Chapter 11: The Anniversary Jacob's mind was consumed by memories of his first wife, Sarah, on the anniversary of her death. He couldn't believe it had been a year since she was taken from him. The pain still felt like a fresh wound. As he went about his day, he couldn't shake the feeling of unease. He felt like he was being watched, and the memories of that fateful day kept flooding his mind. He tried to talk to his new wife, Sophia, about it, but he hesitated. He didn't want to hurt her feelings, and he wasn't sure if she would understand. But as the day wore on, Jacob's frustration grew. He couldn't just sit back and do nothing. He needed to know who had taken Sarah from him. He started by reviewing the case files, looking for any clues that might have been missed. He spent hours poring over the evidence, his mind racing with possibilities. As the sun began to set, Jacob made a decision. He would investigate Sarah's death himself, no matter what it took. He felt a sense of purpose ignite within him, a determination to uncover the truth. "I have to do this," he said to himself, his voice firm. "I have to know who did this to my family." And with that, Jacob set out on a journey to uncover the secrets surrounding Sarah's death. He was ready to face whatever lay ahead, no matter how painful it might be. Little did he know, the truth would change everything. The Investigation Begins Jacob sat at his desk, his eyes fixed on the file in front of him. He had been going over the details of Sarah's death for weeks, but he still couldn't shake the feeling that something wasn't right. Just then, his new hire, Alex, walked in. "Hey, boss. What's up?" Jacob looked up, his expression serious. "I need your help with something, Alex. I want you to dig up as much information as you can about the night Sarah died." Alex's eyes widened slightly, but she nodded. "Okay, got it. What specifically do you want me to look for?" "I want to know everything," Jacob said, his voice firm. "Who was there, what happened, anything suspicious. I want it all." Alex nodded, her expression determined. "I'll get started right away." As she turned to leave, Jacob called out to her. "Alex?" "Yeah?" "Be careful, okay? I don't know what we're dealing with here." Alex nodded, her eyes serious. "I will, boss. Don't worry." Jacob watched her go, his mind racing with possibilities. He knew he was taking a risk by investigating Sarah's death, but he couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. And he was determined to get to the bottom of it. Sophia knocked on Jacob's office door, a tray of freshly cooked lunch in her hand. She had made his favorite dish, hoping it would bring a smile to his face on this difficult day. But when she opened the door, Jacob wasn't there. His chair was pushed back, and his computer was still on, but he was nowhere to be found. Sophia's heart sank. She had been trying to be supportive all morning, but Jacob had seemed distant, preoccupied. She had hoped that a nice lunch would help take his mind off things. She set the tray down on his desk and looked around the office, wondering if he had stepped out for a minute. But as she glanced out the window, she saw Jacob's car was gone. Sophia's worry grew. Where had he gone? And why hadn't he told her? She tried calling his phone, but it went straight to voicemail. Sophia's mind raced with worst-case scenarios. Had something happened to him? Was he okay? Just then, Alex walked by the office and saw Sophia looking worried. "Hey, is everything okay?" she asked. Sophia hesitated, unsure how much to share. "I was just bringing Jacob lunch, but he's not here. And his car is gone." Alex's expression turned serious. "I think I know where he might be. Let me go check." Sophia nodded, feeling a mix of relief and concern. What was going on with Jacob? And where had he gone?
