The Pitch
Lexi Thompson strode into the sleek, modern office building, her heels clicking on the polished marble floor. She took a deep breath, mentally rehearsing her pitch for the million-dollar event planning contract. This was her chance to prove herself, to show the tech mogul Ethan Marshall that she was the best in the business.
As she waited for the elevator, she caught a glimpse of herself in the mirrored wall. Her blonde hair was neatly tied back, her makeup was flawless, and her fitted suit screamed confidence. She gave herself a nod of approval.
The elevator doors slid open, and Lexi stepped inside, her heart beating a little faster. She was about to meet the man who could make or break her business.
When she arrived at Ethan's office, his assistant, a friendly-looking woman named Karen, greeted her with a warm smile. "Hi, Lexi! Ethan's ready for you. But let me warn you, he's in a mood."
Lexi's eyebrows rose. "What kind of mood?"
Karen leaned in, lowering her voice. "The kind that says, 'Don't mess with me, or I'll crush you like a bug.'"
Lexi's grin was pure bravado. "Sounds like a challenge."
Karen chuckled. "Good luck! You're going to need it."
Lexi took a deep breath, squared her shoulders, and walked into the lion's den.
Ethan Marshall stood by the window, his back to her, his broad shoulders filling out his crisp white shirt. He didn't turn around, didn't acknowledge her presence.
Lexi's eyes narrowed. Okay, play it cool, she thought. She cleared her throat. "Mr. Marshall, I'm Lexi Thompson from Thompson Events. I—"
Ethan turned around, his piercing blue eyes locking onto hers. Lexi felt a jolt of electricity, like a spark had been lit inside her.
"Ah, Ms. Thompson," he said, his voice low and smooth, like honey poured over ice. "I've heard a lot about you."
Lexi's smile was a little shaky, but she kept going. "I hope it's all good, Mr. Marshall."
Ethan's gaze was like a laser, pinning her to the spot. "Oh, it's all good. You're a very... determined woman, Ms. Thompson."
Lexi's heart skipped a beat. Was that a compliment or a warning? She decided to take it as a compliment and launched into her pitch, her words spilling out like a well-rehearsed song.
Ethan listened, his expression unreadable, his eyes never leaving hers. Lexi felt like she was being dissected, analyzed, and judged. But she didn't back down, didn't flinch.
When she finished, Ethan raised an eyebrow. "That's quite a sales pitch, Ms. Thompson. But can you deliver?"
Lexi's smile was pure confidence. "I can deliver, Mr. Marshall. And I'll make sure you're impressed."
Ethan's lips curved into a slow, sexy smile. "I'm counting on it, Ms. Thompson."
As Lexi left the office, she felt like she'd just been in a battle. But she wasn't sure if she'd won or lost. Yet. As she walked out of the office building, Lexi felt a rush of adrenaline. She couldn't believe she'd just pitched to Ethan Marshall, the infamous tech mogul. She'd heard he was ruthless in business, but she hadn't expected him to be so... intense.
She pulled out her phone and texted her best friend, Rachel: "Just pitched to Ethan Marshall. He's a bit of a jerk 😂"
Rachel responded immediately: "What happened? Spill the beans!"
Lexi smiled, typing out a quick reply: "He's got this whole 'I'm-the-king-of-the-world' vibe, but I didn't back down. I think I might've impressed him? 🤞"
As she waited for the valet to bring her car around, Lexi's mind wandered back to Ethan's piercing blue eyes. She felt a shiver run down her spine. Okay, maybe it was more than just a shiver. Maybe it was a full-on, butterflies-in-her-stomach, can't-breathe kind of reaction.
No, no, no. She was not going to let herself get distracted by a handsome face and a charming smile. She had a business to build, and Ethan Marshall was just a means to an end.
The valet pulled up with her car, and Lexi slid into the driver's seat, feeling a sense of determination wash over her. She was going to make this contract happen, no matter what it took.
As she drove away from the office building, she noticed a sleek black car following her. She wasn't sure if she was just paranoid, but she kept glancing in her rearview mirror, her heart beating a little faster.
Suddenly, the black car pulled up beside her, and Lexi's eyes met Ethan Marshall's. He was driving, his eyes fixed on hers, his expression unreadable.
Lexi's heart skipped a beat. What was he doing? Was he stalking her?
The black car pulled ahead, and Ethan's window rolled down. "Ms. Thompson," he called out, his voice carrying on the wind. "I forgot to mention. I want you to plan a charity gala for my foundation. It's going to be a big event, and I want it to be perfect."
