My Date Stood Up

Chapter 2 Thirty minutes had passed, and Adrian had waited for Ava with patience not known to the bosom of his watch. The ice started to melt, while the bucket sweated on the outside. The air condition, and air conditioner both filled the room, as sweet as vanilla, and fields of tulips at sunrise covered in dewdrops. Adrian, being the calm subtle alpha-like guy that he was, sat there patiently with his legs crossed while he stretched his arms outwards resting on the plushness of the thick, soft leather couch that circled the room; his head held back staring into the ceiling, awaiting Ava’s arrival. The door opens, and it was a sight matching his childhood movie star crush’s most iconic romantic scene entrance. It was Ava, she had finally erased that quiet hidden anxiety that was plaguing Adrian’s slight touch of submissiveness that he always tried ever so often to hide. “Where should I be seated?” Ava calmly asked. “The choice is yours” Adrian softly uttered. Stunned, star struck, and his ego obstructed by her possessive beauty, and charm. Her elegance once more took him with a force he was still deeply hiding the curiosity of himself trying to figure out. After taking a glance at the bottle of champagne that Adrian had ordered, the champagne glasses mouth’s covered and untouched.. Ava decided to sit right next to him; as close to him as touching and exchanging body temperatures through garment contact. She looked at him, he looked back at her, both possessing an attraction not deemed fit for a night club ballroom connection. “uh” – “uh”, they both uttered, both preventing each other from finishing their statements. “You first”, they both said again in the same breath, as if they were both telepathically connected on a deep level of consciousness. They both smiled while Ava muffled a giggle. Lips sealed, Adrian stared, mapping the emotion of her eyes. “What brings a man of your caliber to this section of such a venue on a Tuesday night?” Asked Ava. “Did your date stand you up?” she added to ask, “you’re exactly right” Adrian responded, with a heightened look of curiosity in his expression, as if even his complexion had shifted to a lighter shade of black; like a chameleon camouflaging itself – sighting the scents of a nearby predator or prey. “I was supposed to meet a woman, in the diner” said Adrian. “Care for a drink?” he asked. “Why not?” Ava added. “Do you know how to open one of these?” Adrian asked Ava as she stared back at him with a look of “Do I look like the date that stood you up?” “Am I dressed in a high school uniform or something?” she carefully addressed him with a smile, “I work here” she also added. She placed her back beside her finally, adjusted her skin-tight dress, leaned over, and calmly retrieved the champagne bottle opener, lifted the bottle from the bucket before turning to Adrian and saying.. “This is my job, this is what I do, I’m a gangster. “ What do I look like?” she said with an excited persona, and a jovial facial expression. “Alright, let me see you do your thing, Mrs. “pro-fe-ssion-al”. It was barely 60 seconds and they already heard a faint “POPP” the bottle of Dom Pérignon was open, with not a single spill in sight. “Care for some champagne, stranger?” said Ava with a daring look of confidence, and the brightest smile Adrian had seen on a woman he interacted with in the longest months. “Well of course.. shall we?” he responded. Ava began to remove the covers from the champagne glasses. Adrian, as soon as Ava started to pick up the champagne bottle to begin pouring their drink, stared her down in fascination and awe of utter attraction… “Let me” he said. He then reached over and retrieved the bottle from her hand, slightly tilting his head to the side in the opposite direction of hers, as if he was thinking thoughts so heavy, and needed extra strength just to hold his head in place. “soft, faint sounds of champagne pouring, and champagne bubbles engulfing the room.” Room 21 was now engulfed – with sparkles and the essence of good times, ignited by pure happiness and curiosity, as if… As if time had stopped, and life was redefined within one short moment of glee. “Cheers?” Surprisingly Adrian was first to ask… “To?” Responded Ava… After a pause of a few seconds, and a look of admiration.. He said “to the most beautiful woman that I have ever laid my mind and eyes on.” Ava smiled, and paused… Thinking that she was most prepared to give him a wild, exotic lap dance. She hesitated and then added, “You’re much of a sweet talker, aren’t you?” “A woman must be told the truths of a man’s thoughts towards her” said Adrian, while he stared deeply into her pain-lit eyes. Ava’s eyes dimmed, reopened… slowly, she began raising her glass.
