CHAPTER 18 : TUNES OF THE HEART

Viveria woke up feeling like her head would explode, well, that's how it always is, after her nightmares.

It was the day of the mock test and she had woken up pretty early. Or rather it could be said that she had barely slept.

Taking out her phone from under the pillow, she saw 2 missed calls from Daniel.

Calling him back...

Viveria : Dan? Is everything okay?

Daniel : Are you okay?

Viveria : Yeah, I'm fine.

Daniel : Are you sure?

Viveria : Yes, Dan. I' m fine. Trust me. Are you ready for the mock test today? Are you done with the revisions?

Suddenly another male voice was heard.

Dew: Viveria! I'm gonna fail! Its like I don't remember s**t. What should I do? I'll die today! Remember me well!

Viveria : What is Dew doing at your place ?

Daniel ( giving a yawn) : Apparently, he forgot the stuff you taught him and crashed at my place at midnight, disturbing my sleep. We were studying till pretty late. I should have never given this asshole my house code. It's all because of you that he got to know my passcode in the first place.

Viveria ( giving a smile) : Come on! He is our friend Dan. I hope Dew passes. You guys better hurry up or else we will be late. I also need to go and get ready.

Daniel: Yeah. I also have to go. Bye Viveria.

Dew ( shouting at the top of his voice ) : Bye Vive! See you in a bit. Dan, dude, don't you have the special edition of this shampoo? You need to upgrade man! You are like an old monk! No wonder girl's don't like you!

As the call got disconnected, Viveria burst out laughing. She loved them both so much. However, they are going to graduate soon. She doesn't want things to change. They are her family and they will always be so.

At Walstrom High....

Huge crowds of student were gathered near different classrooms. Most of them had books and copies in their hands, others were just chatting away and some of the jocks looked too nervous!

As Viveria walked through the crowd to get to her classroom, she pushed through the crowd in order to reach to her assigned exam room. She apparently dashed into someone's shoulder.

 Viveria was about to apologize, when she saw it was Drake!

Drake ( giving Viveria a weird smile) : Hi! Be careful on your way. Not everybody you push will be a friendly face!

Viveria ( apologetically) : I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to dash into you.

As Viveria was about to walk away, Drake stood straight in front of her, blocking her way.

Drake ( seriously) : BTW, I heard you gave lessons to Xavier for the mock tests. It's so sweet to see you two love birds getting close to each other. It would be a good love story, don't you think?

Viveria ( taking a few steps back) : I'm just helping him for the mock tests. Also, whether we have any romance or not, it isn't any of your business. So if you could excuse me, I have an exam to give.

As Drake was still adamantly, standing in front of her way, Viveria tried to walk past him sideways, but it was of no use.

Drake approached Viveria and just as he was about to continue his blabbering, he saw Xavier standing in front of Viveria facing him head on.

Xavier ( pretty angrily) : Don't even think about it! She is not your friend but mine! And stop intimidating everyone around you. I thought you were grown up enough to not behave like a child.

Drake ( smirking at Xavier) : And here comes the hero! May the gods bless both of you to be a loving couple.

Xavier took Viveria's hand, pushing Drake, they walked pass through the crowded students reaching the exam room.

A pretty lost Viveria, let go of Xavier's hand and she looked at him questioningly.

Xavier ( looking wickedly ) : I know you didn't want my help back there but if you would have continued your talk with that asshole, you would be late. Let's go in.

Viveria : Wait, why are you going in with me?

Xavier : We are in the same exam hall, some people may even call it destiny you know?

Viveria couldn't believe her luck. But she was feeling very happy, the way Xavier had just walked with her through the crowds had been like a romantic movie.

As the bell rang loudly, Viveria realized , so much for romance! It's exam time.

The next few days passed and the mock tests got over, the g**g decided to go to Dew's fashion week competition. They would cheer for him and their school.

Viveria had also invited Xavier, now that he was a part of their friend circle. Everybody was ready and in Daniel's car, except Xavier, he always took his favorite Ferrari everywhere.

As they reached the venue, they were left speechless.

The Matilda University which was the host for Fashion Week, 2020; was a huge campus decorated flawlessly for the competition and the sheer structure of the building of the university was a sign of elegance and represented the upper class.

At Matilda University's Parking Lot....

As Viveria, Daniel and Jackie were waiting for Xavier in the parking lot. Jackie suddenly looked a bit anxious.

Jackie: Has Dew reached yet? He won't be too nervous without us right? I know he jokes around but it would be great if we could have met him once before the competition.

Viveria ( agreeing with Jackie) : Yeah, we will of course visit him. We can do one thing, you and Dan can go in. I'll wait for Xavier.

Daniel ( instantly) : No. I'm not leaving you here alone in the middle of a parking space. You also come with us, we will give Xavier the direction. He should have been here ages ago, anyways!

Viveria ( reluctantly) : It'll be fine Dan, I'm not a small child. Nothing will happen to me.

Daniel : I don't care. We will go in together.

Jackie : How about you guys wait and I go meet up with Dew?

Daniel : You sure? Will you be okay on your own?

