[Chapter {2}]

I woke up to the rays of the sun that were coming in through my window. Even though I was basically immune to the effects of the sun, being slapped in the face by that s**t still hurts. Toss in the fact that I'm not a morning person, and you've got Mr grumpy and annoyed first thing in the morning. I reached around to grab my phone, squinting as I checked the time. The digits 6:30am flashed in my face, and I fought back an eye roll. I have to admit my mom was right about one thing. I did feel refreshed, but not calm in any way. But I guess it's to be expected, this is the first time I will be attending a school with humans. I can only hope my day goes well. I took a hot shower to make me feel more human and less dead. I styled my hair as best as i could, opting for the messy, 'I woke up this way' look. It worked since my white hair was naturally messy. Then I picked out black ripped skinny jeans, a white long-sleeved tee and a black shirt with the buttons undone. I pulled the sleeve of my long-sleeved shirt past my wrist, and paired my outfit with my black ankle boots. I looked at my reflection in the mirror and I concluded that I looked as good as any white-haired skinny vampire could. Scouting around for my black school bag, which I eventually spotted and stuffed with everything I needed, I finally made my way downstairs. "Good morning Mom." "Morning honey," she replied from where she was working. I went to the fridge and took out a container of blood. Before you judge, it wasn't human blood. My mom and I were part of the newer generation of vampires who only consumed the blood of animals. Human blood was only necessary till the age of two after your immune system was a bit developed and your vitality somewhat solid. "Callum, do you want to take my car? It'll help you blend in more." "Nah, I'll run. I'm nervous anyway, so it'll help clear my mind." I wasn't lying, that was the exact reason I rejected the idea. No matter what you existed as in this world, one thing we all had in common was anxiety, especially about starting something new. "There's nothing to be afraid of Callum, now go in there and make mama proud or, as I said earlier, I'll whoop your butt." "Whatever you say mom, bye." "Bye honey. Always remember, you're stronger than you think you are, OK," she said through our vampire mind link. I let her words skid over to me but refused to genuinely acknowledge that there was truth in them. She was my mom, of course she'd say something like that to boost my confidence. The school was a thirty-minute walk for humans, so it would take me about five minutes. I made sure no one was in the vicinity, which was highly unlikely since we practically lived in the middle of nowhere, before I sped off to school. Once the school came into view, I searched for a place that was fairly hidden. Running past some unsuspecting girl who yelped because of the wind I had brought with me, I finally came to a stop behind a large tree. Well, that was refreshing, I thought, as I stretched my slightly cramped limbs. From my view underneath the large tree, I was able to spot the entrance of the school, which currently had students trudging in and out of it. After psyching myself up, I finally started on my way towards the entrance of the building. Entering the rowdy hallways filled with students who'd already known themselves for quite a while chatting nonstop, my mood plummeted a bit. I had told my mom it'd be hard transferring to a new school in my final year of high school, but she insisted that I'd be fine. I wasn't feeling very fine at the moment. With a deep breath, I navigated my way through the halls using the map I had been given prior to my resumption. I got a few curious glances as I walked in my destined direction. It was probably because they couldn't recognize my face. Their gazes made me feel a tad bit uncomfortable, so I slightly lowered my head and continued walking in the direction I hoped was the principal's office. I had a keen sense of direction since I was good with scents, but maps were a whole different story. After being handed my schedule, I started to search for my locker. It was in the seniors section, which was the topmost floor of the large three-storey building. Locker 335 I whispered quietly as I searched for my locker. I smiled a triumphant smile after being able to locate it. Unlocking it, I put the things I didn't want to log around whilst also taking out my history textbooks that I'd been provided with, for my first period. Vampires are good with history, so hopefully this class won't be too bad. I looked down at the map I was given as I tried to locate my classroom. I was so engrossed in reading the map that I did not see the person coming towards my direction until it was too late, only looking up in time to see myself crash into someone and fall hard on my butt. "Watch where you're going," a deep voice pretty much growled at me whilst I tried to not to outwardly scowl at how much pain my butt was in. When the wave of pain passed a little, I finally looked up at the human with such raw strength it was enough to have me on my ass, despite being a vampire, albeit not a very muscle-riddled one. The human in front of me seemed to be about 6ft tall, lean but clearly muscular, with nice dirty blond hair and peculiar hazel eyes. Hazel eyes that were currently staring at me in contempt. The scowl I had been holding back finally broke free. What was his problem? It's not like he's the one with a bruised butt or maybe even a broken tail bone. "Nate, be nice," a voice said, causing me to shift my gaze to the pretty blond girl I hadn't noticed earlier. "Well, he should f*****g watch where he's going," he mumbled, rolling his eyes at the pretty blonde. I rolled my eyes at his condensing tone but mumbled an apology anyway, since I didn't want the situation to escalate. Getting up, I dusted my behind and bent down to pick up my map and history textbook. "Nate, give the guy a break. It's not like you were aware of your surroundings either, otherwise you would have seen him coming." These words were spoken by a brown-haired guy with matching brown eyes, only a shade darker than his hair. He was good-looking, their whole motley crew was, and once again I realized I'd rather this situation get resolved quickly, so we could go our separate ways. I wasn't trying to mess with the wrong people on my first day of school. I tried to offer another apology but was interrupted by the brown-haired guy. "I haven't seen you around before, are you new?" he asked, giving me a once over, curiosity in his dark eyes. I responded with a nod, not sure of what else to say. "Cool, I'm Matt," he introduced, stretching out his hand for me to take. "Callum," I replied with a curt nod. "Why are you so pale?" a voice asked, quite bluntly might I add. It was then I noticed the boy who had been entirely silent up until now. I hadn't even felt his presence, and it was kind of off-putting for a vampire like me. He had black hair that was cut short and styled in a quiff and very cold blue eyes. "I don't like the sun," I responded flatly, ignoring his icy stare. There was an awkward silence around us which was broken when Matt cleared before speaking, "Well, it was nice meeting you Callum, but we have to go to class now." "Watch where you're going next time, Callum," a voice hissed in my ear and I looked behind me to see Nate already turning the corner, his hands in the pockets of his pants. He was already long gone, but for some reason his aura didn't leave and his voice saying my name was on replay in my head. I shook my head to clear my thoughts before going back to the task at hand, finding my history class. I would've asked Nate's crew for help if he was acting like the world was coming to an end over us simply bumping into each other. When I finally got to my class, the lecture had already begun, so I was just asked to take my seat. That was one good thing that came out of my unfortunate encounter, I guess. I wasn't looking forward to the new student introduction and whatnot. "You're really pretty," a voice beside me suddenly whispered as I arranged my stationery. I was slightly startled but didn't let it show as I looked over at the girl sitting beside me. She had brown hair and teal-colored eyes and, if anything, she was the really pretty one. "Thanks?" I responded, albeit unsurely, to her earlier compliment. "Want to sit with me during lunch," she asked, blinking her eyes at me. I was taken aback by her asking me that out of the blue, seeing as we had just met, but decided to go along with it. "Sure." It wouldn't hurt to make some friends. That way, I'd be less susceptible to bullying. By the time lunch rolled by, I had already known a lot more about Eliza than I did most of my relatives. She was a big talker, and it was intriguing, to say the least. As Eliza and I walked into the cafeteria towards the table she said her friends were seated at, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was being watched. It was a stare that sent shivers down my spine as I tried my very best not to locate its source.
