Chapter 2

1954 Words
My body screamed in pain the moment I woke up. The entire room was filled with silence and I could only hear the beep beep sound of the ventilator which indicates that I am still alive. When I realised that I'm in a hospital, I immediately removed the dextrose attached to me. But even before I could do that, someone stopped me. I immediately caught sight of a man. He gradually became acquainted with me until I finally remembered where we first met. "It's you again?" I can't believe at my own question. Out of all people, I don't know why he's still with me here now that we don't even know each other. "What am I doing here?" I tried to remember what actually happened. I suddenly remembered that I was at work at the NightClub when my body gave up on its own. I can't help but to get worried because they might even cut my salary. "Let me go! I need to go back to work!" I still moan but he is too hard on me. "You've been f*****g sleeping for two days. Are you planning to leave without paying your bills?" My head got even hotter. "Who told you to bring me here? If you had just left me alone I would have gotten my salary now." "You're so stubborn." "And why are you even worried?" He already stole my first kiss. And now, he's acting like we both know each other. "How much did they pay you?" My eyebrows furrowed even more. I lost the urge to answer him so I just focused on removing the dextrose attached to my arm. After that, I got out of bed. My body was still a bit sore but I still had to stand up because I would lose a lot of money in two days of not working. "I can fully pay your house and your dad's hospital expenses. Rest assured that you'll get something from me too." My lips parted before I angrily looked at him. I didn't know that he wasted his time doing a background check on me. "I'll text you an address sooner or later. If you're willing to work with me, then I will discuss the further details." I didn't waste any chance to prolong our conversation. I left the hospital without even paying. When I took a taxi, I realised that my cell phone had died. I hope that when I get home, Amoli will not be too worried. "You seemed not okay. Don't you ever lie to me this time, Sei. What happened?" She helped me in until I could sit on the sofa. "You've been missing for two days! I immediately reported you to the police. Where did you go?" I don't want her to worry that much, that's why I did my best to compose an effective lie. "I slept with my co-worker so I wouldn't have to pay the taxi fare." "Really? And you're still wearing that cloth when you left two days ago? You're neglecting yourself again!" I feel like mommy's soul is with her. "I want to rest first." She suddenly felt guilty about the sudden raise of her voice so the expression on her face changed. "All right, go to the bedroom. Wait for me there. I'll cook for you." I nodded at her without talking more. When I entered the room, I charged my cell phone before throwing myself on the bed. I just waited a few minutes before I even checked the flooding messages. The first thing I read was the message of my father's doctor. He just reminded me of the two-month period to pay for his hospital expenses and new medication. I also received consecutive texts and miscalls from Aranthia saying that she wouldn't be able to take her final exam when she still has fees at their university such as her uniforms and books that she hasn't paid for yet. Suddenly my head hurt again because I didn’t know where I was going to get the big money. I am in need of almost a hundred thousand. So even though I have already told Amoli that I will no longer accept any of her help financially, it looks like I will eat everything I told her. I got up again to get out of the room because I couldn’t rest properly with so much burden. I go to the kitchen where she cooks. Even before I could get close to her, I heard a call on her cellphone. "Mom, Sei needs me now. You know she's the only one here. She had no one else to lean on. Besides, I sent it to you last week. Let's save first now because it's so hard to earn money." I suddenly changed my mind. Amoli also had lots of siblings to support. I should no longer abuse the kindness she gives me. I still remember that time when she broke up with her boyfriend just for my sake. It's because she's wasting time because after work, she goes to my house to check on me and help. She was indeed worried every time that I forgot to take care of myself. I was often tired from work so I didn't have time to cook. Fortunately, I was able to get instant noodles at the grocery store but she wouldn't let me eat that alone. At some point, I suddenly felt like my mom was alive because of her. With so much she has helped me, I don’t know how else I can make up for it. The next day, I am still not okay. My body is still heavy so even if I want to work and move, I can't do it. I hate myself for just laying in bed for two more days. After work, Amoli always visits me