My fingers twisted together on my lap as nervousness crawled beneath my skin.
The entire room felt suffocating.
I still couldn't believe what had just happened.
Kael had done the impossible.
He had stood before his father, before Seraphina, before everyone who could ruin his life, and openly admitted that I was his fated mate.
Not just that.
He had chosen me.
My chest tightened painfully.
He hadn't whispered it in secret. He hadn't hidden behind excuses. He hadn't pretended anymore. He had chosen me in front of the very people who could destroy him for it.
A strange warmth spread through me.
Fear followed immediately after.
Because if Kael's father hated this bond as much as he seemed to, then exposing the truth could only make things worse.
