman laughed softly.
“Yes.”
“I’m a witch.”
“Yes.”
I stared at her.
“Then what are you doing inside me?”
The woman’s smile disappeared.
She placed her hand against my chest.
“I have always been here.”
My breathing stopped.
The woman leaned closer.
“My name is Valentina.”
The darkness around us began to tremble.
“I am your vampire spirit.”
I stared at her.
“No…”
Valentina smiled.
“Oh, yes.”
Suddenly, memories flooded through my mind.
Blood.
Fire.
A castle.
A woman crying.
A man fighting.
A child being carried through the darkness.
A pendant.
Snow.
My mother.
My father.
I screamed.
My eyes snapped open.
I was lying in the middle of the forest, surrounded by snow.
But something had changed.
My breathing was different. My senses were sharper.
I could hear the heartbeat of a rabbit hundreds of feet away. I could smell blood beneath the snow. I could hear voices inside the pack’s main estate despite being deep in the forest.
And then my fangs descended.
I touched my mouth, and my hands began trembling.
“Valentina…”
The voice answered inside my mind.
Valentina: Yes, little wolf.
I swallowed.
What am I?
For the first time, all three voices were present.
Esmerelda.
Anastasia.
And Valentina.
Three spirits.
Three bloodlines.
One body.
Esmerelda: Our sister has awakened.
Anastasia: This changes everything.
Valentina laughed softly.
Valentina: No, my loves.
A crimson glow appeared within my eyes.
Valentina: This begins everything.
Somewhere far beyond the borders of the Snowflake Pack, ancient creatures suddenly opened their eyes.
They had felt it.
The awakening.
The return of something that had been thought impossible.
The Tri-Breed had awakened.
And the supernatural realm was about to learn my name.
Amoura.
