Chapter Two

1401 Words
Ethan’s POV The birds chirped loudly as the sunlight crept its way into the room, bouncing off the glass walls. She stood there all happy, Smiling on my shirt like she was my Juliet and I, her Romeo. Too bad this Romeo was staying for the ending. “Who did I hand it to?” I replied coldly as my lips fell, my face tightened into a frown. “But why, Is there any issue?” She pressed further. “Leave,” I ordered, pointing to the door. “Now.” I continued walking to the closet where I hung my suit last night. She immediately dressed up in a dark blue long-sleeved gown. Ignoring her, I went to the mirror to adjust my hair. “Ethan, I love you. You should have noticed that already. What we shared last night also verified it and you said you love me too, So why are you fighting the feelings now? You should allow your heart to lead and act on what it says.” She said calmly, tears gathering in her eyes. “Valerie, just because I told you I caught feelings for you doesn’t mean I know what to do with them.” I spat…walking past where she sat at the edge of the bed. “And besides, I have a habit of not feasting twice on the same meal, Repeats are prohibited here. That’s how I’m wired.” I said, picking up my car key and heading for the door. “I hope you understand..” ***** Before me was a stack of paperwork on my desk. They all piled up, demanding my urgent attention. I let a frustrated groan escape my lips as I stood from my seat to relax and stretch out a little. It had been months since I ended things with Valerie. Sticking with one woman wasn't my thing and leading her on would have done nothing but hurt her at the end. But then, I always see her in my sleep. She's been lingering on my mind and I don't know why. ***Flashback*** “Why do you always act like love is a weakness?” she asked with a smile. “Because it is a weakness.” I muttered, lost in her beautiful smile. “No, Ethan. It is what makes us human.” She chuckled, running her finger slowly on my face. ****End of flashback**** Her smile was really beautiful. The way she stared, like she could see through me. Now those memories of her smile and everything haunts me. I don’t do relationships, but why does it feel like I’ve lost a part of me. I knew for sure I didn't want to have any romantic relationship or commitment with her, But for some reasons unknown to me, I couldn't take her off my mind. “What were you expecting? You are in love with that girl. You'll feel attached to her.” Giddy, My PA said. Giddy has been working with me for years now and we've become more like best friends. I share every information about my life with him. “You actually wrote her a cheque? Damn! It's either you are in love or you are insane. Bro…That would have made her feel like a cheap w***e who you deceived into your bed.” “That doesn't matter Giddy.” I rolled my eyes. “I don't even believe in love stuff, you know. So I don't love her and even if I did, I can't be committed to her so there is no point.” “You control a business as huge as this and you don't want to be in a committed relationship? Okay, if you say so. But then, It's been a long time now and you still can't get her off your mind.” Giddy chuckled “And you still say that you don't believe in love? You are just too hard Ethan.” Giddy remarked dramatically but I ignored him, walking towards the window to get fresh air and a nice view of the outside. I groaned, my frustration loud as I tried hard to get Valerie off my head. Could this be true love or what? I've never felt anything like this before, never. Funny enough, despite always thinking about her, I never bothered about going in search of her. My secretary, Paul, told me she stopped attending the training program. “Why am I feeling so concerned about this girl?” I questioned before letting out a deep sigh. I’m concerned about her but I will never let myself go after a woman. Not after I pushed away with my own hands. I never bothered searching for her until now. I’ve never gone after a woman before so I don’t know how to do it. I'd rather pay someone to do the work for me, “You love Valerie but you don’t want to accept it. Just do the right thing and settle down with her, that's all I have to say.” “Would you let me go through my emails in peace?” I yelled at his face. As I turned back to my screen, A strange email caught my attention. “I hope you are ready for the consequences, Ethan.” I squinted my eyes, scrolling around the email to trace the sender but unfortunately it has an anonymous name. “You can yell all you want bro. You clearly love her.” “Please, Giddy, will you let me think straight before you start insinuating what you are not sure about? Why don’t you go out there to look for her and plead, since it feels so easy to you.” I retorted, my face falling into a frown as I relaxed in my seat to trace who the sender of the email was. “Who’s there?” I lifted my brows in curiosity mixed with suspense. The sound of the knock on my door seemed sudden and different. “It’s me, sir,” My other secretary said, her tiny voice echoing. “Come in,” She walked briskly with her phone held differently in her hand. I shifted my gaze from her to the phone and then back to her. “What’s wrong?” “Your mother, Sir.” My eyes bulged out, my lips parted to reign curses, “She is on the line now.” “Drop the phone and get the f**k out,” I ordered and she left immediately, shutting the door behind her. “Mother?” I said in a sarcastic tone, putting the phone on loudspeaker. “Son, why have you been ignoring my calls?” She questioned and I bet she was about to rant over the usuals. “Why have you refused to start up a family? Don't you want to start having children? Do I look like I am getting younger? You womanize yet you don’t have a child? Even your father wasn’t this reckless.” I rolled my eyes, gritting my teeth hoping I didn't explode. A soft gasp escaped me, a moment of release. “Mother..” “I’m not done talking Ethan! I don’t want to believe that you are impotent. Or are you?” She bantered. “And you expect me to always respond to your calls?” I retorted. “Ethan I want you to start up a family and stop this womanizing lifestyle of yours. I am not getting any older and you know it.” Just then, my door flew open, revealing the security standing with a big brown box in his hand with a note attached to the top. “Mother, we’ll have to talk about this some other time.” I hung up, looking at the security with a raised brow. “What’s that?” I asked, expressing my confusion. “I don’t know sir, I found it at the entrance. It’s so heavy.” I collected the box, picking out the note attached to the top of it, I fed my eyes with its contents. “Here’s your piece of cake, Enjoy it.” The note read. My hands went cold. I opened the box and found a baby. The baby—Breathing, alive, staring at me. My world tilted. Those eyes looked familiar, it sent shivers down my spine. His face, bringing memories I tried so hard to forget.
