"Layla, Layla dear,wake up!" Slowly opening my eyes but quickly throwing my arm around them I groan out " My head hurts bad." I hear Miss Maye's voice again, " You were dreaming again, probably why you have a headache, you was dreaming about that day." I feel Maye sit down on my small cot and gently strokes my face. "Yes ma'am, I miss them alot." I sadly say. "Me to child." Maye whispers. I try to look at her again, but this headache is really starting to hurt alot. " Why is my head feel like it's being pounded by a hammer?" I almost wanted to cry out. "It might be your wounds, eighteen slahes is alot for anyone to take. I can't believe he went to that extreme, I'm sorry Layla I can't protect you from him. Alpha Barron only allows me to keep the pain down." Maye looks off into space as she speaks, " I can go to the woods and get you the herbs I use to ease your pain would you like for me to go get them.?" I nod my head yes. " okay, I'll be back in two hours just try to rest, I'll let Alpha know that you want be joining training today, your wounds are to much for your body, that you need to rest." Maye leans down and kisses my forehead, I feel her get up and move around the room and finally I hear the door open and shut. Maye is my personal handmaid, and well she going to be my delivery doctor when the time comes. She was my mother's delivery doctor so she's known me since birth, literally. She looks like she is in her sixties, but when I ask her for her age her answer is always" very old and very wise." I always roll my eyes and smile. the people around here call her a witch, I mean sometimes you would think it because she has long grey hair and her eyes are purple, they say in legends witches have a unusual mark, I guess hers is her eyes, they are weird, and plus she goes to the woods and know exactly which herbs she needs, but my thing is if your an expert on plants and such then really anyone can pick it out. Alpha took her that day to, because he found out that not only there was a white wolf, but also a witch in the same "pack", he thinks he's gonna have the most powerful in the world. I can hear his meetings with the pack from my room, he plans on mating with me on my nineteenth birthday have a child to keep his bloodline strong, and in the meantime take over and rule all of the werewolf world, and the witch world, with the help of Maye and I. Maye says he will have to go to war with the royals which is the ones that are actually over the werewolf world. They are very powerful she says, no-one has ever defeated them, they are a pure strong bloodline with their own powers. If your wondering, I have not turn into no werewolf, I haven't gain any powers, if I have I would have done killed everyone here besides maye of course, and set myself free from this hell, Maye and I would start a life with each other as grandmother and granddaughter somewhere far away from here, see ever since that day I have become a firce, female version of jet-li or something in them lines, I train and fight everyday sometimes twelve hours a day, the good part of it is I can get all my anger out on these pathic embesals, I fight till death every day, believe me these ain't no skinny small dudes, these guys are like body builders but twice as big, and don't even get me started on there wolves they are sizes of cars, there so huge sadly they keep them trapped a few cells down from mine, they torture them poor animals, they beat them till either there hanging from shreds or just kill them within a second, it's really sad, and what's even horrible is when I get in trouble one of my punishments is to fight the wolf and since it's always a death match I kill them to, which kills me on the inside I have to see the pleading in there big eyes as I take there last breath each time, Barron knows thats one of my weakness, taking a innocent life, but what Barron doesn't know that behind that crucial barbaric head of his he has made me a weapon for his own self destruction because when the time comes and I can get my chance I will kill him, free them wolves, and we go start our life. Hearing the door shut, I try to open my eyes again but I'm still fighting this headache. " Had to come check to make sure the witch was telling the truth as to why our head mistress can't train with her favorite trainer today." well my sixteen birthday, I was walking to the training field, and this man came up to me, told me Alpha had order me a special dinner for that night, to be at the dinner table at seven, so obeying I did what I was told and walked into the dinning room at seven on the dot, the guy that sent me the message was standing there by himself, my guess you could say my sub conscious told me (to be aware something was off), that's when I heard his voice " that piece of meat is mine now, no-one will hear her scream for help, Barron going to have to delay his little plans, I'm going to devour this little bitch." I watch as he stood there, his lips never once moved only to lick them a few times. I heard what he was thinking, what the actual hell. Noticing my now pale face, running out of there I screamed so loud every door in this place swung open and the man chasing me was flown so far and so hard into a beam, breaking his back, I glanced back and saw Luke, turn the guys neck to the side snapping it in half. Not stopping I ran all the way back to my cell, having stop in my tracks, seeing Barron standing there, raging