5 Miles up

823 Words
You and Jackson finally walked up to the guard. You took a deep breath as you did so. "Numbers?" The guard asked. "20091-30" You responded. When everyone is born there given a number, the 2nd one the year you were born, and the 1st one is the number of people born before you. "19983-30" Jackson said. The guard stared us down for a second. Your POV: O god! GOD, GOD, WHY?! You started panicking inside. Your train of thought was interrupted when the guard said. "Congrats you 2, he handed us a card each. You looked at him with confusion and took the card: Hello number 20091-30! The capital is proud to let you know that you have passed as a scholar! You have proven yourself in ways we can not explain in words, therefore you will be giving a suite at your designated level. Along with your fellow scholars. This year there are 6 others like you. They passed the test the same way you did, you will be sharing a room with these 6 people, we do hope you know at least 1 of them. On the other hand! Enjoy your suite! We here in the capital wish you the best of luck in your future! Sincerely- Capital Education Board You gasped. You felt like crying. You perked up almost instantly when you remembered Jackson. Your POV: Did he make it? What if he didn't?! We would never see each other again!!!! You snapped your neck in Jackson's direction. He had his note in his hand... It seemed like the same one besides his number instead of your own. Did we really both make it?! It was a miracle. You felt your eyes burn up as you practically collapsed on the ground. "Tsk, now don't get too excited. You still have the walk.... 5 miles up? Ready for that?" The guard snickers. Jackson's POV: What the hell is wrong with this guy?? We passed! Is this not a miracle? And he's teasing us?! How could he?! I SWEAR, people like him deserve to burn in hell...or even worse, be fed to Villa sharks. He laughed to himself. You sighed. "Here goes nothing.." Jackson nodded in return. "OH! I forgot! You're getting new clothes! You're a scholar so u go down... The hallways to the East I believe." The guard said. You and Jackson went down the hall and grabbed your new suitcases. It seemed like forever since you got the news you were scholars. And you knew it was going to be even longer before you got to your new homes... Your POV: This is gonna be great... You and Jackson made your way to the gate again, The guard just nodded. "5 miles up?" You asked mostly to yourself. Jackson nodded in response. You and Jackson walked past the gate and went into a narrow hallway that later turned into a ramp. It was probably 5 feet tall causing you and Jackson to duck. You were also kinda squeezing yourself through, the ramp was around 2 feet across. As you and Jack got farther up you noticed some holes in the wall, they looked like they could fit a small human. "Hey Jackson, what do you think those are for?" "Oh! I actually heard that there for people to rest in, they have some at every mile mark." He answered. "Ohhhhh. Wait I thought the guard said we have to do this all in 1 day?" "Meh, he probably just said it to scare us." "I guess..." You were getting extremely bored and there's not much to look at, your mind started to wander to the scene with the guard back at the gate. Where all guards like that? Or was it because we were kids? Or even because we were level 10s.. neither of those reasons was our fault. It really makes you wonder... the guards in level 1 or 2? What where they like? Did they treat the citizens like royalty or were just as rude as the guard at the gate? You silently scolded yourself for asking a stupid question. The people at levels 1,2, and 3 don't have any guards endless you include the police force. You sighed, you and Jackson were now at the 2-mile mark at your legs HURT. The whole walk was uphill and on concrete, your back, and neck were also starting to hurt due to the ramp being so small. "Hey, Jackson do you mind if we stop for a break?" "Hm? Oh sure, you tired or something?" "No, but my backs killing meeeeeee." You wined. He just laughed. "Yeah, same..." Then he somewhat shoved himself into one of the wedges in the wall. "Hah! You hardly fit in there!" You teased. "Well, it's not my fault this thing is absolutely tiny!!" Then mumbled something you couldn't hear. You just laughed in response and wedged yourself in your resting area. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
