Fifteen It was a long night. Once Sylvie was medicated, she told the interrogators—not me—that she had been following Andy’s—God’s—orders for about a year. He believed everyone who had been in the woods the night of in Amanda’s murder should be punished, just as he had been. The best way to punish us was to hurt our children. He had wanted Sylvie to take her children out to the place where he killed Amanda, but she changed her mind and set them loose in the lava beds—or they escaped while she was trying to kill them.
