Love hurts, that much I knew. Many days had passed since the incident with Denis, but my heart hurt just as much. Even more than it did before. With every second I missed him, the pain grew. And it sucked big time.
In movies when the main character goes through a break up, he or she doesn't go out of the house, eat junk food, doesn't bath, cry to sad movies and sad songs, but that doesn't happen in real life. Not when you have to make ends meet at least. Which made the heartbreak even worse. Imagine having to go to work everyday, smile at your colleagues, converse with them, when all you want to do is stay in bed with the curtains closed and think about how miserable you are without him.
Cecelia; my friend since College: she was the closest thing I had to a best friend, wouldn't allow that of course. She had a plan that'd help me forget Denis: lind date. That's the best she could come up with. And if that didn't work she had a plan B, plan C and probably a plan D; she loved making solutions to my problems. And I mind. She was a terrible problem solver. Anyway, I didn't seem to have a choice: I had to meet this Alan guy or I'd never hear the end of it.
He was Cece's friend and he sounded great. I wasn't excited to meet him though, you guessed right, it's cause I'm still stuck on my ex. Cece said Alan was a really tall, handsome guy with amazing hair, and that's who I looked for when I walked into the restaurant.
I had my best dress on, it was tight fitting and the color of red; I was hoping to look sexy. I had on 4 inch silver sandals that went well with the dress.
I looked around for Alan and no one matched his description, also no one was sitting alone. I decided to find a seat figuring he was running late. And it was too late when I saw Denis, he saw me too; our eyes locked and my heart wanted to jump out of my chest. He smiled widely at me and I wanted to slap his smug smile off his extremely handsome face.
Denis was the most good looking guy I knew, everything of his was perfect. His thick hair that has seen more colors than the rainbow, his out of this world facial features: thick eyebrows, chiseled jawline, long nose, full lips and don't get me started on his body. He had the perfect height and mouthwatering abs.
"Simone!" He exclaimed before I could think about turning around and running.
I frowned.
"Come on, come here." He gestured for me to go to him.
I did.
He wasn't alone. Denis was with the company of a young woman, probably two years younger than me, her hair was blonde, her skin pale and her pretty face was decorated with freckles. She wore a cute little blue dress and I was glad I decided to look sexy and not cute.
"Honey, this is Simone. Simone, Gloria; my fiancee." I felt like a knife was plunged in my chest. Fiancee? It's only been a month and he was happily engaged? I found it hard to breathe. It wasn't even the girl I caught him with!
Gloria's dark blue eyes widened, a smile on her thin lips, "it's so nice to meet you Simone, love your dress by the way." I just showed her a small; fake, smile. I couldn't say the same about her, to both.
"What brings you here?" Denis questioned, he seemed to be enjoying this. As if he hadn't done enough. I squinted at him, was this about the stupid Guernsey?
"I'm meeting someone." I don't even know why I answered, it was none of his business! "My boyfriend." I added for safety. I felt uneasy about lying but I couldn't help it. Alan was kind of my boyfriend, no?
'You haven't even talked to him once!' The small voice in my head laughed at me. It was right. But I guess that's how blind dates go.
Denis looked taken back, then he bit his jaw when his eyes ran up and down my body. A small triumph smile played on my lips.
"I better go." I excused myself and sat as further away as I could from him.

I was still looking at the entrance door an hour later, I hated how my heart would jump in excitement and how nervous I'd get whenever a man walked in only to get disappointed when it doesn't turn out to be Alan.
I would catch Denis staring at me ever so often and I could see the laughter in his eyes, the jerk was enjoying this.
I felt an unsettling feeling in my stomach when I thought: what if I get stood up? That was bad enough without Denis having to witness it.
Is he coming?
I texted Cece.
Just then two men walked in, and they brought a noise of a dozen men. Everybody was staring at them, it was how the short one was laughing; so loud, he'd throw his head back anytime he was laughing, his knees bent a little, his friend definitely didn't know how to speak like a normal person; he screamed a lot that anyone paying minimum attention would make out their conversation. I rolled my eyes, I was annoyed at them, yes, but mostly I was annoyed at Alan.
After ordering, the loud one made his way to a table close to mine two beverages in his hands, he caught me staring at him; yes, I was hoping and NOT hoping that he was Alan. I mean he was cute and all but he lacked manners. Look! He just winked at me. I refrained from rolling my eyes and just looked away. Maybe the other one was Alan. But Cece said Alan was really tall. Again, everyone was really tall standing next to her.
I was snapped out of my thoughts by Denis's throaty voice. He ptts'd while shaking his head then with teasing eyes he said, "this is sad Simone!"
"You mean funny, cause you wouldn't be smiling like that." I found myself saying.
He shrugged then tuck his hands in the pockets of his pants, "what can I say? I'm enjoying this."
"Yeah, the smile on your face says it all now can you please leave?" I crossed my arms and bit my teeth so I couldn't cry.
He laughed, "oh why would I? This is just getting interesting." I glared at him wondering: when did he get so childish? I guess he lost his senses along with that Guernsey.
"Just leave me alone." I gritted.
He lifted his hands up, "okay, as you wish." And I could breathe again.
Too soon. He brought his face close to mine, "I don't know why you'd think it would work out with this guy, you're the problem Simone; nobody wants you."
I frowned, where was all this coming from?
I was so close to tearing up but someone spoke before I could let a tear drop.
"Denis Brown." They said. Both Denis and I looked at the person, I was hoping it was Alan but it was just that guy with the terrible laugh; maybe he was Alan.
I saw Denis's jaw tighten, a sign that he was pissed, "Benjamin Hudge." He said the name with so much venom.
Benjamin was smiling so wide but his eyes carried a death glare and the two went into a staring contest.
