I couldn’t move. My feet were rooted to the cracked linoleum of the school cafeteria, yet everything around me blurred in chaos. Screams. Metal clattering. A tray crashing to the floor in the distance. And her— She hung three feet off the ground, back arched, limbs thrashing as invisible hands crushed her throat. Her eyes bulged, lips forming soundless pleas. “Stop!” My voice tore from my throat, but it was useless. No one heard me. No one saw me. I lunged forward—except I didn’t move. I couldn’t. My body was locked, trapped in this horrible stasis as her fingers clawed at her neck, bloody crescents marking pale skin. “LET HER GO!” The thing holding her—whatever it was—didn’t stop.
