CHAPTER 5
When a maid came up to Taylor to relay that her father demanded her presence in his study room, she hurried her steps out of the scene.
There had to be an explanation for the sudden existence of her siblings, and she was eager to hear it.
George was seated behind the desk when the door flung open, and his precious daughter strolled in. He liked what he saw this time around, not the wreckage that lay rotting in her bed.
He cleared his throat, “Welcome home.”
But Taylor wasn’t there for his greetings. “You cheated on mom?” She confronted him straight away, knotting her brows together in awe.
“Not exactly, and that’s not the reason why I called you in here.” George sent a wave of dismissal. “I called you to ask about your next course of action. I need to know.”
Taylor was in her head. ‘Not exactly. What did he mean by not exactly? Did he or did he not cheat on Mom?’ She pondered within her thoughts.
“How did I end up with siblings?” She asked with all seriousness, folding her arms as she anticipated her father’s response.
Several beats passed as silence locked into the room. George knew Taylor wouldn’t push back unless she had an answer, albeit it wasn’t a story for right now.
“Because your father got drugged and r***d by an obsessive secretary of his many years ago, she turned up pregnant in prison, and those kids were the result.” The answer came out, brusque.
Taylor’s arms dropped as her lips parted slightly. “I—”
He lifted his index finger before more words could pour out of Taylor’s mouth.
“That’s a talk for another day, Taylor. I called you in here to see if you’re fully back. My retirement days are upon me, and it’s either you’re ready or I replace you,” he said without sentiment.
That’s who he is. Nothing he does or says is ever influenced by his emotions or his hidden feelings.
He already offered Taylor her inheritance before, and she refused; this was her last chance to fix the childish mistake.
“I want to apologize for—”
“I’ll listen to your apology when those who hurt you are on their knees begging. Make your pick.”
With a heavy sigh, Taylor did exactly what she was told. “I’m ready.” She made her pick.
George smirked.
“Welcome back home, Taylor West. You’ve got a world to run,” he said, a pun intended.
West Corp majored in all, from tech to modern tools, consumer and lifestyle, military services or individual businesses, as well as creative and media. George West did something nobody has ever achieved.
A successful legacy he’s now choosing to entrust to his daughter.
He knew at a very young age that Taylor was destined for the same greatness he pursued, and if the world hadn’t shown her its true colours. She truly would’ve dominated as she did.
Nexus Inc., Taylor’s company, was already making its way up to the top. George knew that and was always proud of his daughter for that achievement.
He could fling his arm, and those traitors behind his daughter’s downfall wouldn’t wake up to see the light of tomorrow or any other day. He chose to let her fight her battles by herself.
Because once again, a dragon does not give birth to a tiger. He believes in his daughter’s rise from her defeat.
Taylor left her father’s study room conflicted. Two half-siblings out of the blue and a story she never knew existed.
When she arrived back in the living room, she found the girl who had just previously introduced herself as her family, cozying up with Keegan.
Taylor grimaced at her pathetic attempts; couldn’t she read his body signals to realize he was uncomfortable with her presence?
“Ahem!” Taylor cleared her throat, and the girl sprinted far away from Keegan in an instant.
“You’re back.” She pasted a nervous smile, as though aware of her indecent behaviour.
“I have to leave, Taylor.” Keegan stood up as he announced. “It’s urgent, and I’ll be right back.”
Taylor stared at his rigid, handsome face, the promise of a decade-long crashing back into her memory uninvited.
She couldn’t believe he held on to it and that he remembered, and she felt even more guilty for forgetting and carrying on with life.
A decision that came to bite her hard in the a*s.
“Thank you so much for everything!” Taylor threw her arms around him. Tearing up as she realized that he’s the only reason she’s still alive.
He never left, even after everything. He still came back for a stupid promise.
Keegan patted her on the back, his reaction stiff and blank.
“Sister, please let him leave and come tell me all about you.” Her hand reached into the hug and pushed Taylor away from Keegan, a hint of jealousy behind the interest in her eyes.
Taylor knew exactly what just happened but waited for Keegan to be gone fully before she’d address it. These are the signs she saw from Shawna but never questioned.
“What did you do that?” Taylor levelled her a glare once Keegan was gone.
She blinked, taken aback. She hadn’t expected to get called out.
“I’m sorry if that was offensive; I was just so eager to get to know you better,” she came up with an excuse fast without a missing beat, feigning innocence.
The signs weren’t just signs; they were everything Taylor needed to know about Fiona, and she wasn’t someone she’d like to get familiar with.
“Maybe some other time,” she dismissed politely, attempting to walk off.
Fiona quickly placed her foot out in Taylor’s way. Taylor stumbled on the foot like she wanted and crashed helplessly down the marble floor of the living room.
“Oops.” She pulled her palm over her mouth in a fake concern. “It’s nice to meet you, but don’t make it horrible by trying to steal Keegan away from me,” she said as she went over to Taylor.
“He’s no longer yours but mine now. You lost him already, so back off!”
