Chapter 21: Todd’s Pyramid

1227 Words
In the beginning, with his family's influence over the city, there had been little that Todd could not do. He could not commit a grave crime like commit murder or rob a bank. Other than that, though, he had free reign of the city and no one could threaten him. Unfortunately, things had changed, and the evil Asian monk seemed to be behind it all. The man had the power to takeover D.S.G. Unlimited, and his influence over Black and White was as strong as the Bower family’s had been. Thus, he assumed that the men who had invaded his home would be back on the streets by the end of the day. This troubled Todd and he wondered if there was a way to use what he knew against the monk. Unfortunately, nothing came to mind. While waiting for the police, Todd notified the property management so that they could have their staff fix his broken door. Then he returned to his room and began to think about the information he had just gathered during his interrogation. The information was fragmented, and it took wisdom to string it all together. Fortunately, Todd's genetics were excellent. His father was a business genius, and when his mother was in university, she had been a goddess, and they had passed their perfect genes on to their son. Todd sat at the desk in his father’s office, took out a piece of white paper, and started to analyze it. There was a picture of a pyramid. “Evil Asian Monk” was written at the top and a “D.S.G. Spokesperson” was written closer to the bottom. In his previous life, that person had been Jarod. He was dead, though, and there was not even a body to mourn. Todd wondered about the mysterious person that had helped the Double Dragon Club. Could he be the evil Asian Monk’s spokesman? – he wondered. He wrote "spokesperson: XX?" under “Evil Asia Monk,” and he used an arrow to indicate that this person was a subordinate of the monk. By now, in Todd’s previous life, his father had already been imprisoned. It would not be long until his father was found dead. Bullying would cause his mother to commit suicide, and then he would be an orphan. The memories still felt very real to him. He remembered how hard he had tried to avenge his parents’ death, and how it had all come to naught. He thought - I was so oblivious back then, and it was my ignorance that fueled my impotence. In his previous life, he had not even known about the Double Dragon Club. According to the confessions he had just obtained from the home invaders, the Double Dragon Club had two bosses, whose names were Jordyn Parker and Zander Yale. Jordyn was the president of the Double Dragon Club. He was brilliant, and his methods were ruthless.   Zander Yale had once been a top underground boxer. He had killed the son of a gang boss in a boxing match, though, and a hit had been put out him. He would have been killed if Jordyn had not rescued him. After that, he joined the Double Dragon Club and became one of the bosses. It was rumored that the gang boss had chased Zander for two days and one night, and once Zander was in a position of power, he sought retribution by killing forty of the gang boss’s healers.  Beneath “D.S.G. Spokesperson,” Todd wrote " Jordyn Parker” and “Zander Yale." In this way, anyone who looked at the paper would see that the spokesperson was the one who gave the orders, and Jordyn and Zander were his subordinates. Finally, Todd read all of the names out loud. These were the people that wanted to kill him and his family. They will pay – he told himself – They will pay with their lives! He gave the pyramid one final glance, and then he folded the note and put it in the drawer. Then, just as h was closing the door, there was a knock at the door. The police had arrived, and when he greeted them, he was surprised by how capable they were. They asked him what had happened and took his statement. Then they took pictures of the door and reviewed the security footage. When they were done, they thanked him for his help. His story checked out, so they put handcuffs on the home invaders and led them out to the cruisers.   ***   On his way to school the next day, Todd stopped at the security gate to talk with the guard, and he was surprised by the amount of respect he was given.    ***   When Todd arrived at the school, a group of people gathered around him, and when he stepped out of the car, he saw Caleb Stone.  Todd forced himself to smile. He waved his hand and said, “Good morning, Caleb. To what do I owe the honor of such a warm welcome?” Caleb’s face turned red, and he spat on the ground. "I've been waiting for you for a long time," he growled. “How do you think that makes me feel?” If this confrontation had happened to Todd in his previous life, he would have been terrified. Now, though, he had six years of hard living to draw from. “Why should I give a s**t about how you feel?” he asked. “You are an i***t, and you are beneath my consideration.” Caleb obviously did not expect Todd's reaction, and he was so stunned that he was momentarily struck frozen and dumbstruck. During this time, Todd was able to push past him, and by the time he recovered his senses, his adversary had made it halfway to the school gates. He looked at his men and shouted, "Stop him!"   Todd came to a casual stop. Then he slowly turned around and said, “No need for force. I have stopped on my own. Go ahead. Do your worst.”   Caleb ran up to Todd, grabbed his arm, and said, "What the f**k does that mean?" “Are you stupid?” Todd smirked and said, “It is a common saying. It means, ‘Go ahead and do as much damage as you can.’ It implies that your best is not worth a penny in a pile of dog s**t. It is my way of saying, ‘Bring it on.’ I am not afraid of you.” Caleb did not know what to make of Todd’s words. He thought – Todd would not be talking this way unless he could back his words up. He looked around frantically. He was afraid, and for the first time in many years, he felt like a child. Not knowing what else to do, he ran up to an adult and tried to get her to hug him, but she refused. By now, the audience had increased tenfold, and many of them were shouting, “Fight! Fight! Fight!” Finally, Caleb motioned to his men and said, “Enough of this bullshit! I want you to beat this motherfucker half to death!”
