She wasn’t there. I checked the clock. Three a.m. Moon still hanging high, and Evelyn was gone. I glanced at my phone. Eight hundred work messages. Not one from her. My clothes were scattered on the floor, but hers? Vanished. I scanned the nightstand, the desk. No note. Not a scrap. Ruthless woman. Lately, the London M&A had me stuck on business trips. Three hours of sleep a night, every day, just trying to wrap up work so I could see her. Honestly, just seeing her face was enough to make it worth it. I even checked her social media daily. But lately… her world was all animals. Fine by me. Way better
