The cool wind blew against my skin as Leo and I sat on the Estate rooftop. I was in a wheelchair and Leo was standing behind me protectively. “You can go sit on the ledge. You don’t have to stay standing.” I muttered weakly. It had been a week since our mission and since I almost died.
“No way, I am never going to be further than one feet away from you,” Leo squeezed my shoulders as he said that. I placed my hand on his.
“You know you were within a foot of me when I was shot,” I said just to bother him. Leo grimaced.
“Don’t tease me, Kira. I thought I was going to lose you forever. I don’t think you understand how scared I was.”
“Leo, I’m alive and I’m here. That is all that matters.” I took Leo’s hand and brushed my lips against it. “I’m okay.”
Leo walked to the ledge and sat on it directly in front of me. “I can’t get used to your eyes.”
I had lost so much blood and had so much non-serum blood transfused into me that my eyes started to revert back to their original color. A chocolate brown but there was still a ring of gold that surrounded my pupil. “I don't know, I think they're pretty cool looking.”
“They are, it’s just weird.” Leo smiled and I grinned back.
“Well, it’s weird that I'm still alive.” I leaned back and looked up at the grey sky. Leo sighed.
“It’s a miracle. I don’t think you will ever understand how scared I was.” Leo stood up and grabbed my hand. I glanced at him and he was staring at me with such love that it made my stomach flip. It’s funny how he still has that effect on me.
“I want to go to physical therapy. Want to take me there now?” I started to wheel myself backward. Leo jumped up and grabbed the back of my wheelchair.
“It’s only been a week, you're going to break open your stitches if you go to physical therapy now,” Leo argued.
“I’ll be careful! I just need to get out of this chair as soon as possible.” I grumbled. Leo laughed.
“Wow, you're not even superhuman anymore-”
I interrupted him, “Yes I am, I still have the serum in my system it's just not as concentrated.”
“Fine, you're not as much as a superhuman anymore but your mindset hasn’t changed one bit.”
“Do you ever wonder that maybe it wasn't just the serum that made me special but my mindset?”
“Nah, it was just the serum.” Leo teased and we laughed as we made our way downstairs to physical therapy.