mad. stuttering"I'm I'm s-sorry he told me you had a special dinner with me tonight, but he wanted to rape me." I cried out. Walking up to me and stroking my tear stain face, " Now now little wolf how did you know that is what he wanted? how do I know you are not just trying to get my men killed for no reason?" After laying there for a hour Maye enters the room, finally. " Layla did you rest at all dear?" Maye ask as she is stirring the herbs around in the cup, I nod yes, " drink, this should soothe the pain," maye gently tilts my head up so I could drink, she right now even a few seconds later the pain has subside alot. I sighing, watching her clean up the mess I finally tell her about Luke and I conversation, she listens quietly, at times her eye brows would come together, like she trying to understand it to. once I'm done I just stare at her waiting for her to say something. After realizing she to lost in thought i break the silence. " You really don't think I should believe him right? I mean he has countless murders on his hands, he took our life Maye, why would he say any of this to me. I don't understand." I quietly say. "Layla, tell me was he telling the truth, no voice or anything came to you as he was talking." she ask looking concern, yes Maye is the only one that knows about the whole voice thing. I hear luke shut the door, keeping my eyes close so maye doesn't realize I just heard there whole conversation, so luke and maye been team mates the whole time, Barron is leaving for five days i heard it takes two to get to where the royals stay, but he staying on there land, for well i guess to scope out there men and routines, and not only that Maye been lying to me about my wolf, she been keeping my wolf away. I know I don't believe but I have never had a reason to believe that I am. note to self no more herb drinking. I'm so ferious but I keep it away so I don't give nothing away, pretending I start groaning and moving around, "Oh Layla, how do you feel? is your headache gone?" nodding my head yes. I sit up and swing my legs over my cot, "Layla, lay down you need to rest some more." Looking at Maye's worried face, I say " I'm fine, your herbs did the job again." Maye looks at me strangely, "but your wounds on your back to much movement and they will open up," she says holding out her hands for me to take, I look away and walk over to the mirror and turn around pull my shirt up and see the scars and bloody patches on my back. standing there for awhile, thinking back to the day my parents died, all the times I fought and killed, to miss maye taking care of me after every beating I got from Barron's room, where chain me to his wall and hit me whip me whatever he wanted to do, to now knowing the one person I trusted with my life has been lying to me, and keeping the one thing that I had always wonder if I really had a wolf in me, and to the man that I once call uncle and a friend, betrayed my family and now wanting forgiveness and helping me get out of here, it's so much to process, but honestly I need them now more then ever, after I'm out of here I'll say my goodbyes to both of them and find my own path. I glance a look at Luke, who has his bad guy aurora back on, I kinda laugh to myself, Maye looks at me and looks at Luke, questioning me with her eyebrows. "Layla training field now, lets do some small training moves." Luke sternly says while walking toward the field, I look at maye who looks like she is in lost thought, catching me catching her, she turns to walk back inside she says " Layla I will be at your service in a few I got to go check on a man who got hurt earlier." knowing she lying, I nod to keep the game going, I walk to where luke is and he is all weaponed up, I stare at him, "we gonna use weapons, pick." luke says pointing to the weapon table, I go over and start stuffing whatever in my pants bra, shoes, a small blade in my bun on my head, and lastly I take the sword and swing it around a few times to get the feel of it. We start sword swinging not hard or fast but slow and easy, thankful because I'm sure I can feel some blood trickling down my back. that's when I heard miss maye scream "RUN NOW, GO!" I froze, Maye is running for dear life as 3 wolves and 10 men are running after her, I go to run to her, but Luke grabs me by the arm and yells "Layla follow me, we have to run fast," "NO, maye" I screamed, I know I'm mad but I'm not going to leave her to die. Luke grabs me and pulls me on his back and takes off running, I look back I don't see Maye nowhere, my heart is racing, we run Luke jumping over falling trees, and dodging branches that are hanging, damn he fast, I dont know how long we were running but he finally comes to a stop at cliff, sliding down from his back I hollered out " ouch!" my wounds on my back were open up and blood was pouring everywhere. "s**t" luke mumbles. "We got to get them covered." "Luke where are we, and where is maye," I'm on verge of tears."she's coming she almost here Layla." I grunt. "I knew y'all were planning something I heard y'all talking, thinking I was asleep, well surprise, why do this luke, all these years you acted like I was nothing, a little girl that you trained everyday, the girl that grew up without love and parent alike normal kids, why are you doing this." finally breaking down in tears," Layla that life is not meant for you. Maye takes one last breath before her eyes close forever. Luke and I sat beside her for hours, when