Episode 3:Trail

669 Words
Early the next morning, Marcus gathered a small group of trusted pack members. He chose Alex, Sarah, and Elara to join him. They needed to follow the trail left by the rogue and find more answers. "We have to be careful," Marcus said as they set out. "Stay alert and watch for anything unusual." They moved quietly through the forest, their senses sharp. The sun had just risen, casting long shadows over the trees. The forest was still and silent, adding to the tension they all felt. Alex, who had the best tracking skills, led the way. He found the rogue's scent and followed it carefully. They walked for what felt like hours, the trail winding deeper into the woods. Suddenly, Alex stopped and pointed to the ground. "Look here," he said. "There’s something buried under these leaves." Marcus knelt down and brushed the leaves away. Beneath them was a small, worn leather pouch. He opened it and found a piece of parchment with strange symbols, similar to the one he had seen carved into the tree. Elara examined the parchment closely. "These are witch symbols," she said. "They point to a nearby coven." Sarah looked worried. "Do you think the witches are behind this?" Marcus shook his head. "I don’t know. But we need to find out. Let’s keep moving." They followed the symbols, which led them out of the forest and towards a small, secluded clearing. In the center of the clearing was an ancient stone circle, a place known to be used by witches for rituals. “This is it,” Elara said. “The coven must be close by.” Marcus took a deep breath. "We need to talk to them. Maybe they can tell us more about the rogue and the symbol." Alex frowned. "Are you sure, Marcus? The elders have always warned us to stay away from witches." “I know,” Marcus said. “But we need answers. We can’t let fear stop us.” The pack members exchanged uneasy glances but nodded. They trusted Marcus, even if this was risky. As they approached the stone circle, a figure stepped out from behind one of the stones. It was an elderly witch, her eyes sharp and knowing. She looked at them with a mixture of curiosity and caution. "What brings you here, young Alpha?" she asked, her voice soft but firm. "We need your help," Marcus replied. "A rogue was killed on our land, and we found these symbols. We believe your coven might know what they mean." The witch studied the parchment, her eyes narrowing. "These symbols are indeed from our magic. But we did not kill the rogue." “Can you tell us what they mean?” Elara asked. The witch nodded slowly. "These symbols are part of a warning, a protection spell against dark forces. Whoever killed the rogue wanted to send a message, to both your pack and us." Marcus felt a chill. "What kind of dark forces?" The witch looked around, as if sensing unseen dangers. "There are old enemies stirring, forces that seek to disrupt the balance of power. Your pack and our coven are both targets." “Why now?” Sarah asked, her voice trembling. “Because something has awakened them,” the witch replied. “A force that should have remained asleep.” Marcus clenched his fists. “What do we do?” The witch handed the parchment back to him. “We must join forces, young Alpha. Your strength and our knowledge are needed to face what is coming.” As Marcus and his group left the clearing, he couldn’t shake the feeling of unease. The path ahead was dangerous, and the alliances he formed would be crucial. But he had no choice. They had to face this threat together, or risk losing everything. Marcus look back at the stone circle, knowing their journey had just become much more complicated. Shadows of the past were rising, and the true battle was only beginning.
