Afterword to “Be Ashamed to Die”: Rob: I remember the origin of “Be Ashamed” pretty well. I’d been working on a medical-related story series with a writer then named Lynette Meserole. As Lynette M. Burrows, she has gone on to better things (check out her book, “My Soul to Keep”). This had me thinking of the old SF idea of regeneration. What a good idea, and what a neat thing for everyone! But if it makes everybody happy, where’s your story? So, I asked myself, who would be made unhappy by such research? Once I had that, I had, if not the story, at least a good handle on it, and I also knew a sucker I could depend on to do the hard part. And damn if he wasn’t eager to do it!
