The silence felt unbearable.
Lyra stood frozen, her heart pounding so loudly she could hear it in her ears.
Daniel didn’t move.
Kael didn’t speak.
But everything had already been said.
“I knew something was wrong,” Daniel said finally.
His voice was calm.

“Explain what?” he asked, cutting her off.
“That you suddenly don’t know how you feel?”
“That you react to him like…” He stopped himself, jaw tightening.
Lyra swallowed hard.
“It’s not what you think.”
Daniel let out a quiet, bitter laugh.
“Then tell me what it is.”
She opened her mouth.
But nothing came out.
Because there was no lie strong enough to cover the truth anymore.
