Episode 4: I Can Make It Happen

1806 Words
Roman's POV "What? It's just a question." I said, looking at her surprised face. She kept staring at me and didn't say a word. "Don't mind me Tee, I shouldn't have asked...." "No.." she said, almost screaming. "What?" I asked again. "That's not it... I didn't expect such a statement." she defended. "Take your time to think about it Tee, I'm not rushing it." I said, giving her a warm look. Her brown eyes gazed into mine and the smiles in them made my heart skip a beat. Through the rest of the evening, she kept her gaze lowered, but I could see the blush on her cheek. When the dinner was over, I escorted her out and we got into the car. As the car started to move, the phone in my pocket vibrated. "Yes..?" I said, my expression cold. I could feel Tina's eyes on me, which meant my response tone was harsh. "Are you still making it for dinner? We already arrived at the mansion." the voice said. "I will call you once I'm done." I said, hanging up. "Who was it?" Tina asked, her brown eyes eluding cuteness. "Nobody of importance. Let's get you home first." I said, patting her head. She giggled a little and smiled at me. Soon, we arrived at her house and she got down. Turning back halfway up the stairs, she waved her small hand towards me and said goodbye. As her figure disappeared into the darkness, I took out my phone and made a call. It rang twice, at which it was answered on the second ring. "Son..." "I can't make it tonight, there's a lot of work to do". I said, leaving no room for pleading. "Can't the others handle it?" the voice sounded pitiful. "I trust no one to do my work. Enjoy your dinner and don't wait for me." "But....." the call was disconnected. "To the company." I commanded. The car left and headed straight to the office. Damien's POV: I noticed the old man's face as the call ended and knew he had been stood up. "He isn't coming?" I asked, watching his expression. "He's busy". he simply replied. I sneered at the excuse and asked. "Too busy even for his own family? Does he even consider us family?" "I said he's busy. If he is busy, then it is so." the old man replied, trying to suppress the anger in his tone. I could guess why he was angry. It wasn't because his precious son couldn't make it for dinner, it was because of my statement but I could care less. The dinner continued in silence but was interrupted by my aunt. "Damien, when did you return?" I looked at her and then avoided the question. "Damien?" "How does my return relate to you?" I asked coldly. She looked at me in shock for a moment and then regained her composure. "Father didn't mention your return. If I had known earlier, aunty would have gotten you a gift." she said, wearing a warm smile. I was about to reply when the old man spoke. "He got back today. Isn't that right boy?" he said, his gaze on his plate. I looked at him coldly and said. "Are you monitoring me, you seem well informed." "You are my son, I know what I need to know." "Is that so?". The atmosphere became tense as we stared at each other for a while. "Father, let's eat peacefully." the other man at the table spoke, easing the atmosphere. "Learn to speak to your father with respect." my aunt scolded. "Isn't he your father too?" I replied, mockery in my tone. She didn't say a word and just kept eating. "That's enough, Damien speak with caution." "That's it." I said, standing up and throwing the napkin unto the table. My patience had ran out. "I'm leaving." I said, turning my back and walking out of the dinning hall. The people at the table sat quietly and watched me leave without saying a word. What was I expecting? Would they stop me leaving the mansion even when they didn't stop when I left the country? I got into my car and drove out. I left the mansion and got to my apartment. I drove the car and parked it in the parking lot, taking the elevator on the ground floor to the third floor. Opening the door, I got inside and went upstairs. I got into the bathroom, had a shower and cleaned up. After dressing, I slumped into the bed and stared blankly at the ceiling. Unable to sleep, I took out my phone and made a call.. "Hello?" the voice sounded from the other end. It had been long I had heard this voice. "Hello, who's this please?" she called out again. Just when I was about to speak, the call ended abruptly. I wanted calling again but then noticed the time; it was late already and I didn't feel like disturbing the soul. At least, the number still went through. I woke up the next day and got up from the bed. Looking at the time, I had overslept. I washed up and went to the kitchen to make myself a meal. Turning on the TV, I didn't pay much attention to it. I got up and took a step towards the kitchen. "The