JAY FORCED HIMSELF to look up at the huge man standing over him and shuddered under the weight of his anger. Red-hot fury was pouring off him.
“Tell me it’s not true. Just tell me that Dazz’s lying and I’ll fix everything.”
Jay saw his way out of this mess, as clearly as anyone could see their own hand in front of their face. He straightened his spine and opened his mouth to utter the lie that would save him. Nothing came out.

His dad’s green eyes roamed over his face, then stopped, a muscle jumping in his jaw as anger settled it. He knew, Jay could see it. So, he set his own jaw, swallowed hard and stood up even straighter.
