Chapter Two      The Escape.   As dawn broke the suns rays shone through the open window, the yellow glow casting a steam of light across the bottom of Eva’s bed. Sleep had evaded Eva’s last night in her childhood home, but she had made good use of the time to check and double check everything was in place.  Both her passports were hidden in the side zip pocket of her small carry on suitcase, which was packed with the bare necessities of clothing, toiletries along with a small bag of make-up, all sat on top of the seven thousand pounds worth of cash. Although she would need a laptop to be able to transfer the money from pay pal  into a UK bank account when she was settled, she would not take her own, conscious that most technology could be traced in some way. Eva battled with both wanting and not wanting to leave a note for her parents, but she decided against it in the end. After all they had sold her to that evil family, so they did not deserve to know anything about what she had done, or where she would go, it was better that she just disappeared out of sight. She had printed off the hotel, airline and ferry, tickets earlier that day, her parents had booked the Suite Alfieri at the prestigious Grand Hotel De La Minerve. As it had two bedrooms, one for Eva and her friends, and one for Stephano her guard. Taking her last shower in her hydro shower, Eva dried herself, before applying a small amount of lip balm, then dressing in a pair of skin-tight black jeans, that ripped at the knees, and a black chiffon blouse over a black vest for modesty. She then slipped on her socks and a pair of black and white checked vans. Leaving her long red curls hanging she placed a black sloppy joe hat on her head then pulled out her white leather biker jacket and pulled it on. Taking hold of her suitcase and picking up her black and white Fendi over the shoulder large bag, she headed out of her bedroom door for the last time. “Eva, you are beautiful, but why do you refuse to wear colours? Look at you in black and white again” her mother reprimanded her. The truth was, her lack of colour annoyed her mother, and although she quite like to wear different coloured clothes, she enjoyed this small protest more, and wearing black constantly was a reminder that she was akin to being in mourning for the family she once thought she belonged to, and for her predicament. The fact it annoyed her mother so much was an added bonus, a small amount of payback for what she had planned to do with her father, by agreeing to sell Eva off to Marco Dovizioso. Eva did not respond to her mother, she just offered a small half smile. Her father stood talking to Stephano, giving him instructions, although Eva knew the only instructions that Stephano would take note of were not those of her father, but those of Enzo Dovizioso, he was the real boss. “Ah, tesoro, you are so beautiful, now remember Stephano is to accompany you everywhere, now here is a few euros for you to spend and enjoy.” Her father said handing her a brown envelope stuffed with notes. Eva supressed a sigh, money was like water to her family, and she was never impressed by their shows of wealth even before she found out about their heinous plan to marry her to the mafia. “Grazie Padre” Eva said, before kissing her father on both cheeks. Taking out her mobile phone, Eva saw texts from both Maria and Bella, to say there were on there way. “I have to go, the girls are waiting, Arriverderci” She waved to her parents, as Stephano grabbed her suitcase carrying it out of the house. Eva resisted the temptation to take one more look at her home and walked down the long winding gravel drive to the double ornate gates, where two more guards stood, weapons slung over their shoulders. They gave a courtesy nod at Stephano before opening the gates, and Eva entered into the large cab beside both of the girls she would class as the closest people she had to call friends whilst Stephano placed the suitcase into the boot of the car then jumped in beside the driver to ride shot gun, without a word. Bella and Maria chatted happily about everything they wanted to see in Rome, and how happy they were. Bella also spent most of her time ogling the tall slim Stephano, his black hair slicked back, but he took little to no notice of her obvious intentions of flirting with him. Once again Eva supressed the urge to roll her eyes, after all she had more things to worry about than good looking 20 something Dovizioso henchmen. The flight to Rome was quick, and soon the girls were travelling around the streets of their capital city passing the Colosseum. “We have to visit the Colosseum tomorrow” Eva said as they passed, “Oh, I thought we would shop till we dropped” Bella huffed slightly as Maria nodded her head in agreement with her. The girls were more your typical teenagers, into three things with equal passion, Boys, Clothes and Make-up, the total opposite of Eva. The car pulled up outside the hotel, and the girls squealed in delight when they entered the suit. “Stephano, you are in this room, the girls and I will share the main double room” Eva spoke he voice holding more authority than you would expect from her eighteen years. “No miss, you will take the big bedroom, your friends the twin room, I will sleep on the sofa in the lounge area” Stephano answered Eva had to supress an internal groan, her plans to escape though the night were thwarted, and so she needed to come up with something else, and quick. The girls took a seat on the large white sofa with black cushions, that faced the small window with white drapes with a black panel running down the side. The room was opulent, with a wall mounted TV sat above a stone fireplace, large brass lamps with white or cream shades. “So… what do we do today?” Maria asked “How about some shopping” Bella said immediately “Okay, we can go look at some of the designer shops and boutiques” Eva offered, looking at clothes was not of interest to her, but she wanted time to bond with the girls, as it was becoming apparent, she was going to need their help if she was to get to the airport tomorrow by 10:30 am to check in for her flight.   