Sara stood outside the towering glass building in downtown Eden Bay, heart hammering against her ribs. It was 9:45 PM. The interview had been scheduled for 8 PM, but Mr. Vance’s assistant had texted her to come later — “he prefers handling promising candidates after hours.” She was 23, fresh out of college, desperate for this marketing position at Vance Enterprises. Her tight black pencil skirt hugged her round a*s, and the white blouse was unbuttoned just enough to show a hint of cleavage. No b*a — she’d left it at home on purpose after reading online that Mr. Vance liked women who “knew how to present themselves.” The elevator ride to the 42nd floor felt endless. When the doors opened, the entire floor was dark except for one office at the end with the lights on. She knocked softly.
