Chapter 3

Lyla tossed and turned restlessly in bed, irritation growing as her phone continued to ring.

Who could possibly be calling her before her alarm?

With a frustrated sigh, she reached for her phone and answered.

"Boss, seriously?" Anita Gilbert's annoyed voice came through the speaker. "It's already a quarter past nine!"

"Huh?"

Lyla immediately sat upright.

Her eyes darted toward the wall clock.

9:15 a.m.

Her expression changed instantly.

"s**t!"

She threw the covers aside and rushed into the bathroom.

She had a conference meeting scheduled for ten o'clock with executives from several overseas branches of L&K Corporation. As the company's CEO, she couldn't afford to be late.

Over the past three years, L&K Corporation had risen rapidly through the business world. It was now ranked third among the top companies in the country and fifth internationally.

Lyla had worked tirelessly to build the company into what it was today.

And today was particularly busy.

Aside from the morning conference, she had several meetings with senior executives and another important appointment at noon.

Twenty minutes later, Lyla stood before the mirror.

She applied a light layer of makeup, finishing with nude lipstick. Her black shirt complemented her delicate features, giving her an elegant yet intimidating appearance.

She glanced at herself one last time before grabbing her handbag.

Three years had changed her.

The timid woman who once lowered her head before the Miller family was nowhere to be found.

"Good morning, ma'am."

"Morning, James."

Lyla climbed into the car and immediately opened WeChat.

The moment the headlines loaded, her eyes narrowed.

Lyla stared at the headlines without expression.

The two stood together, smiling brightly for the cameras.

Lyla's lips curved into a faint, mocking smile.

She had heard that Evelyn had suffered a miscarriage after she left the party that night.

Several News blogs posted it, claiming Lyla had being the reason for her miscarriage.

Different rumors and scandals were posted online with the intention of ruining her reputation.

But when Lyla investigated the matter herself, she discovered something far more interesting.

Evelyn had never been pregnant.

The pregnancy had been completely fabricated.

And so had the miscarriage.

She had planned to pin the miscarriage on her knowing Lyla might not be able to control her reactions and emotions.

Unable to proceed with her,since Lyla had left without fighting.

She rushed after Lyla claiming she wanted apologizing then she fell and miscarried.

Evelyn had faked everything.

Lyla leaned back against the seat, her eyes glinting with amusement.

For three years, she had remained silent.

She had watched from a distance as the people who had betrayed and humiliated her continued living as though nothing had happened.

But tonight...

She was finally going to make her appearance.

Lyla's smile deepened.

"I wonder how you'll enjoy the show tonight."

Tonight was Kane and Evelyn's engagement party.

And for the first time in three years...

Lyla was looking forward to seeing her ex-husband again.

She wanted to see Evelyn's and Mary reactions.

They had paid different reporters to paints ridiculous narratives about her.
