Chapter 6 You Are Not Welcome

604 Words
'What's going on?' thought Mariana, startled. She did not know what was going on, but she could hear some screams coming from the crowd, and amid the chaos, she vaguely heard the name of a celebrity. 'A celebrity came to my house for some event?' thought Mariana. Mariana did her best to push her way into the crowd. Under the gaze of the crowd, she walked quickly towards the main entrance. An actress, who was currently being photographed by the journalists, suddenly saw Mariana and mistook her for a houseworker. "Hey, you! Come over here. Lift my dress!" Mariana turned around, glanced at the actress, and asked, "Are you calling for me?" "Yeah, you! Come over here and help me!" The actress sounded impatient as though lifting her dress was a special honor. "Sorry, I'm busy!" Mariana replied coldly and then left in strides. That actress, taken aback by such a cold response, flushed with embarrassment. The reporters, eager to capture a moment, snapped pictures of her being rejected. The actress stared resentfully at Mariana's retreating back, gritting her teeth in frustration. Mariana was dressed very casually. Among a group of well-groomed women, she looked extremely out of place. Even the clothes of the waiters hired by the Barretts today were better than hers. From the moment Mariana entered the door, she had been treated as a servant. A lot of people wanted to boss her around, but she ignored them completely. She had no intention of staying at the place, which was no longer her home. Ever since her dad sent her abroad, she had never seen this place as home. Today, she only came to retrieve what her mother had left for her. Once she took the things, she would immediately leave. Mariana looked around the hall and saw Tia and her mother. They were now celebrities in the elite circles. After Tia entered the entertainment industry, she had been doing well. Over the past four years, she had transformed from an unknown person into the most famous, irreplaceable actress. Noemi was dressed like an upper-class woman, holding a glass of wine as she accepted the congratulations of those around her. Tia was surrounded by a group of influential young people. All of them were speaking nicely to Tia, flattering her and fawning on her. Tia didn't have much to offer in terms of talent, yet everyone envied that she had Bernard to rely on. It must be nice to be flattered, given that Tia had an enchanting smile on her face all the time. But very quickly, the smile on her face froze. Her eyes widened as she caught sight of Mariana, who was walking towards her. 'Why is she back, and at this hour?' Tia was shocked, and it was clear that she did not want to see Mariana. She would never want to see Mariana's face again in her life. Mariana had already made her way through the crowd and stood in front of Tia. She calmly asked, "Where are the things that my mother left for me?" Tia did not immediately answer her. Instead, she only smiled at the people around her. "You people go ahead and have some fun. I have some family matters to take care of, and I'll catch up with you later." "Who gave you permission to be here?" Tia's eyes were immediately filled with anger as though Mariana's return was a personal affront. "I graduated. Of course, I have to come back." Mariana sneered. Tia's face immediately darkened, her voice turning harsh. "If you want your mother's things, come out and let's talk!"