business tycoon of Roman empire and the heir of the Wang family has announced to hold a three day seminar for young people......" Hearing the news, my feet stopped moving and I turned to look at the screen. "Seminar to be held for young developers by the Roman empire." I watched as the reporters covered every detail of the news without missing a point. What was he up to again? I stopped watching and went to check on my meal. After a few minutes, I walked out with a plate and juice in my hand. The screen still displayed the news of the seminar. "Show off." i thought to myself. I decided to change the channel and watch something else, but the more I changed, the more I kept seeing news about this devil. I turned off the TV in anger and ate the food on my plate. What was he trying to prove? That he's a better son? or that he is kind?. Thinking about it only made me agitated more. I decided to leave the apartment and visit Roman, he probably should know I was back. I got to the entrance of the company and parked my car. I looked at the building in front of me and my anger which had subsided before threatened to rise again. Going in, I walked up to the reception desk and asked if he was in. "Do you have an appointment?" she asked, politely and in a friend-like manner. "I don't need an appointment. Tell your boss his brother is here to see him." I said, my expression not changing. She took out a landline phone and called the office. After a while, she gestured me towards the office and I followed suit. Roman's POV There was a knock at the door. "Come in." I said, barely looking at the person. "Sir, someone is here to see you." she reported. I didn't respond, neither did I lift my gaze off the screen. "He says he's your brother...." she went mute, noticing my sharp and quick gaze. Brother? What brother? "Let him in." I said, maintaining myself. She bowed her head and left the office. Soon after, another knock came at the door. "Come in." I replied. The door pushed open and a young man walked in, his footsteps slow as he kept strolling towards the desk. I didn't lift my gaze off the screen. He took a seat without my permission and crossed his legs. "Who told you to sit?" I asked, my tone domineering. "You refused to take your eyes off the screen so I welcomed myself." the man said, not feeling wrong for his actions. I shifted my gaze from the laptop and faced the man in my office. "Long time no see." he said in a mocking manner. "When did you return?" I asked, not caring about his attitude; at least not for now. "Seems the king of power isn't well informed." he sneered. "Your business has nothing to do with me." I said, my tone indifferent. He looked at me for a while and then gave an outburst of laughter. I frowned at the audacity but didn't say a word. "You sure are a funny man Roman." he said, still laughing. I watched him for a while and then turned my gaze back to the laptop. I could see the annoyance on his face from being ignored. Seeing that I wasn't giving him face, he continued speaking. "I heard you are planning a seminar for young people." he said, looking at my expression which remained indifferent. "Don't you think it's a little crazy that the devil is thinking about the wellbeing of people?". My fingers paused for a moment, and my gaze fell on him. "What are you saying?" I asked, trying to be patient. "I mean, are you trying to drag people into hell with you?" he said, looking at me seriously. I kept quiet and continued my work. Frustration grew on his face and he kicked the nearby stool to a side. My expression changed at the sight of this. "Oops, I'm sorry. Can you please not drag me to hell? he pleaded, mockery in his tone. "I could make it happen." I replied, the coldness in my words leaving to his body. He looked at me for a while and then said. "I would love to see you try." I knew what he was after. I kept mute and faced my work. Finishing, I stood up from the desk area and walked into the lounge, pouring myself a glass of water. "You should leave." I said coldly, without facing him. "Don't be so harsh Roman." he said. "I'm being kind by telling you to leave, so don't force me Damien. I said. He could feel my intimidating aura but still showed no fear. He stood up and looked at me, his dark eyes showing a hint of pressure and dominance. "You really take after our father." he said and then turned to leave. I stood at the desk and watched him leave. I walked up to the glass floor to ceiling window and sighted him getting into his car. As if he could feel my gaze, he raised his head and looked towards my direction and smiled. I stood there and watched him leave. I walked back to my seat and continued my work. This matter wasn't something to work myself up for.
