THE NEED TO KEEP HER SAFE

I deliberately lowered myself beside the bed, locking eyes with the strange new girl in an attempt to intimidate her.
Instead of fear, all I saw burning inside her eyes was pure hatred.
She turned her face away without saying a word, biting down hard on her lower lip to stop herself from hissing in pain. I watched quietly as she placed both palms against the mattress with a shaky breath, her face twisting from the pain shooting through her body.
She was trying to force herself up.
Trying to escape.
Unfortunately for her, the injuries she suffered during that brutal fight had weakened her badly.
The physician I personally hired to treat her already warned me that she needed proper rest and nutritious meals if she wanted to recover fully.
