"Paisley, I am fine,” I tried to get Paisley off me. The doctor that had checked me said there was nothing wrong, just a minor cut on my forehead from accidentally hitting the ice. He said I would be fine.
But Paisley hadn’t let me go since. She strapped herself to me.
“What if you fall again?” she said, choking back tears. My heart tugged at her words.
“Paisley, we are in a parking lot?” I pointed at where we were and the absurdity of the entire situation. “How am I going to get hurt?”
“I don’t know. You are one of the best skaters I know, and even you still slipped on the ice and fell,” she gripped my hand so tightly I felt the blood leave my veins.
“It was an accident. The ice was weak,” I protested. I was already tired from everything. “Look Paisley, let’s just go hom—”
“Elara,” I heard my name being called. I felt irritated already.
“Elara,” the voice called out as they drew closer. “Elara, wasn’t I talking to you?” I felt my shoulder being grabbed hard. I flinched under their touch.
“Damon, what the f**k do you want?” Paisley hissed at him, trying to step between us.
“I wasn’t speaking to you, Morriston,” he shoved Paisley aside.
“Get away from Elara, Damon,” Paisley yelled at him.
“What do you want, Damon?” I asked him. I didn’t have the energy to deal with his shenanigans.
“What is going on with you, Elara?” he blew up at me. “First you said you broke up with me and slapped Rozetta. After you told people we were broken up and didn’t answer my calls and text. Now you are threatening me with a law suit?” He went on his tangent but I just felt hollow on the inside.
“Are you done?” was the only question I asked. “If you are, please leave me be. I am not in the right headspace to deal with your nuisance.” With that I turned, taking Paisley’s arm to head to my car.
“Elara, I am still talking to you—” he yanked at my arm, dragging me backward. I felt a sharp pain underneath the skin of my shoulder.
I already knew it would be bruised later.
“Let me go,” I fought back. I tried to fight back but I was just too tired.
“Let her go,” a voice said, halting both of our movements. I was still too disoriented to register who it was.
“This is none of your business, Draven,” Damon hissed. Wait, Kai? He was here?
“Of course it is. I can’t stand back while you continuously harass her,” he justified.
“I am not harassing her. She is my girlfriend,” he clarified.
“Well she clearly stated on multiple occasions that she isn’t your girlfriend. And to top it off, what kind of boyfriend doesn’t see that his supposed girlfriend is in pain?” I gasped at that. He pointed out my pain that even Damon seemed to have ignored for his own benefit.
“I have had it with you, Draven,” Damon said, storming over to where Kai stood and threw a punch hitting him square in the face
“I didn’t start this. You did,” Kai said after Damon threw the first punch.
Paisley ran off to go get a help while I just screamed at them to stop, i wasn’t physically fit to interseed.
“Enough, both of you!” Paisley interjected, separating them with the security she had called. “Leave, Damon. No one wants you here,” she glared at him, standing next to the security she had called.
He stared back at it. “This isn’t over, Elara,” he hissed before turning his gaze away and storming off.
“Are you okay?” Paisley asked Kai, moving to check his injuries.
“I am fine. Let’s get you ladies home,” he gazed, shifted toward me. I slowly walked to my car and got in the passenger seat.
I saw him and Paisley mumbling outside, then she got in the back seat and him the driver’s.
I was too tired to care. I just rested my head, looking out the window.
Although the drive was filled with Paisley and Kai talking.
But my mind was somewhere else as I watched the city go by. I thought of the vision I just had and what it meant.
But the thing that occupied my thoughts was the fact that Kai, even though he didn’t know me, saw that I was unwell and decided to help me.
While my supposed boyfriend was only demanding and more demanding.
I almost let out a laugh at that. Even in the vision he was demanding, same with now.
My heart hurt when I thought about it. Our entire relationship was fostered on me giving and him taking. Not once did he notice me nor care about me.
No, it’s not that he didn’t care. It’s just that he didn’t care about me.
My eyes stung from the thought. I wanted to cry so badly.
“Are you okay?” Kai’s voice drew my attention back to the present.
“Yeah, I am fine,” I answered, looking around for Paisley.
“I dropped her off. She didn’t want to disturb you. She said you should text her when you get home,” he explained. “You know, I used to think you were this arrogant rude heiress who only cared about herself,” he spoke up again.
“I don’t understand,” I asked. I genuinely did not understand what he was driving at.
“I heard that you sponsored Damon’s entire hockey career. You poured your family resources into him and made him what he was,” he answered. “I resented Damon because of that and resented you the most.” He turned to face me. I could see the bruising on his face from Damon’s first strike.
“Well, your assumptions about me aren’t wrong. I am a stuck-up, arrogant, rude heiress,” I tried to joke, emphasis on trying. But I was just tired.
“He doesn’t deserve you,” were his only words before he got out of the car and grabbed my gym bag.
I walked behind him silently, replaying everything he said. I got to my room, opened it, and he set the bag down before shooting a good night before he left.
I lay down on my bed and digested everything that happened before I started shedding tears.
