Pregnant

"She is pregnant." I opened my eyes and immediately turned toward the source of the voice. There stood Ameera, Jack, and the doctor, all exchanging glances. I vaguely heard the first words the doctor said to them, almost making my heart race wildly. "Pregnant? Impossible, doctor! This must be the effect of the juice Ameera made!" I protested, rejecting the information the doctor provided. All eyes turned toward me, including Jack, who looked shocked as he clenched his fists. I knew he was angry, not at me but at Ameera. His eyes couldn’t lie. "Yes, the effect of the abortion drug that was mixed into the juice." Ameera bowed her head in shame as the doctor explained everything in front of me and Jack. Deep inside, I felt they were satisfied seeing her guilty expression, but I couldn't be satisfied with just Ameera's expression. A suspicion arose that Ameera didn't want me to carry Jack's child. "That’s why you asked me if I had relations with Jack after the wedding. You must have been afraid that I was really pregnant after being with Jack, so you mixed an abortion drug into your homemade juice. Your plan is obvious!" Ameera denied my accusation in shock. But I knew it was the truth. She kept shaking her head, trying to convince Jack that this incident was unintentional. But who would believe that an abortion drug could just accidentally get into the juice? "Jack, I also don’t know why there was an abortion drug in the juice I made. I really didn’t mean to kill your baby. I—" "Enough, Ameera! I don’t need your explanations anymore. Please don’t do something foolish like this again, or I’ll send you back to your parents’ house." Ameera was silent, her eyes welling up with tears. She felt disappointed with Jack, so she decided to go home alone. Now, it was just Jack and me. We exchanged glances, feeling awkward. I didn't know why my emotions suddenly vanished, replaced with confusion. "Forgive Ameera," Jack said with a heavy voice. I looked down, feeling even more awkward. Jack's eyes always radiated his sincerity. Although there was sometimes a flash of anger there, if you looked closer, he was sad. "I—" Jack took my hand and gently kissed the back of it. A small smile appeared on his handsome face. I was stunned, unaware that Jack had already placed a kiss on my forehead. "Thank you for your efforts. I love you." After finishing the check-up and receiving the vitamins, Jack took me to a fancy restaurant, claiming that my stomach had been growling the whole way. We spent the evening together in a very romantic way. I had never received such good treatment from anyone since my mother passed away. The sweet words and gentle touches that always made me swoon, I found them in Jack. For some reason, the passionate feelings in my heart slowly turned into comfort. Even though I knew Jack was being kind to me only because I was pregnant, I enjoyed every moment with him. After my stomach was filled with delicious food, we decided to go home. The doctor said I shouldn't get too tired for the sake of the baby's health. When we arrived home, Jack carried me inside while calling for several servants. "Siti, Yani, and Desi, come here!" The three servants arrived in front of us. They were surprised to see Jack carrying me. Their eyes exchanged glances, thinking about what was going to happen. "From now on, follow all of Miranda's orders. Don’t let her do any heavy work, and every week, bring in the best chef in the city to cook healthy meals." The three servants nodded and quickly moved to prepare for the arrival of the new chef. However, Siti, as the oldest servant, seemed worried and confused. A few hours earlier, she had heard Ameera crying in her room and attempting suicide. "Excuse me for being presumptuous, sir, but what’s happening? Didn’t you come home with Mrs. Ameera?" Jack had already guessed that Siti would ask such a question. A servant as loyal to Ameera as she was, of course, would find Jack's behavior toward Ameera strange. "Miranda is pregnant, so we spent time together. That's why Ameera went home first." Seeing Jack’s stern face, Siti abandoned her intention to ask further and chose to carry out Jack’s orders. I felt Jack carrying me to my room. He didn’t let my feet touch the floor until I was on the bed. In this position, I could see Jack's face up close; he was handsome and more than that. After laying me on the bed, he sat beside me, holding my hand tightly. There was something in his eyes that made my heart race. "How are you feeling now?" he asked, his voice softer than usual. Oh God, Jack really became the man of my dreams today. "Feeling? I’m okay," I replied, unsure of how to respond. Just thinking about Jack made my face flush. Jack took a deep breath, as if he wanted to say something heavy. I focused on his face to encourage him to tell me. "I know this relationship started the wrong way, but I don’t want it to end the wrong way. I promise to be a good husband and father to our baby." I was speechless. His words touched me, especially as his fingers continued to hold mine tightly. It felt like I could fly to the seventh heaven at that moment. I wondered if the man in front of me was really Jack? The man who married me just to continue his lineage? Seeing the doubt on my face, Jack tried to reassure me. "I don’t want there to be any lies or misunderstandings between us. After what happened earlier, I need to be more attentive to you. I didn’t expect Ameera would try to harm you or our baby. I don’t want you to feel unsafe in this house." All this time, I had felt oppressed and trapped living with Jack. Every day felt like a punishment. But hearing Jack speak like this made me think there was hope that my life would get better. "Jack, are you really sincere in saying this?" My voice trembled. I felt very happy with what Jack was doing now. And I didn’t want anything bad to happen. He looked at me with eyes full of sincerity. "I’m sincere with you, darling. I know I haven’t been a good husband. But I will change for you and our future baby." I trust you, Jack. I’ll throw away all the negative thoughts I had about you. And now, I’ll enjoy every day carrying your child. "Trust me, love." Jack stood up, straightening my blanket. He gave me a sweet smile before finally leaving. I sat silently, processing everything Jack had said and confirming its truth. The confusing feelings in my heart made me believe Jack’s words. However, there was still a small space of worry, especially about Ameera.