we saw the sun coming up, he picked her body up and moved it to the cliff. I grabbed him "You Will not throw her body off she deserves much more than that." I venomously say. "A witch tradition is when they pass over, you place there body in front of the sun, say a prayer and her body turns to flames, that's the spirits accepting there passing." luke says while playing her body on the ground, He gets down on his knees and starts praying, I come to sit beside him and mock his movement and say a quiet prayer of my own, after we were done moments later her body burst into flames, and purple haze floats toward the sky, whispering " Goodbye". We camp out on the cliff for the night, fortunaly for us Maye had disguised our scent we were safe for now. Luke says a witch power dies when she dies. we only had tonight to stay here. Not sleeping much, morning came and we head out, we stay quiet, I think back to last night how they freed me from Barron and I'm finally getting to see the wonderful world, I take everything in the dirt the flowers the deer, the sound of the flowing river we been following. Everything looks beautiful. Breaking the silence I ask Luke " What happens now, we get to town and go our separate ways, or you taking me to another mad man where I'll be abused for another ten years." I say scarasctically. Luke stops and turns around an looks at him. "Yes we are going to a town, and two it's up to you what you want to do once we get there, no-one knows of your identity, and three I would never put you in that situation again. I promise." with that he takes off walking again.puffing I got back to following his foot steps. After a few more hours of walking, he walk into a clearing full of houses and shopping centers. I get a whiff I something that smells delicious I basically start drooling. "Food" I say out loud not meaning to, I cut my eyes at luke who had a slight smirk on his face, rolling my eyes, I start walking to the direction of the food. Luke grabs me gently by the shoulders and says " let's find a doctor first, get your bandages and stuff clean back up." groaning I agree. We walking the streets passing people that are giving us odd looks, which I don't blame them we look like s**t, dirt Maye's dried up blood on us, Luke ignores the people and keeps on walking, he walks up to a man about his height but much stalkier, luke ask " do you know where I can find a doctor"? the man looks us up and down, thinks for a minute points " go straight all the way down, take a left at the fort, his office is on the right." "Thank-you" luke nods his head and we head to that direction. We get to the doctor office and walk in we come face to face to a short hair blonde women, who has on dark red lipstick, and some raccoon looking eyes, she looks up at us and makes a disgusting face and rudely ask "The barn is on down, filthy animals." not doing a good job of controlling my anger I slammed my hand down on the counter making her pens and stuff fly off, Luke grabs me by the shoulders and shakes his head no. " Luke politely ask "Ma'am as you can see we need to see a doctor, she has wounds that have open up, please." She stares at luke, then finally presses a button and few seconds later a old man comes out with a long white coat with the name dr fanning, he smiles at us and gesture for us to follow him, after luke tells him a crap story we were in a car wreck, came off of the mountain I hit all the trees which is how I got my back tore up, he fixed me up and we leave there, making our way back up the street, we stop by a clothing store change clothes get cleaned up, and the finally we walk into a diner, we sat down order our food, we both sit silently, we ignore the odd and mean looks that we are getting, luke finally says " There's a hotel up the street I saw it on the way in, we can sleep there tonight and in the morning we can move on or stay here, my duty from now on is to follow you, protect you, until my time to become alpha. I want leave you out here in the world on your own till I know for sure you can take care of yourself." I just listen to him, so much has happen in the last twenty four hours, I just need time to process everything on a real bed, and a steamy hot shower, so I just nod, and the waitress brings us our food and I dive in, I swear food is life, it so good I don't think I'm even chewing, I Never got good food, I had left overs. Luke said I could order whatever I wanted, I order a cheeseburger. We finished up, and checked into our hotel room, I went straight for the shower, I rinsed off best I could I wasn't allowed get the bandages wet yet. finally I walk out and luke is sitting at the table looking at a map, I walk on by him and lay in the bed, oh my god, this bed was so fluffy, luke knocks on the wall, and says he jumping in shower, to not go outside and not to answer the door for no-one, he wouldn't have to worry about that because as soon as I heard the bathroom door shut I was out, I woke up from dreaming about Maye dying I was soaked in sweat I got up, grab me some water and open up the window to let some fresh air in, I heard whispering, "Yes, I have her, where in a town, West Creek, yes sir, we can stay put till you arrive, I'm well aware what's going to happen, right yes alpha, see you soon." quickly running back to my bed Luke comes in and looks around for a minute, then he lays down and falls asleep. "no, he will not give me back,Tonight I became my own pack.
