Chapter 4

CHAPTER 4 It’s been three days since Taylor’s arrival back at the Valmont Villa in Eldoria. Residence of the West family. George West was away on a business trip before the news that his daughter was finally returning; he was as elated as he was occupied. Yet, still managed to scheme a grand high-end arrival fest for Taylor. Taylor was received back into her home like a princess, respected and heavily doted on. It’s been the usual conduct ever since her return. Her old life still haunts her—will forever do, but now is not the moment to fall prey to her grief. She underestimated just how deep the wounds were. There might be scores to settle and a vengeance to satiate, but it’s not going to be a quick fight. Not when she saw the news of her death circulating the local blogs and stations of the small town she thought was her home, and the taunting faces of her betrayals plastered all over written articles as the victim of her loss. “Feeling better?” Keegan’s voice rang into the room before his aura made his presence known. He stood tall, a dull expression on his face as he stared keenly at a sullen Taylor. She’s been in her room ever since they got back, tucked still into bed, and refusing to acknowledge the essence of life. Keegan made it his daily devotion to check up on her every single passing hour and force-fed her the meals she’d leave untouched. “You can’t sulk forever.” He always said that whenever he came around and took a seat beside her on the bed. Unreadable and often distant, Keegan isn’t exactly a man of many words; he is, however, the kind who speaks through his actions. A tear escaped Taylor’s eyes, unable to keep herself from drowning under the weight of her recent experience. The loss of her unborn baby. Her poor baby. Taylor’s hand subconsciously went to her stomach as she massaged it warmly. ‘They took everything!’ From one single tear to an endless pool streaming out uncontrollably. Her eyes snapped shut. “Why…?” The question struggled out in pure agony. George West returned after the fourth day of Taylor’s arrival. When he heard his daughter wouldn’t come out of her bed or her room, he rushed over and met Keegan by her side as usual. “Why is she still like this?” George inquired, displeased with the state he met his daughter in. “Are you going to spend forever rotting on your bed whilst your enemy keeps on winning?” He asked, annoyed. “Is this who I raised you to become? The kind of fire that wallows in shame, pity, and its defeat instead of fighting back?” Each word from George sounded exactly like what Taylor needed to hear as the dying passion of vengeance reignited inside of her. All is indeed lost, but her breath. That remained, and she’s going to use that against them. “I want you out of this misery,” he spoke in a commanding tone. “I need you to show those that brought it upon you a hell greater than what you’re going through.” For the first time in four days, the tears stopped streaming, and Taylor forced her eyes back open. Her father was right. She’s got to step out of this defeat to work towards every dark promise she’s made to Matthew and Shawna, the two people she loved endlessly and trusted with her heart. Taylor forced her wrecked self out of bed to clean up; by the time she came out, all freshened up and free from the shackles of her grief. She was ready for life once again. “I haven’t properly thanked you yet. If it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t be alive, and for that, I owe you.” Taylor saw Keegan and knew she had to address him. Guilt bit at her shattered heart. She remembered his sole warning and what became of his concern. “I’m really sorry, Keegan. I’m sorry for everything I said and how I treated you; you didn’t deserve any of it.” Her voice cracked, and the waterworks approached. “You made a promise to me; I came back for that,” he told her as he pulled her in for a hug. “Never blame yourself for people’s monstrosity.” Taylor eased under the embrace of his comfort. She knew all too well about the promise he was talking about. “You remembered?” She sounded awed. They were kids at the time when she made the promise. Keegan shrugged against her body before pulling away. “I’ve waited ever since.” And that wasn’t a lie. He had waited truly through harsh winters and rough summers, beneath the shadows and behind every closed door. He waited and always waited. “Is this her? Taylor?” Taylor had to swerve her attention off the sturdy face of Keegan to the figure that spawned out of nowhere. Her brows creased. “Who are you?” “I’m Fiona West, your half-young sibling. I’m a twin, but my brother isn’t around at the moment. We’ve always wanted to meet you!” Her innocent face broke into a smile as she closed in on Taylor. “Dad wouldn’t allow us to reach out and said he’s never introducing us unless you come back home,” she said. Taylor couldn’t believe her ears. This was a twist she hadn’t expected. She had siblings?! …………………………… Everything went according to plan for Matthew Rhodes. He got the company transferred to his name and successfully got away with the murder of his wife. Her death was ruled a negligent homicide, and personally composed details were released to the public for statements regarding her demise. Today wasn’t just any day for him, but the day he was stepping into the room as the newest chief executive officer of the company, he never sweated on the foundation. “You look so dashing.” Shawna leered at her attractive boyfriend, sexually intrigued. Matthew grinned back at her. “And I belong to you.” Shawna’s phone buzzed, and she was forced to steer out of the moment. She picked up the call and was instantly plunged into horror. “What is it?” Matthew questioned the look on her face. “I just got a call. The company has been wrecked; it was anonymously bombed overnight!”
