The silence felt unbearable. Lyra stood frozen, her heart pounding so loudly she could hear it in her ears. Daniel didn’t move. Kael didn’t speak. But everything had already been said. “I knew something was wrong,” Daniel said finally. His voice was calm. Too calm.
