Chapter 1
Escape
Rikki Leonard watched as the men lowered the slatted tarp over the cage and secured it with ropes to the sides of the flatbed. She wished they’d left it off. She liked the feel of the wind blowing over her, but she understood why they wanted to keep the public from seeing her.
“How long did you say it’s take you to get there?” a voice inquired. It belonged to Gabe Westin, head supervisor over the felines. Pretty decent guy, the few times she’d interacted with him.
“Two days,” the driver replied, someone she didn’t know. He was just an employee for the company the zoo hired to take her to Miami, where she would be incarcerated in another one of those Plexiglas prisons. If she was going to have any chance of escaping, she had to find a way to do it in the next two days.
