Evelyn's POV
I didn’t move. The night wind slipped between us, a little chill brushing past, making his self-assured dominance look even harsher.
“I’m not going back,” I said flatly.
He closed his eyes, then snapped them open like he’d reached his limit. “Are you done making a scene?”
“I’m not making a scene,” I said, locking eyes with him, speaking each word deliberately. “That place? It stopped being home a long time ago. It’s just a spot where you show up sometimes, and I’m always on standby.”
“Not anymore. I’m done standing by.”
I made a move to step inside, and he grabbed my wrist, stopping me dead in my tracks, his eyes locked onto mine like laser beams.
