How had I overlooked this?
I had read her profile before. I knew her background. But I had assumed this event would only be attended by CEOs, and she was “just” a regional executive.
Now I wasn’t sure if this was coincidence—
or something else.
“Eve, there you are—I’ve been looking everywhere for you—”
Sebastian’s voice came from behind me before I had the chance to speak, but the moment he saw who we were standing with, he stopped mid-sentence.
Amby gave a slow, knowing swirl of her wine glass.
“Sebastian,” she said smoothly. “Didn’t expect to see you here.”
They didn’t plan this?
My gaze flickered between the two of them, searching for something—anything—but Sebastian only offered a polite smile, as if there were nothing beneath the surface at all
