Diana
Darkness enveloped me, leaving me in a void space that stretched out endlessly around me. I struggled to make sense of the nightmare that held me in its grip, looking around and hoping to find a source of light that'd be my way out.
Amid the oppressive silence, an unfamiliar voice whispered to me, its words echoing with a strange, otherworldly power that sent shivers down my spine.
"Diana," the voice called out sternly.
"You have been given a second chance," it intoned, the sound both soothing and ominous. Confusion clouded my mind as I tried to understand the meaning behind its cryptic message, a sense of foreboding tightening my chest.
I attempted to speak, to demand answers and clarity from the strange voice, but no sound escaped my lips—I was mute. Panic clawed at me, the realization of my voicelessness adding to the disorientation that plagued my senses.
The voice grew louder, its words now a thunderous roar that reverberated through my consciousness. It warned me not to let go of my second chance, and to use it wisely because it would be my last. The intensity of the warning pressed against my skull, threatening to crush me beneath its unfathomable power.
As the sound of the voice reached a point where it started to feel like my ears would start to bleed, I felt a searing pain in my head, a deafening agony that threatened to tear me apart. The world tilted and spun, darkness closing in around me until, with a sudden jolt, my eyes fluttered open.
A dimly lit room greeted me, its walls shrouded in shadows of objects under the faint light. My heart raced with confusion and disbelief as I tried to piece together the fragments of my fragmented consciousness.
How had I survived the silver knife? How am I alive right now and, more importantly, where was I? How did I get into this place?
Fighting through the haze of lingering dread, I forced myself to take in my surroundings. The room was so large and luxurious, and it reminded me of my old room, the size and layout stirring a sense of déjà vu in me.
With a trembling hand, I attempted to sit up, only to be halted by a sharp, stabbing pain that radiated from my back.
Glancing down, I noticed the fresh bandages wrapped around the wound where the silver knife had pierced me. The realization that I was still in pain, still healing from the fatal blow that had been dealt to me, sent another wave of disorientation crashing over me.
Gritting my teeth against the throbbing ache, I took in my surroundings again. The room was sparsely furnished, a single window casting a sliver of light across the floor.
Several questions swirled through my mind as I tried to piece together the many thoughts in my head. I was thrown out of my pack, betrayed and rejected by Elijah, and then some strange men stabbed me with a silver knife intending to kill me.
With all that, how had I come to be here, alive when I should have been dead? And most pressing of all, what did the voice in my nightmare mean by a second chance? Am I supposed to be dead? Was being alive now the second chance the voice meant?
As I lay in the dimly lit room, grappling with the cryptic message of the voice that had haunted my dream, the sudden sound of the door creaking open shattered the tranquility that surrounded me.
Startled, I turned my gaze towards the entrance, my heart pounding with a mixture of curiosity and apprehension.
A short young girl, appearing to be about my age, entered the room with a sense of urgency in her hasty footsteps. Her eyes widened in pleasant surprise as she noticed that I was awake, a warm smile gracing her features as she approached the bedside.
"My lady, you're finally awake! I was beginning to worry," the girl exclaimed, her voice gentle. I studied her closely, taking in the earnest expression that lit up her face as she spoke.
Confusion clouded my mind as I struggled to process the sudden appearance of this stranger. "Who are you, and where am I?" I blurted out, unable to contain the flood of questions that swirled in my mind.
The girl, her gaze kind and understanding, met my bewildered gaze with a reassuring smile. "My name is Jenny, and I was tasked with checking up on you during your recovery," she explained, her voice calm.
Furrowing my brows in confusion, I pressed on, desperation creeping into my tone. "Where am I? How did I get here?" I demanded, my voice edged with a sense of urgency.
Jenny's smile remained unwavering as she hesitated, her gaze flickering briefly before she spoke. "I'm afraid I can't divulge that information, my lady," she replied cryptically.
Her response only served to deepen the mystery surrounding my current situation, and as much as I tried to tell myself not to be nervous, I couldn't help it.
Before I could probe further, Jenny's expression shifted, the look on her face turning into a more serious one. "I must leave now to inform my master that you have awakened, My Lady. He will be able to answer any questions you may have," she announced, maintaining the friendliness in her tone.
As Jenny turned to leave, I was quick to stop her, realizing that I still needed her help before she left. "Wait, can you help me sit up?" I called out, the ache in my body constantly reminding me of my frail state.
Jenny paused at the threshold, her back turned towards me as she considered my request. "I don't think it's wise for you to be sitting upright just yet, My Lady. Please, be patient. My master will be here soon," she reassured me before slipping out of the room, leaving me alone with my thoughts.
About ten minutes later, the door creaked open again, and my breath caught in my throat as a tall figure entered the room.
My eyes widened in shock as I took in the sight of the tall, tanned and gorgeous man in front of me, who had an aura of rugged masculinity that fit perfectly with his casual attire.
A sense of disbelief washed over me as I struggled to reconcile this unexpected figure with the image of the wealthy master I had anticipated.
As he moved closer, our eyes met, and a jolt of recognition shot through me like an electric current.
"Mate," the word slipped out from both of us simultaneously, a reverberating echo that indicated that we were both in shock.
My heart pounded in my chest as I stared at the man in front of me, his features etched with a mix of amusement and surprise. The realization that this stranger was suddenly my mate, despite how the shattered bond with Elijah was still fresh in my memory, sent a shockwave of confusion rippling through me.
I struggled to make sense of the chaos of emotions that threatened to overwhelm me. How could this man, this stranger, be my mate when, just yesterday, my world had crumbled under Elijah's rejection?
The craziness of the situation left me reeling, my mind grappling with the impossible truth.
Looking up at him, I saw the gleam of amusement on his strikingly beautiful face, a knowing smile playing at the corners of his lips. Breaking the heavy silence between us, he spoke, his voice a rumbling sound that resonated through the room.
"I'm glad to see you're finally awake, my dear. You've been asleep for quite some time, and I was beginning to worry that you might never wake up," he remarked, staring back at me with an intense gaze.
I stared at him with a confused look on my face, still struggling to understand how and why Myra had suddenly recognized this man as our mate.
"Who are you? And what do you mean by saying I've been asleep for a long time?" I asked, my voice tinged with uncertainty.
Amusement danced in his eyes as he regarded me with a knowing gaze. "You, my dear mate, have been unconscious for nearly over six months now," he explained, his tone gentle yet tinged with a touch of wry humor.
I was taken aback, unable to believe how long I had been in an unconscious state, but more importantly, I was curious. Curious to know who the man in front of me was.
"You still haven't told me who you are," I pointed out, realizing that he had not answered my question earlier.
A small smile tugged at Xavier's lips, his gaze still fixated on mine. "My apologies, dear. My name's Xavier Montez and I am the Alpha of the Black Shadow Pack," he introduced himself, and my eyes widened in shock on realizing that he had just mentioned that he was the Alpha of my pack.