Jackie : You kidding me? Of course.

Viveria : Okay. Meet you backstage. Be careful.

Jackie : I always am.

As Jackie went inside the building, Daniel and Viveria saw Xavier's car entering the parking lot.

Xavier got out of his Ferrari and saw Daniel and Viveria standing.

Xavier ( internally) : Wasn't Jackie also supposed to be with them? Anyways, its none of his business. He was the new member. Maybe they were waiting for Jackie.

As Xavier approached them he smiled at Viveria : Hey ! Whom are you guys waiting for?

Before Viveria could reply,

Daniel : For someone who has to enter like a prince with no sense of time. ( looking directly at Xavier)

Viveria ( trying to stop the bickering) : We were waiting for you. So let's go in. Dew must be nervous.

Xavier ( looking straight at Daniel) : I was late because Dew had told me to bring my power bank, just in case his camera looses its charge. I had to go back home and then come again. So, sorry to have kept you guys waiting.

Viveria felt like Xavier had really come a long way and she dare admit she was falling more deeply in love with the new version of Xavier.

Daniel: Whatever! Let's go in.

They entered inside the building, and saw massive swarms of students who had come from different schools. Lot's of teachers, participants and other staff along with many fashion icons had also gathered to witness the Fashion Week, 2020.

The whole university was beautifully decorated and the auditorium was looking splendid. 

As Xavier, Viveria and Daniel walked past the huge passage ways towards the greenroom, they could hear a guy shouting.

In the Green Room...

Dew ( angrily shouting): You have got to be kidding me! How can they suddenly change the order of stage time. It's so unfair! Like what do they think of themselves?

Rosie ( looking exhausted with Dew's childishness) : As if you can just go and fight? Stop creating a scene, you i***t!

Jackie ( pulling Dew by the collar and making him sit on the chair nearby) : Okay! That's enough! Don't get hyper, Calm down Dew! Just sit and take a deep breathe.

Viveria ( entering worriedly ) : What happened Dew? Is something wrong?

Dew ( hugging Viveria) : Thank God! you came. They changed the time slot of entering the stage and gave Hillstrom High the slot before us. We were supposed to go first. It is unfair!

Daniel ( pulling Dew out of Viveria's hug and looking him straight in the eye) : Well, get a grip will you? You are a participant and you will participate in a fair manner. So don't fret over it. Maybe they intentionally did it to make you get nervous and hyper. Just focus on your preparations.

Dew ( calming down) : You know what you guys are right! I have got this. Let the show begin!

Dew getting impulsive started to walk straight towards the stage, that is when Jackie pulled him back. 

What happened next was totally like a movie scene, Dew had lost his balance while turning around and Jackie unable to take the weight of a suddenly falling Dew, fell to the ground! Dew on top of her and the best part was their lips touched and it was a kiss! 

Accidentally yet beautifully.

Both Dew and Jackie immediately pulled back and Jackie pushed Dew off of her.

Viveria had a blushing yet knowing look on her face. Daniel was smirking and Xavier, well, he was busy staring at a blushing Viveria.

Jackie ( her face turning beet root red) : Umm, it was just an accident and why are you always falling on me?

Dew ( listening to the sudden weird question, unapologetically looked at Jackie) : Well, don't get all nervous. It definitely was an accident! And I'll try not to fall on you, Jacks.

An unspoken look passed between Dew and Jackie. Viveria was feeling so happy. Finally her ship was coming true!

Two of her best friends may end up together. What more good thing can happen?

Looking at Xavier she noticed the look which he had on his face. Xavier realizing Viveria looking at him, turned his face and looked the other way.

Daniel (breaking the weird silence) : So, all the best Dew! Go win it. We will be cheering for you!

Xavier ( looking at Dew) : Nail it, Dew! You got this!

Viveria ( looking super energetic and positive) : All the best Dee, I know you will win it. 

Jackie ( looking confidently) : Yeah, just go and do your thing.

Giving Jackie a smile and the others a thumbs up sign, Dew went towards the backstage.

Rosie ( looking super angry) : Yeah, go on totally ignore another person in the room! As if I care!

With her way of taunting Rosie had made it evident that she did care.

As Rosie started to follow Dew towards the stage, she was stopped by Viveria.

Viveria : All the best Rosie. May you guys bring the trophy.

Rosie completely ignoring Viveria walked past her with a shrug.

Jackie ( angrily standing beside Viveria) : That attention seeker! Let's go. The show is about to start.

As the event progressed, Jackie and Viveria had been chattering non stop about something which was noticed by Daniel and Xavier.

Viveria ( looking wickedly at Jackie) : So, is it going to be official? You and Dew?

Jackie ( looking shocked) : What? No! Vi, stop it. It's not a big deal. It was an accident.

Viveria ( reminding Jackie) : It was also a kiss.

Jackie ( looking unaffected) : Hardly a kiss Vi!

Viveria : So you want to kiss Dew?!

Jackie ( pinching Viveria's elbow) : Shut up!

Viveria knew that something was definitely going to happen between Jackie and Dew.

