Chapter 4

Rowena I hear a deep chuckle fill the room. I look up to see Alpha Beau standing in the doorway with Aria. "It sounds like someone is hungry." Aria's soft voice speaks up. I nod shyly. Beau comes over to where I am unsteadily standing and hoists me up, placing me on his hip. "Shaun said something about not letting you walk on your legs took much. The kitchen is on the other side of the house. We'll start your leg exercises once they are healed. For now, you'll rest and get comfortable." Alpha Beau makes sure to keep his voice soft. I space out while they talk about something or other. "Are you going to eat, little one?" I hear Alpha Beau ask. I realize now that we are in the kitchen. I have a sandwich in front of me that smells kind of sweet. When I bite into it, a burst of flavor hits my tongue. I vaguely recall the sweet taste as honey, but I can't think of the name of the meat. "That's honey ham and cheddar cheese." I hear Aria's voice. I nod my head but continue eating. I take in my surroundings as the Alpha and Luna discuss some pack things. When I finish my sandwich, I climb down off my stool. It's a little awkward to do since I have to keep pressure off my leg. I shiver when my feet touch the cold tile. I look down and see that I'm in sweats and a T-shirt with no shoes or socks. I shrug my shoulders and begin limping my way to the sink. As I turn on the tap, I feel a presence behind me and I whirl around. My eyes widen when I come face to chest with a human wall. That's not Alpha Beau. I let out a squeak when the human wall reaches his hand towards me. I press my back against the sink counter. All I can think to do is look away and close my eyes. When a hand lands heavily on my shoulder, a scream rips through my throat. An audible growl echoes across the kitchen. The heaviness on my shoulder disappears before my legs collapse under my body. Another scream rips from my body as I land on my fractured leg. I'm lifted into someone's arms as my body trembles. "Ramsley, get out of here before I lose control of my wolf." I hear Alpha Beau's voice in my ear as my cheek presses against his chest. As Aria is working with me on calming my breathing, Shaun comes rushing into the room. "Alpha, I need access to her other leg. Can you turn her around?" He keeps his voice calm and level. After a few minutes of moving around, I'm facing Shaun. He pushes my sweats up so he can look at my thigh. He pokes around a bit where the fracture is before sighing softly. "Thank the Goddess. It's still just a fracture, little one. Alpha, might I suggest keeping others away from her until she becomes more comfortable here? It will help her recovery if she isn't collapsing from fear every time something happens. You will also be able to control Tamaska," Shaun says. I feel Alpha Beau move. "We'll get her to her room so she can rest for maybe an hour or so while we have a pack meeting. Make sure everyone knows to be at the meeting in half an hour. Also, have a wheelchair brought to the bottom of the stairs. We'll go shopping when she wakes up. It may be easier on her mind if she can feel more independent," Beau says. "Of course, Alpha.” Shaun says before leaving the three of us in the kitchen. Alpha Beau carries me up a few flights of stairs before entering a bedroom. While he is putting me under the covers, I hear running water in what I assume is the bathroom. "Aria is just getting your pain medication. It'll help you sleep or at least relax. We will be back in about an hour. The bathroom should be close enough for you to get to it on your own. Aria's younger brother will be outside your door. If you need help, throw something at the door. He'll come in and help you with anything." After Beau's words, Aria comes back into the room with a cup of water and a couple of pills. I took the medication quickly before giving them a doodling motion in the air. Soon, a boy a little older than me comes in with a notepad and pen. "This is Aria's younger brother. He will be here to help you and will be your guard," Beau explains. I nod at the boy before looking at the notepad and quickly writing out my question. 'Will this be my permanent home? Or will I be moved somewhere else later?' I showed Alpha Beau the question. He took a moment to read it before looking at Aria. She smiled softly before nodding. "Go ahead and tell her. It'll help her to understand." I am confused by what she said. Alpha Beau nods. "Aria and I have come to a decision. I will email the council for the official papers between now and your Entrance Ceremony. We wish to adopt you, Rowena." Everything fell silent following the Alpha's words. I struggle to comprehend his words at first. Did he say they want to adopt me? The broken Omega who destroyed her whole family. I didn't realize tears were streaming down my face as I opened my mouth to try and force the words out of my closing throat. Aria instantly kneels down and wraps her arms around my body. I cuddle my face against her neck. "Please..." A broken whisper is all I am able to manage before darkness pulls me under. When I open my eyes, I am laying on a bed of flowers. 'Hello again, child. I see you made it to the pack safely.' I hear her voice in my mind. 'Yes, Lupa. I made it to the Crescent Moon pack. The Alpha wants to adopt me. But I don't understand why. I mean, I'm just a broken and worthless wolf. I'm easily startled, I don't know how to act around others. There are so many reasons why it's such a bad idea.' Lupa stood to her feet and sat behind me. I pressed my back against her soft fur as I felt her tail wrap around my waist. 'My child, hear me when I say this. You are not the worthless girl that your old pack made you feel. There is a special kind of love inside of you that they can never take away. Most importantly, you don't have to stay the broken girl they made you out to be. Let the Alpha adopt you. This new pack only wishes to shower you with love. Let them in, child. Those damaged goods that you see are seen differently by others. Remember, you are not a broken girl. You were only pushed aside by a cold and cruel world.' Lupa's softly spoken words filled me with a hope I only dared to hope. 'Lay the shattered pieces of your heart on the ground and allow your new family to put them back together. Be amazed by what love can do.' When I wake , I am back in my bed. A couple of moments later, the door opens before Alpha Beau appears in the doorway. "We just finished wrapping up the meeting. I came in to see if you were awake. We want to take you into town to get things you'll need," He says, walking over to my bed. I yawn slightly before nodding my head. I grab my notebook from my bedside table to write out a quick sentence. 'Can Aria come in and help me get ready?' He nods before smiling down at me. "Of course she can come in and help you dress. I'll go down to fix something to eat while she helps you," He replies before he walks out the door as Aria comes in with a wide smile. After we finish in my room, Alpha Beau comes up and carries me down the stairs. I see a man carrying a wheelchair out to Alpha Beau's truck. I eat what I can before being carried out.
