Chapter 12

There was no way in hell I was missing something as important as the exhibition. Rozetta. I gritted my teeth and continued my walk back to my dorm. That b***h really thought she had me cornered, even going as far as reporting me to the coach with her made-up excuses. And that pudgy-bellied i***t thought he could get back at me for threatening him. For planning to fire him. Well, this time around I wouldn’t only fire him — I would make sure I ruined him, starting with this matter. Those fools didn’t know who they were dealing with. I would ruin them before they could even think of it. I stared at the people walking past. They were staring at me. Honestly, this was the least of my worries. What those wastes of space thought didn’t matter. My mind was consumed by those two. I finally made it to my dorm, locking the door behind me. I sat down to massage my aching feet. There was no way I would let them get away with hurting me. Benching me from competing in the exhibition tournaments. I took out my phone to call Dante. I needed to deal with that greasy old fool, and I needed it done now. “Dante, I need you to look into someone for me,” I barked the moment the line connected. “I was just about to contact you, ma’am,” he spoke, his voice laced with exhaustion. “What is it, Dante?” I asked. I was already annoyed by Rozetta and that incompetent fool. “It’s Miss Elizabeth and Master Elijah.” I shot up at the sound of my siblings’ names. “What about Beth and Eli?” I asked, panic and worry already setting in. I wanted them both to be safe. “It’s nothing, ma’am. They were exposed to a few coconut extracts and had an allergic reaction,” he explained. “Are you kidding me? What are you people paid to do? Who the f**k let those things pass through to their plates? Their allergens should be your top priority!” I yelled. I was already on edge after hearing what he said. What if Beth and Eli had actually suffered something severe or died because of them? “What about my father? Does he know? Where is he?” I fired off those questions. “We told Sir about it…” His voice went quiet at the end. I knew he was withholding information from me. “And?” I questioned. “He said not to bother him,” Dante answered. I clenched my fist in anger. His own children almost died and he acted like they meant nothing. I wouldn’t expect anything from him. He had always treated them badly from the day they were born. Ever since Mother died during childbirth, he had neglected them, blaming them like they didn’t lose a parent too. Refusing to acknowledge that he had other children apart from me. “I am on my way. Stay with them until I get there,” I hung up the phone and prepared to leave, gathering my purse and booking a ride on an app. My hand gripped the door handle when a violent burst of energy hit me. It felt like my head was on fire. “What the f**k is happening to me?” I crouched down on the floor, gripping my head so hard it felt like my brain was being grated. “Elara, please, we don’t want to leave,” I saw a tear-streaked Beth staring up at me, her lips trembling as she spoke. She gripped my hand in a tight vice. “Please, elder sister, let’s stay,” Eli also gripped my hand, both pleading to stay with me. But I felt it in my bones — they weren’t safe here, no matter how much I wanted them to be. My chest hurt at the thought of sending them away. “I can’t let you stay. It’s not safe for you here.” I cupped both of their cheeks. I felt the tears leave my own eyes. “When everything is settled, I will bring you both home. I promise.” The words felt so heavy on my tongue. I felt terrible for sending them off. A selfish part of me wanted them to stay here with me, but another part knew it was for the best. I looked up, surveying where we were. It was an airport. A nanny and bodyguard stood with them. I clenched the boarding passes before glancing down. Switzerland. “But Elara, we can help you fight,” Beth stepped forward, trying to reason with me, pleading to stay. I shook my head like before. “No. The family is a mess and I don’t want you both getting in the crossfire. I can protect myself, but I can’t protect you both. Sending you away isn’t because I hate you or don’t want you.” I swallowed a lump in my throat. “It’s because I love you that I am doing this. You both, your future, don’t deserve to be ruined because of Father’s mistakes. I won’t be able to live with myself if anything happened to either one of you.” The vision came and went. I was lying on the floor with my face wet and streaked with tears. “What the hell was that?” I said out loud, my hands weaving through my hair. “Was that another vision?” It had to be. Something forced me to stop. So that was another vision, and I would bet everything that it happened when the scandal broke. I was forced to send them away because of it. I clenched my fist, thinking about how all of this was his fault. Not only did I suffer, but they did too. Father of the f*****g year. I stood up on shaky legs and gripped the wall for support. I knew one thing was clear: if the worst came to it, I would protect Beth and Eli with my life. I was glad that never changed, even in the future. They would always be my top priority. I dusted myself off and stepped outside.