She felt happy, that at least, two of them will be together and good for each other. Jackie would keep Dew in check and Dew in return would help Jackie enjoy her life again and not constantly worrying about other things. 

They would be a perfect couple!

The competition got over, undoubtedly, Dew and Rosie had won. The trophy shining brightly, was proudly being flaunted by Dew.

As all of them came out into the parking lot, they saw Tony waiting with a bouquet of beautiful roses in his hand. Rosie rushed towards Tony and hugged him.

Rosie : You made it! I won! See.

(snatching the trophy from Dew's hands) 

Dew was about to fight back when Jackie stopped him with a look.

As Jackie stopped Dew, Dew stared at her.

Dew ( internally) : It wouldn't be so bad if I actually end up with her, will it? But then do I really deserve a girl like her?

Will I be able to be a good boyfriend?

Viveria ( happily looking at everyone) : So, where are we going to celebrate?

Dew : Like I had claimed it's my treat and it's going to be at The Memorial Palace. 

Jackie : Isn't it a bit too expensive?

Dew : Well, let's just say, it is not expensive for me! I have grown up in there. For me it's like my second home.

Everybody except Daniel and Viveria gave a look of shock. Dew had never actually declared that he was so rich! Also,

Dew rarely liked talking about his family or his properties.

Viveria ( looking a little nervous) : Are you sure? It won't bring you trouble right?

Dew ( happily putting a hand on Viveria's shoulder) : Nah! I'm the future owner! I have a right. Don't worry. I have got this. 

Dew happily looking at others : Let's go and party!

At Memorial Palace....

The group entered the 5 star hotel which was known for its beautiful infrastructure, it's great food and it's famous chandelier ball room. Everybody felt awed at the sheer brilliance of the interior designing and the expensive paintings.

Dew rarely flaunted his power but when he does there is no stopping him.

They entered the ballroom and saw that, on the sides of the room wonderful dishes of food were arranged with lots of hotel staff ready to serve, it was clear that the hotel was prepared for the celebrations. They were prepared to welcome their young master!

Viveria holding Jackie's hand : See, I am not being shallow, but just imagine Dew and you dancing here, madly in love! How great would it be?

Jackie ( looking pretty serious) : Well, I don't think it will ever be. I just realized how different I and Dew are. We are really no match for each other.

Jackie ( internally) : What was I even thinking? Me and Dew? He is the rich spoiled playboy son of a millionaire and me? Just an ordinary girl who needs to get a good job. My family is well off, definitely! But this is all way beyond my imagination! I guess, love is not meant for me. I have to be practical and start to maintain a distance from Dew. We are friends and we will be nothing more.

Viveria ( looking worriedly ) : Hey, Jovia! You alright?

Jackie coming out of her deep yet practical thoughts giving Viveria a nod and a smile.

As the party began, a lot of Walstrom High students started to dance, drink and enjoy the party.

Xavier went to the bar and ordered a lime soda for Viveria. He knew she doesn't drink alcohol so maybe she would like lime soda. Beside him Daniel ordered two cold drinks.

As both of them approached Viveria, they saw her happily doing 'cheers' with Dew with a glass of cold drink.

As the party was in full swing, suddenly the song, 'I Like Me Better - By Lauv' started to play.

Many people started to pair up together, Dew pulled Jackie on the dance floor and started dancing around her. Jackie though a little reserved, knew that it was Dew's day to be happy. As his friend she wouldn't let him down. Jackie also started grooving to the tunes.

Before Xavier had a chance to ask Viveria, Daniel had already pulled her and they started to dance casually. Xavier felt a sudden surge of jealousy and anger at his own reluctance towards approaching Viveria.

Xavier ( internally) : Why do I always behave like a fool when I'm around her? I also could have pulled her and danced with her. And why does this moron always come in between?

As the songs changed and suddenly the famous song, ' Love Me Like You Do - By Ellie Goulding' started to play, Xavier took Viveria's hand and twirled her towards him.

So, Love me like you do...la la love me like you do..

Xavier stared deeply into Viveria's eyes. Viveria was completely in a trance.

Touch me like you do..

Ta ta.. touch me like you do...

What are you waiting for?...

Viveria and Xavier suddenly danced as if they were the only ones in the room. Xavier's eyes were piercing through

Viveria and as he touched Viveria's waist lovingly, they were inches apart.  

Viveria who was lost in Xavier's eyes, couldn't distinguish whether it was her dream or a reality. She however, just danced with Xavier and internally hoped that she could capture this moment in her mind forever. 

As the song came to it's end, Xavier gracefully twirled Viveria and pulled her by the waist, Viveria blushing deeply was too afraid to look Xavier in the eye but at the same time she couldn't resist either.

As they stared at each other and the song came to and end, everybody started staring at them. Many of them were cheering while others were whistling. 

One person however, was really displeased.

It was Daniel!

Why is it that Daniel is always angry at Xavier? Does Daniel have feelings for Viveria?

Will Jackie and Dew be a couple or will their difference in status draw them away?

Is love going to surpass reality? Or is reality going to rule over love?
