The truck groaned where it lay on its roof, glass glittering across the pavement like fallen stars. My breath came ragged, every inhale a knife against my ribs. I clawed at the seatbelt, but my fingers were slick, trembling. A shadow moved. The hunter’s silhouette filled the broken window, its presence crawling across my skin like ice water. Its hand hooked around the mangled door, and with a screech of torn metal, it ripped it clean off. “No…” The word broke against my throat.