to check on my condition. Even if it was too obvious that she was lethargic, she still didn't hesitate to help me. "Everything will be fine, as long as you get better." I wasn't able to stop myself from hugging her. As I hugged her, my tears secretly dripped. During those times when I felt that everyone left me, she was always there to comfort me. Despite all that was happening in my life, I suddenly realised that I was still lucky. I still had her. "Thank you. Thank you for everything, Amoli.” I haven't been able to work for almost a week so instead of just three part time jobs a day, I did those five. While I was in the middle of thinking, my cell phone rang. An unregistered number just messaged me. Helix Boulevard, Plowden Street 435 I suddenly remember that stranger who brought me to the hospital.I was too desperate to get another job so I tried to find his personal details. I suddenly remembered that there was a small card in the pocket of my blouse when I left the hospital. Maybe, he purposely left it because he knew that I would fall into his trap. I immediately took that card out of my little drawer where I hid it and then borrowed a laptop from Amoli. Ivo Riovich Alcazar I admit his name sounds very nice and looks really wealthy. When I typed his name on a popular social media website, several accounts came up. I do not know why. It's impossible that he has many names so maybe they are posers. He even had a fanpage as if he was a celebrity. Really? Who really is this man? I tried searching and getting more information about him until I accidentally hit a link. I covered my mouth when I saw what was written on it. He came from an elite family. His grandfather was the founder of MVC Royal line, the number one company in the cruising industry. Besides, his brother is one of the lawyers I admire. I was still stunned at the screen so I didn't realise that Amoli was beside me to see what I was doing. "It's the second time that you became interested with someone aside from Comet, Sei." I closed the laptop but she took it from me and opened it again. “You really had a good taste. He’s freaking hot! Where did you meet him? ” “I just saw that they were hiring a worker so I did a background check with their company. I just hope they'll accept me.” “Ofcourse, you will be hired! You're so good at everything that you do, Sei.It’s their loss if they wasted your talents.” I smiled because she believed in me more than I believe myself. "Another thing, it's time for you to find a new love life." My forehead furrowed. "I don't have time for that." “Why not? Don't tell me that up until now, you still haven't moved on from Comet? ” she started teasing me. “I don't like him. I already forgot all about us. ” I wasn't lying anymore. During that night when we had an accidental encounter, I pushed myself to just move on from him. He was no longer the guy I used to admire before. I could see in his eyes how he would treat me. And I also don’t want to force myself on someone who looks down on me. I still had priorities to focus on. I really feel like I'm an old virgin because I'm not interested in getting married. The next day, I decided to meet Ivo. I went to the address he gave me. I realised that the job he would offer me was a great opportunity. Maybe, this was his way of apologising to me. He wants to give me a job. And by the time I got in and was able to work at their company, I was sure all my problems would be solved. Even so, I still couldn’t help but get worried. A lot of things are running through my mind. During that night on our first counter, a group of guys were chasing him. I suddenly felt afraid of him because maybe later, he was a member of a syndicate. Another thing, he also conducts a background check on me. What's his purpose of stalking me? I was overwhelmed with anxiety when I got to the place he gave me so I suddenly changed my mind again. I was about to leave the place he texted me when a black Mercedes benz stopped in front of me. The windshield of the car came down and a man holding the steering wheel appeared. He also removed the shades he was wearing so we both got our eyesight. "Get inside." I could not move from where I was standing. I badly want to run away if he just doesn’t speak again. "I won't kidnap you so clean your dirty mind." I tightened my grip on the shoulder bag slung over my shoulder. I heaved a deep sigh first before following what he wanted. My desperation for money resurfaced so I took care of whatever happened. I quietly got into his car. When I sat down, he immediately handed me a folder. "What's this for?" His forehead furrowed. "Why don't you open it instead of asking?" I felt annoyed at what he said. After that, I opened the contents of the folder and automatically rolled my eyes at what I saw. "I'll give a huge amount. Just sign the paper." I looked at him with brows furrowed. Is he crazy already? I'm so sure he really needs a check up! Why the hell will he ask me to sign a marriage contract?
