Jane hung up the phone. Her hands were still shaking, but a strange kind of happiness was growing inside her. For the first time in her life, she felt like something good was finally happening to her. No more poverty. No more loneliness. Just easy money and a better life.
Less than an hour later, the shiny black SUV she had seen before pulled up in front of her building. Two of Madam Cynthia’s guards — the same men who had first approached her — stepped out. They were polite and careful with her.
“Madam Cynthia sent us to pick you up,” one of them said with a smile. “She’s very happy you decided to join us.”
They helped her carry her small bag and the new clothes Madam Cynthia had bought her. Jane climbed into the back seat of the SUV. As the car drove away from her old, leaking apartment, she looked out the window at the town she had struggled in for so long. A small smile formed on her lips.
She was very happy.
The drive was smooth. They left the poor part of Willow Creek and headed toward a nicer area on the other side of town. After about twenty minutes, the SUV turned into a quiet, beautiful neighborhood. The houses here were big and well-kept, with green lawns and clean streets.
The car stopped in front of a lovely two-story apartment building. It looked nothing like Jane’s old place. Fresh white paint, flower beds by the entrance, and big windows that let in plenty of sunlight. One of the guards opened the door for her and led her inside.
The apartment they took her to was on the first floor. When the door opened, Jane’s eyes widened. It was beautiful. The living room had soft beige walls, a comfortable couch, and a television on the wall. The kitchen was clean and modern, with a fridge full of food. There was a bedroom with a real bed — big, soft, and covered with clean sheets. A bathroom with hot running water and nice towels waited for her. Bright sunlight poured through the windows, making everything look warm and welcoming.
Jane stood in the middle of the living room, turning slowly. She touched the couch, opened the fridge, and looked at the clean bedroom. Tears of happiness filled her eyes.
“This… this is for me?” she asked in a whisper.
The guard smiled. “Yes. Madam Cynthia wants you to be comfortable. She will come see you tomorrow to explain everything about your new job. For now, just relax. This is your new home.”
Jane nodded, still smiling. She was very happy. The money, the beautiful apartment, the promise of an easy life — it all felt like a dream coming true. She no longer had to worry about rent, food, or cold nights. All she had to do was sleep with one dog, make the videos, and collect her big money.
She sat on the soft couch, hugged one of the new pillows to her chest, and smiled again.
She was very happy.
Jane settled down in her new apartment and felt like she was living in a dream. The beautiful space was nothing like her old leaking room. Everything felt clean, warm, and safe. For the first time in years, she did not have to worry about broken pipes, cold nights, or scraping for food. She walked slowly from room to room, touching the soft couch, opening the clean fridge full of food, and looking at the big, comfortable bed with fresh sheets. A small smile stayed on her face the whole time.
She was very happy.
That evening, Jane decided to take a long, hot bath. She had not had a proper warm bath in a very long time. In her old apartment, the water was often cold or barely worked. Here, she turned on the faucet and watched hot water fill the big, clean tub. She added some nice-smelling bath soap that was already waiting on the shelf. The
sweet floral scent filled the bathroom.
Jane took off her old clothes and stepped into the tub. The hot water wrapped around her body like a gentle hug. She sighed deeply as the warmth soaked into her bruised hip and shoulder. The aches from the car accident slowly eased. She closed her eyes and let the heat relax her tired muscles. For many minutes she just lay there, enjoying the feeling. She washed her hair carefully, letting the warm water run through it again and again. It felt like washing away years of struggle and dirt.
