Chapter 2

"Under the full moon and before the pack, I, Damian Sandiego, reject you, Laura Steven, as a mate," he declared. Even though I wasn't surprised by the outcome, I was hurt. It was like my heart was breaking into pieces. The pain was indescribable. I had always known and anticipated that this day would come. Damian doesn't love me and has always tried to make things hard for me. He had been trying to find ways to make me look bad so he could put me out and choose another mate. The Alpha cannot easily reject his fate, or else there was a good reason. He must have lost his patience so much that he didn't even mind setting a bad example and rejecting in front of the whole pack. My heart was shattered, I was bleeding inside, I couldn't even speak; pain filled up my soul. Just like other girls in the pack, I had been fancying the alpha and always saw him as the perfect mate. So, when the fated mate bond was created four months ago after my coming of years party, I was so happy and elated, I became the envy of many girls in the pack, and people started respecting me. At first, it was nothing much; the alpha seemed to go along with things, and he actually showed him love. I was so moved that I fell so deeply in love with him. We became happy together, but that's until she came into the picture. "You can't do this to me, Damian," I cried. "I have already done it," he replied. "We are supposed to be married today, Damian," I reminded him. "Oh, so you know, and you still have the nerve to come late," he retorted, causing me to be speechless. The truth is that the wedding will only start after celebrating the full moon, as per custom. It was true that I slept off due to stress and overthinking, yet there was never a law that stated that everyone must appear at the main hall before the new moon. As for the wedding, that's only after the moon makes an entrance and the rituals are completed. "Is that... Seriously your excuse?" My voice was breaking down, and I was almost winning now. My head dropped low as tears flowed like a broken dam. A girl in very short revealing clothing with a sexy and curvaceous body walked in. Damian's eyes lit up when he saw her, and I could see the affection in his eyes as he looked at her. That was the same way that he used to look at me before she came. It was her presence that ruined everything, and Damian's love for me had turned to hate. I raised my head defiantly, looking at him straight in the eye. "I, Laura Stevenson, reject you, Damian Kloss, as my mate!" I declared in a loud voice. Everyone inside the hall appeared shocked by my words. "What audacity!" Christina shouted. Even the girl in short clothes appeared shocked. "Preposterous!" The guardian wolf shouted and stood up. The Alpha looked at me coldly before saying, "Let her be; we should continue the festival." The mood in the hall lightened a little. Without any other words, I ran out of the hall, not caring if I would offend him or not. I ran straight to my quarters and headed straight for my room. I lay on the bed curled up as my tears filled the pink blanket that I clutched tightly while pouring my heart out. The weather changed, and it started raining. I cried as I reminisced. Her name was Arla, and she was found by the alpha during a hunt. She was wounded and weak when the alpha brought her home. At that time, I was already Damian's fiancé, and we were very good. I could tell that he was already developing huge feelings for me. But with the arrival of Arla, everything changed. He started acting like he was put in a spell. He would always be in her room, and when I confronted him. He claimed that she was too weak and would only allow him to come close to her. Even when she becomes healthy again, he still spends most of his time with her till I can't keep quiet about it anymore. I noticed that the girl wasn't as innocent as she appeared to be. She would only wear short revealing dresses and will purposely act intimate with Damian, even in front of me. When I confronted them, she started crying and saying that I always hated her and even accused me of threatening her. Damian was angry and scolded me angrily. He was very angry with me and started hating me; he would find reasons to berate and punish me. He wouldn't even look at me and always ignored me. That was before I left for school. This time around, I returned because today was supposed to be the day we would mate or get married in human words. Alas, I was already too late. I buried my head in my bed while reminiscing about all this. Someone knocked loudly from the outside. I ignored it, but the knock persisted, just as I was about to ask for whomever that was knocking to go away. The door opened, and Christina walked in. She has a sneer on her face and seems to be enjoying my pains. Christina had always been a great nemesis of hers. She always likes to pick on me and put me down, both in the pack and in school. She wasn't happy with the fact that he would be together with her brother and had been a strong supporter of Arla. From the looks she had on her face, I knew she was here to mock me. "How dare you enter my room without my permission?" I glared angrily at her. She held her mouth while trying to stifle her smile. "Poor Laura, who knew that you would end up like this, imagine how you cried and looked like a starved dog. Is this still the proud goddess that was telling me of this morning? I told you that you were never going to end up with my brother.
