Chapter4 - I am divorcing

1070 Words
I woke up today and started my usual day of cleaning and cooking. At the same time, my babies are eating what I have cooked for breakfast. I checked my husband back in the bedroom. He was still sleeping. He needs to be there early today for work at his mother's home. I started shouting at him so he could wake up. When he gets up, I have gathered all my courage to tell him that we need to talk. I am thinking of ending our marriage. He was not responding to me, so I went back to my children. He goes to the shower and I have prepared his daily suit for today. When he got to the table, I joined him. I looked at his plate and he was eating so fast. "Honey, I want a divorce." He was shocked at my statement. He also choked on his food. "What is it, honey? We can't have a divorce. Where will you go? Our son and daughter are very young. Nobody will support them." Annoyed by his words, I asked him "What do you mean nobody will support them? You have to support your child. If I get a divorce, I will move out of this house and you will. Finance your children" "Honey, are you OK? What is your problem? Why do you want a divorce? You married me, you promised to take care of me. We both promised to love each other till death do us part. Do you need anything? Why are you having mood swings?" "First, Aaron, my husband. I don't have a mood swing today! Secondly, I am tired here! You don't appreciate me enough. I have been living with you for 3 years and took care of your children while you were having fun! I gave up my studies because of this marriage. I don't have a career or any financial means for myself. You don't even care what I need, my dear husband. Do you see how messy my life is?" "What do you mean I don't care about you? I have given you a home and food. You don't have to stress yourself at work. You only have to live here and care for our child. Is it not enough for you?" I was about to burst out in anger at him. But this should be resolved with no excessive emotions. So I asked him "Am I not enough for you? I see you only knew me by being a wife. You don't even care how I look or how I smell. I am wearing old clothes and I stink of oil. I know you have been going out, so I am giving you your freedom anyway. Let us get a divorce." "What do you mean going out? I have been to my mother and father's farm! I have worked so hard to give you life and this is what you want? A divorce? No, I won't accept it. I will bring my mother here tomorrow to make some sense to you. Just because you are exhausted and tired, you want a divorce." "I am not just tired! I don't want you in my life anymore!" He was so mad that he got up from the table and said, "We will talk about this later. You are ruining my day" and he left. I have been mad at each other. A lot of times when we were young, but this is insane! I have never told him that I caught him cheating. That is why I want a divorce. If he brings his mother here, he wants to retaliate against me. His mother is insufferable. She always gets what she wants. She has been a constant nag in my life. This is why I never agreed to stay at their house. I am so pissed that I want to move out of this house and get my life back. I looked at my children, and they were crying too. I hugged them to stop them from tearing. I feel bad for these young children. If only mommy chooses to study instead of hanging out with your dumb daddy. But I think divorce is the only way to solve this problem. Hold on, my babies, we will move out of this house sooner or later. You just have to give Mommy some courage to fight back. Then the afternoon came, and he brought his mother. I cleaned the house and prepared some food for their grandmother. When she arrived, she asked her son to play with the kids and be a good dad. She went immediately to the refrigerator and checked out what food I had. She also brought out her vegetables and stocked them on the ref. At least she brings fresh food and meat to our home. Every time she visits her son. Then she went to nag me again about cleaning and cooking. She would always say. I am young, so I knew nothing about household chores. I should be getting lessons at their home on her advice. When she got to the table, she nagged me to always cook soup. Exhausted and tired, I never answered her. I only nodded all the time. When we all finished dinner, she asked me to talk to her in the children's room. While my husband is busy playing and watching TV, She asked me "Why do you want a divorce, my child?" I started tearing up at her. I honestly loved his mother, since she knew how vulnerable I was. When we were young she always knew that I was a smart girl. She knew her child was not that bright. She would always remind me that she was thankful that I had chosen her child. She never insisted on anything when we got married. She knew her child so well that when we were arguing she punished her child. She hugged me so tight, and she also cried with me "My child, whatever it is that you are suffering from him. Let me know, I don't want you to suffer like this. I am not able to tell your mother if you are doing well. I knew my child was hard to teach because he lived in a wealthy home, and he could not adapt to his new environment. I am so sorry if you are suffering because of him"
