Chapter 10: Quoting Shakespeare

1214 Words
Todd was shocked by what his father had said. “How the Hell did you let this happen?” he asked. Aaron sighed and said, "Todd, please don't ask me that question. All that you need to know is that I love you and your mother very much. I have things to deal with now, and I need you to look out for your mother.” “No, dad.” Tears welled up in Todd’s eyes and he said, “Whatever this is, we will work it out together. I will not leave Edmonton!" "You don't know how powerful the enemy is!" Aaron argued. “It is beyond your ken!” “Don’t worry!” Todd exclaimed. “I killed Jarod, and I’m holding Elmo and Zachery prisoner. We no longer have anything to worry about! I know that they were not acting alone, but we’re off to a good start, aren’t we?" "What?!!?" Aaron was shocked. He could not believe that his son had done the things he was saying that he did. Todd smiled and took out Jordon’s pistol. “You see,” he said. “I killed Jordan with his own weapon.” Aaron was speechless. “What is it that I don’t know?” Todd asked. “You must tell me." Arron sighed and said, “Unfortunately, Jarod is an insignificant person. You killed him for nothing. I don’t know who is behind this big takeover, but they are powerful, and their gravitational pull is sucking me in. Ask for me tomorrow, and you shall find me a grave man.” Todd could not help but smile. “Did you just quote Shakespeare to me? At a time like this?”  Aaron chuckled. “I couldn’t help myself…” “Well cut it out.” Aaron had to force himself to frown. "Are they so powerful?" he asked.  "You don't understand the company's affairs,” Aaron replied. “Our finances were attacked, which has put us in a very precarious position. I am being held responsible for everything that goes on, but everything is out of my control. Eventually, our stocks will crash, our investors will want out, and I will be up s**t creek. It is inevitable, and I have no idea what to do about it. At this point, I am nothing but a figurehead.” “This is unbelievable,” Todd argued. “You are too smart to have allowed things to get this bad. Why didn't you stop this from happening?" "First of all, I have Tame Head,” Aaron explained. "And then there is you and your mother to think about. My life is in my enemy’s hands, as is yours and your mother's." "Tame Head?" Todd was shocked. "Are you talking about dense black bugs?" "Yes." Aaron smiled bitterly and said, "As we speak, those little bugs are lurking inside of my body. They are a dormant state, but there are people that could activate them with a single thought. When they are activated, it feels like you are being bitten by countless ants. Just the thought of it is enough to make me feel terrible. That is why I could not oppose Jarod. “It killed me to watch him dismantle my company, but I refused to put you and your mother’s life in danger.” Todd was horrified, but he was unwilling to give up without a fight. "Is there no solution?" he wondered. “I am afraid not,” Aaron replied sadly. "The person behind all of this is more powerful than you could ever imagine.”  Todd nodded. This had all happened in his previous life, and he had thought that it would be easy to prevent. He had not realized how complicated the problem was, though. More than anything, he wished that he had been given more time to get things sorted out. How much can one person do in a day? – he thought angrily.   Suddenly, Todd grabbed his father’s shoulder and looked him in the eye. “I don’t know if we can come out on top or not,” he admitted. “But I don’t want to go out without a fight! Are you with me?” There were so many things that were in their favor that had not been in their favor in Todd’s past life. For one, Aaron had his son at his side. For two, Aaron had already taken out three major players: Jarod, Zachery, and Elmo. Lastly, Todd had access to the Pretentious system. He called it up, and a script appeared in front of his eyes: Host: Todd Slap-Face Numerical Value: 13,500 points Mall: Unopened Special goods: None Lottery system: Draw Treasure Box Prizes Current task: None Todd looked at the interface in front of him, took a deep breath, and then he asked for the lottery button. A bell rang and the metallic voice said, “Host would spend 10,000 Slap-Face Numerical Value on the Lottery System. Say ‘Yes’ to continue.” Todd smiled and said, “Yes!” A big wheel appeared and it began to spin rapidly until it finally stopped in the column of consumables. Another bell rang and a small golden treasure chest appeared in Todd’s inventory. Right away, he opened it and a red elixir appeared. He touched it and a line of script appeared: System Reminder: Congratulations to the Host for winning Goods No. 2014. Goods No. 2014 contains: One-level Hun Yuan elixir and Efficacy. Efficacy lengthens life and gets rid of all negative states. Todd looked at the elixir, smiled, opened it up, and the office was immediately filled with its fragrance. He handed it to his father and said, "Take this elixir. It should relieve you of your Tame Head." When Aaron saw the elixir, he was shocked. He took the elixir, thanked his son, and drank it right away.  As soon as it went down his throat, his face turned red, and then gray-black. Finally, it returned to its normal shade. Todd stared nervously at his father's face. Since he hadn’t known what the potion was for, it had been very risky for him to push it upon his father. Then, when his father began to scream in pain, he felt a measure of guilt. As Aaron yelled, he gripped the edge of the table, and he began to vomit. Before long, there was nothing in his stomach left to vomit up, and he began to sick up the black bugs that infested his body. The scene – Todd noted – was very disgusting, and it made him angry. The more his father vomited, the more he wanted to get revenge on the person who did this to him. Todd looked at the pained expression on his father's face, and his teeth clenched tightly together. His heart was full of anger, and now more than ever, he wanted to kill whoever was behind this. When there were no more bugs, about two cups of dark oil gushed out of Aaron’s mouth.
