The Descent

Prologue The underground tunnels pulse with an unnatural energy, the very air humming with something ancient and alive. Amelia and Ethan press forward, guided by the flickering torchlight, their footsteps echoing against the damp stone walls. The whispers in the dark grow louder. They are not alone. Chapter 1: The Revelation Ethan and Amelia stumble upon a vast underground chamber, its walls etched with symbols identical to those in Lucian’s sacred texts. At its center stands an altar, blackened with age and something more sinister. Scattered around it are relics—bones, trinkets, and remnants of those who came before them. Amelia shudders. “This isn’t just a cult,” she whispers. “This is a bloodline.” As Ethan flips through a brittle manuscript on the altar, a horrifying realization grips him—The Eclipse is not just a symbol. It’s a harbinger of an ancient rite, one that requires not just faith but sacrifice. The chosen ones do not ascend. They are consumed. Chapter 2: The Hunt The distant sound of chanting grows louder. Amelia grabs Ethan’s hand. “We need to go. Now.” As they retrace their steps through the tunnels, torchlight flickers ahead. Lucian’s voice carries through the passage, laced with eerie calm. “You have seen the truth. You cannot turn away now.” Panic sets in. They take a different path, leading them to a hidden exit near the forest. But as they emerge into the moonlit night, figures in white robes are already waiting. They run. Chapter 3: The Betrayal An old wooden bridge stretches over a ravine ahead, their only path to safety. As they sprint across, a figure emerges from the trees—Marcus, Amelia’s missing brother. Amelia gasps. “Marcus? You’re alive?” He steps forward, his expression unreadable. “I never left.” Before they can react, the bridge collapses behind them, cutting off their escape. Marcus raises his hands, signaling to the cult members closing in. Amelia’s face contorts in anguish. “No… You were supposed to escape!” “I did,” he says. “I found the truth.” Chapter 4: The Descent Ethan and Amelia are dragged back to the commune, their resistance futile. The full moon hangs overhead, its light illuminating the sacred grounds. Lucian stands at the altar, arms raised. “Tonight,” he proclaims, “the Eclipse will claim its chosen.” As Amelia is forced to her knees, Ethan struggles against his captors, his mind racing. There has to be a way out. But as the chanting rises, he realizes one terrible truth: the Eclipse is coming, and they may not live to see the dawn. Cliffhanger A drum beats. The torches flare. The sky begins to darken. To be continued…
