Chapter 4

Lyla let out a long sigh of relief as the meeting finally came to an end. She leaned back in her chair and gently stretched her neck, easing the tension that had built up during the hours-long conference. Just then, a soft knock sounded at the door. "Come in." Lyla rose from her chair and walked over to the sofa, taking a seat with an air of calm authority. The door opened, and Anita Gilbert walked in carrying a thick folder. "We've gathered all the information on Evelyn," Anita said as she sat down opposite Lyla. "Should we publish everything?" Lyla's fingers tapped lightly against the armrest. "Hmm..." A faint smile appeared on her lips. "Not yet." Anita raised an eyebrow. "Not yet?" Lyla's smile deepened. "Wasn't Evelyn's greatest goal to marry Kane?" Anita immediately understood where she was going. Lyla leaned back leisurely. "Then let's help them get married." Her smile became even more pronounced. "Let them have the wedding they've always dreamed of." Anita stared at her for a moment before understanding the meaning behind her words. Lyla wasn't trying to stop the wedding. She wanted it to happen. Because the more extravagant the wedding, the harder Evelyn would fall when the truth finally came out. "They should experience the shame of being exposed after making such a grand spectacle of their marriage," Lyla added coldly. She paused before giving her next instruction. "Announce my position as the CEO of Foodie Goodies." Anita's eyes widened. "Foodie Goodies?" Foodie Goodies was one of the most popular food and snack production companies in the country. Despite being established only a year ago, it had already climbed to the number-one position in the national market. Meanwhile, Miller Corporation had fallen to fourth place. The Miller family had been involved in food production for decades, relying heavily on its established reputation and connections. Yet Lyla's one-year-old company had already surpassed them. In fact, the Miller family had approached Foodie Goodies several months earlier, hoping to establish a cooperation between the two companies. Their proposal had been rejected. Anita still couldn't understand Lyla's decision. "But what about L&K?" she asked, clearly confused. "Why would you reveal yourself as the CEO of Foodie Goodies when L&K is already so powerful?" Lyla's expression remained calm. "L&K is far beyond the status of the Miller and Kim families." She picked up her wineglass and took a slow sip. "If they discover who is really behind Foodie Goodies and L&K at the same time, they'll become cautious." Her lips curved upward. "They say it's easier to deal with your enemies when you keep them close and within your reach." Anita nodded slowly. She understood. The true strength of L&K was far beyond what either the Miller or Kim families could imagine. Lyla had deliberately kept her identity hidden for three years. Now, she was ready to reveal only one piece of her power. Not everything. Just enough to make them curious. Just enough to make them uncomfortable. "Alright," Anita said, standing up. "It's time to prepare for the party." She opened her tablet and began briefing Lyla on the details of the evening's engagement celebration, including the guest list, media presence, venue arrangements, and what Lyla could expect. Lyla listened quietly. Afterward, she took another slow sip of her wine before placing the glass down. She picked up her handbag and stood. "Let's go." As she walked toward the door, a faint smile lingered on her lips. Tonight wasn't just an engagement party. It was the beginning of the show. And Lyla intended to enjoy every second of it.