Lexi's eyes widened. This was it. This was her chance.
"I'll make it happen, Mr. Marshall," she called back, her voice confident.
Ethan's smile was a slow, sexy curve. "I knew I could count on you, Ms. Thompson. As Ethan's car sped away, Lexi felt a rush of excitement. She couldn't believe he'd just handed her the contract on a silver platter. Okay, maybe not literally, but it was still a major coup.
She pulled over to the side of the road and let out a triumphant whoop. This was huge. The Ethan Marshall Charity Gala was one of the most sought-after events of the year, and she was going to plan it.
Lexi quickly dialed Rachel's number, barely containing her excitement. "Hey, Rach! Guess what?"
Rachel answered on the first ring. "What happened? Don't keep me in suspense!"
"Ethan Marshall just gave me the contract for his charity gala!" Lexi squealed.
There was a pause on the other end of the line. "Wait, what? The Ethan Marshall? As in, the billionaire tech mogul Ethan Marshall?"
Lexi laughed. "The one and only."
Rachel let out a shriek. "Oh my god, Lexi! This is amazing! You're going to kill it, I know you will."
Lexi grinned, feeling a mix of excitement and nerves. "Thanks, Rach. I hope so. I've got a lot of work to do."
As they chatted, Lexi's mind was already racing with ideas for the gala. She was going to make it the most unforgettable event of the year, and she was going to make sure Ethan Marshall was impressed.
After hanging up with Rachel, Lexi pulled back onto the road, feeling a sense of determination. She was going to make this gala happen, and she was going to make it perfect.
As she drove, her phone rang, and she answered it, expecting it to be Rachel again. But it wasn't Rachel. It was Ethan Marshall.
"Ms. Thompson," he said, his voice low and smooth. "I hope I didn't catch you at a bad time."
Lexi's heart skipped a beat. "No, not at all, Mr. Marshall. What can I do for you?"
"I wanted to discuss the gala," he said. "I have a few ideas I want to run by you. Can you meet me at my office tomorrow morning?"
Lexi's mind was racing. Meeting him at his office? Alone? Was that a good idea?
But she didn't hesitate. "Of course, Mr. Marshall. What time?"
"How about 8 am?" he said. "And please, call me Ethan."
Lexi's heart was beating fast as she agreed to meet him. She was in this now, and she was going to see it through. As Lexi arrived at Ethan's office the next morning, she felt a sense of determination wash over her. She was ready for this, ready to show Ethan Marshall that she was the best in the business.
She was ushered into his office, where he was already seated behind his desk, typing away on his computer. He looked up as she entered, his eyes meeting hers, and Lexi felt a jolt of electricity.
"Good morning, Lexi," he said, his voice smooth. "Please, have a seat."
Lexi sat down, crossing her legs, feeling a sense of confidence. She was prepared for this meeting, had done her research, and was ready to present her ideas.
Ethan leaned back in his chair, his eyes never leaving hers. "So, tell me, Lexi. What's your vision for the gala?"
Lexi launched into her pitch, her words flowing smoothly as she presented her ideas for the event. Ethan listened, his expression unreadable, but Lexi could sense a hint of interest in his eyes.
As she spoke, Lexi couldn't help but notice the way Ethan's eyes crinkled at the corners when he smiled, the way his hair curled slightly at the nape of his neck. She pushed the thoughts aside, focusing on the task at hand.
When she finished, Ethan leaned forward, his eyes locked on hers. "I like it," he said. "You're a very persuasive woman, Lexi."
Lexi felt a rush of pleasure, but she didn't let it show. "Thank you, Ethan," she said, her voice cool. "I'm glad you approve."
Ethan's smile was slow, sexy. "Oh, I approve," he said. "But I think we can make it even better."
Lexi's heart skipped a beat as Ethan stood up, walking around his desk to stand in front of her. He was close, too close, and Lexi could feel the heat radiating from his body.
"We need to make it an unforgettable night," he said, his voice low. "Something that will make the guests talk for years to come."
Lexi's mind was racing, her heart pounding in her chest. She could feel the tension between them, the air thick with anticipation.
And then, without thinking, Ethan reached out, his fingers brushing against hers. It was a fleeting touch, but it sent shivers down Lexi's spine.
"I think we can make it happen," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
Ethan's eyes locked on hers, his gaze burning with intensity. "I think we can too," he said, his voice low.
The moment hung between them, charged with electricity, and Lexi knew that this was just the beginning.