The three girls forever watched by Stephano had indeed shopped till they dropped, Eva spent some of the money her father had gifted to her on designer handbags for the girls, away of endearing herself to them and buying there help she had formulated a plan and needed them to help her achieve it. They returned to the hotel, tired from walking around all afternoon, and all decided to order room service, and have tomorrow night as a night out. As they ate, Stephano walked outside the door to the suit to stand guard he had reached his limit of teenage girls giggling and squealing about nothing at all, and he was more than a little exasperated with one of the girls attempts to try and seduce him. All Stephano wanted was a better job, one where he could show his worth to the boss, one that would put him in a position of power within the Dovizioso family, but for now, he had to show his worth by guarding the girl that would be married to Marco. As Stephano left the room, Eva instantly spoke with the girls. “I am so sick of being followed by a guard” she huffed out “Oh, but he is easy on the eye” Bella squealed “Not when he is in your face stopping you from having fun twenty four seven he isn’t” Eva sighed. “Do you girls want to go to the Colosseum tomorrow, or go shopping?” Eva asked, hoping they say shopping. “Shopping” both Maria and Bella shouted at once. “Well, I just need some time away from being watched, and I really want to see the Colosseum, so if I give you some money to buy me something nice for tomorrow night, and yourselves something, would you both help me escape Stephano for a couple of hours?” Eva asked, holding her breath. “Ooo, sounds fun, how are we going to do that?” Maria clapped happily “Easy” Bella said with a smile “We tell his sexiness that Eva has her period, lets face it, men never ask to many questions when we talk menstrual cycles, and that she needs to rest, we can send him for Tampax or pain killers, then take them from him and bring them to your room and tell him you are sleeping, but you will have gone while he is out you can head off to the Colosseum and we will go shopping” Bella said Eva looked at Bella as if she was some evil genius “It works with my father when I want to get out of the house to go to a party that he said no to” Bella shrugged. Eva smiled, it could work, and so she began to set the plan in motion. Nervous excitement and fear rushed through Eva’s body as she went to bed that night, wondering how she would get her case down, or what excuse she could come up with for taking it with her for the girls. She needed to come up with something, but her mind would not operate, as it normally does such was her trepidation of what she was going to do. The night passed slowly, but soon the sun rose, and she could hear both Bella and Maria shouting in excitement looking forward to their day. Bella walked into her bedroom, wearing a pair of red satin shorts that left not a lot to the imagination, and red camisole top, that hid nothing of her top half. Then with a wink she walked outside her room once more shouting. “Maria, do you have any tampax” Eva supressed a giggle, at her theatrics, if wasn’t so life and death it would be fun, she thought to herself. “NO why?” Maria shouted back “Eva needs some” she shouted once more. Stephano huffed as he heard the teenagers talking about the feminine hygiene products rolling his eyes. Suddenly like a ninja the girl who was determined to flirt arrived beside him wearing nothing but flimsy PJ’s with her hand on his bicep he needed to get away from her and quick, after all, seeing a half naked girl roaming around the place was more than a distraction, one he returned he really would need a visit to one of the clubs to relieve his tension with one of the many working girls. “Stephano, could you help please, poor Eva is having her monthly visit, and we need pain killers, and tampax, and I can hardly go looking like this” she giggled Stephano froze, he should not leave Eva, but he needed to escape the silly girls, and he would be just five minutes, it was not like she would be left alone. “Please she has such bad cramps” the girl battered her eyes at him. For all he found her more than a little annoying it seemed his manhood had not got the memo, and he felt a stirring he did not want to feel. “We will stay with her, she is quite safe,” the other girl continued Stephano walked into Eva’s bedroom, and saw her wrapped up like a burrito, tears forming in her eyes. Walking out, he nodded his head to the girls. “What do I need to get?” he asked desperate to escape the teenage mayhem.   As the door closed, Eva jumped out of bed, “So, you girls go get ready to go shopping here is some money, get me a dress for tonight, and I will meet you back here for lunch, tell him I am sleeping and to leave the things in the bathroom, I will need your pillows quickly” Eva placed the pillows in the bed and wrapped them up, then as Maria and Bella headed into their bedroom to get ready, she picked up her case and bag, and ran out of the suite, down the stairs, watching for Stephano, looking across the street she saw him at the chemist, but his back was towards the hotel, and so she jumped into a waiting cab, to the Colosseum, then got out, but left her phone pushed down the back of the seat, if they had a tracker on her phone, it would be doing the rounds of Rome, then instantly she flagged another cab and hightailed it to the airport. Her heart pounding in her chest, Eva boarded the plane to Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, and waited impatiently for the other passengers to board, it was mid-day, and it would be around now that Stephano would know she had played him. Her feet bobbing up and down, with nervousness, the doors to the aircraft finally were closed, and the plane was pulled away from the gate, as it made is way onto the runway. Eva looked outside, as the aircraft hurtled down the runway, and the wheels left the ground. “Arrivederci Sweet Roma” Eva sang softly as the roman landscape became smaller, and the clouds became thicker. The two and a half hour flight passed quickly, but Eva understood with private planes available at the drop of a hat to both her father and Enzo Dovizioso she was not free yet. As the plane landed, she rushed with her carry on case and bag to the front of the aircraft, then went through the transfer passport control, and checked in for the flight to San Francisco, before double backing on herself, and stating she had gone through the wrong place to a kindly airport worker, who took her to the passport control that allowed entry into the Netherlands. She then flashed her Emma Stone passport, before walking out of the terminal, and jumping into a cab, and headed straight to the docks, arriving just in time to board the DFDS Queen of Scandinavia Ferry. She made her way to the cabin and locked the door. As she felt the bob and sway of the ferry she breathed a sigh of relief, she was free. Opening the door, she made her way to the deck and taking hold of her Eva Marini passport she threw it into the sea. “Goodbye Eva” she whispered to the vast expanse of choppy water.
