“Is she still a virgin?” I hadn’t seen the face of the man who bought me, and my ears had just caught a sacred phrase that almost made me feel even more disgusted at the thought of him. “Of course! Our daughter is well-protected!” My stepmother quickly answered, pulling my hand to sit in the living room. All eyes were on me, scrutinizing me from head to toe without blinking. “She’s very beautiful!” My father’s compliment sounded like trash in my ears. He graciously invited me to sit beside the man who bought me, then smiled with satisfaction. “Good merchandise, can the selling price go up from the agreement?” I glared sharply at my father; without any hesitation, he referred to me as merchandise in front of everyone. “Provide proof that she is still a virgin.” I was shocked to hear that statement. I glanced at the man and made a disgusted face, appalled by him. I was sure that all he thought about was a woman’s body. “You can pay and marry her after this. Try it; if she isn’t a virgin, you can return her to us,” my stepmother replied confidently. I truly felt worthless. In my silence, there was a swelling fear. The man with a cold stare, a large body, and no smile could easily kill me in one night. And I didn’t want to spend the rest of my life with him. I suddenly burst into tears in the middle of their conversation. Hearing my cries, my father gripped my arm as a signal for me to stop crying. This only deepened my hurt, and I cried even louder. The people in the living room stopped talking and started focusing on me. At this moment, I wanted to speak out in front of everyone that I rejected this transaction. “I don’t want to be sold and married to a man like him!” I stood up, looking at my father with courage. “I can earn more money than usual, Father. I promise to work for the rest of my life as long as I don’t have to marry that man!” THUD! As soon as I finished my sentence, one of the bodyguards placed three suitcases filled with money on the table in the middle of the room. This made my words feel like they were gone with the wind. “One billion enough?” said the man who bought my body. Without considering my words, my father immediately took the three suitcases and nodded. He looked so happy with an amount of money he had never seen before. “Enough! This is more than enough, sir. Hey Miranda, even if you worked your entire life, you wouldn’t be able to earn a billion. Just marry the man; your life will be better than with us.” I was at a loss for words. Before long, the bodyguards embraced me and then took me out of the house. I was truly treated like an object. My feelings and consent were not considered at all. I was taken in a luxurious car I had never seen before. Inside the car, for some reason, I felt so sleepy that I eventually fell sound asleep during the journey. I woke up when the car stopped. My ears were immediately greeted by the noise of people around me. The bodyguards led me out of the car, and my eyes were met with a grand gate adorned with a red carpet. I was amazed at the beautiful decoration of the house. The scent of flowers could be smelled from hundreds of meters away, and the decorations were made of exquisite jewels. “Prepare yourself; we’re getting married today.” A sudden wedding? I hadn’t even thought about marriage after the transaction. “You should know, sir, that I’m not a virgin. My father and mother lied, so you have to return me to them,” I said bluntly. I was actually lying, but I hoped this lie would save my life. “Is that so? Then I don’t need to tell you how to make a baby, right?” I fell silent, hearing the man’s response. With no smile and a flat expression, he walked into the luxurious building they called a house. This made me even more convinced there was something behind this. Female servants took my hand. They guided me into the luxurious building. Inside, there were already many guests, whom I was sure were from wealthy families. They all smiled broadly at me as I walked on their carpet, including the family of the man who had been waiting earlier. The wedding took place. Everything went smoothly until it was over. Everyone seemed happy except for me. After trying to stay calm and follow through with the forced wedding, I started feeling exhausted. Many guests came, and I had to behave nicely because of the stern look from the man who had just married me. “It’s already evening; let the extended family welcome the guests. Come with me now.” The man pulled my hand down from the altar. He hurried as if wanting to do something. My mind immediately went to adult things people do after just getting married. “Where are we going?” I asked to be sure. “To my room,” he replied confidently. My suspicion grew stronger. I wasn’t ready for that at all. I didn’t even know how to do it; how should I act later? It would be so embarrassing. “Wait a minute, Jack, where are you going?” An old man stopped our steps. Seeing his face that resembled Jack—the man who married me—I was sure he was Jack’s father. “To the room, this creature is already tired,” Jack replied shortly. Creature? Jack called the woman he married a creature? I didn’t expect to be given such a horrible nickname. “What are you saying? She’s your wife now. However, she will fulfill the desires of the Wilshere family more than that Ameera.” Hearing the name Ameera, Jack’s expression changed. It seemed he didn’t like the woman named Ameera being belittled. But on the other hand, Jack’s father looked very pleased to say it. My bad feeling about Jack and his family grew stronger. “Who is Ameera?” I started wondering about that woman, but Jack just remained silent and pulled my hand out of the event room. His cold attitude became more terrifying after Ameera’s name was disparaged. I was sure that woman had a significant influence on Jack. When we arrived in the room, Jack handed me a document. He asked me to sign it immediately. “Sign here!” he ordered. I skimmed through the contract and found the phrase "one-year marriage contract." My eyes widened in shock with hundreds of questions in my head. “One-year marriage?” I asked for confirmation. Jack nodded. Shortly after, a beautiful woman entered our room without permission and hugged Jack from behind. She acted so intimately as if she was Jack’s lover. “Did you give her the papers, darling?” Darling? I was even more confused about the situation I was in. “Who is she?” I asked. It wasn’t Jack who answered my question; instead, the woman approached and shook my hand as a form of introduction. “I’m Ameera Lutfia, Jack’s most beloved wife.” I looked at Jack; he seemed to understand the meaning of my gaze. “You are the second wife. In the contract, it’s stated that we’re only married for one year.” I chuckled softly. Reading the contract in my hand until I heard a sentence that shocked me even more. “And you must give me a child before our marriage contract ends.”
