CHAPTER ONE - The Raid

Vyn hurriedly went down the stairs because he is running late from the special task force meeting.  The group has finally decided to infiltrate the syndicate which he has been investigating for a long time. “Vyn, have your breakfast first,” his sister, Dessa invited him. “I’ll eat in the office,” he replied as he wears his jacket, “I need to be early in the office today.” “Vyn,” Dessa stopped him, “when are you going to resign as a police? Dee-Lan and I have already finished college.  We can now take care of ourselves; and we can help put up a business for you.” “What have you eaten? Why are you suddenly acting like that?” he asked his sister. “Vyn, the month of March is coming,” Dessa worriedly answered. “Hey,” he held his sister’s chin up, “don’t overthink, okay? And stop believing what the palm reader is telling you.  The curse she is telling you is not true.” “There’s nothing wrong if we believe,” Dessa followed him, “besides, didn’t you notice? Someone close to us dies every three years and in the month of March.” “Our lives is not written on the palms of your hand,” he uttered. “But Vyn, I was twelve when dad died in the car accident,” Dessa insisted. He felt a sudden sadness when he remembered what Dessa mentioned.  His father and Dessa was involved in a multiple collision of cars on the road.  Dessa survived but his father was not able to make it.  Since then, he took the role of a father and a mother to his younger siblings.  “What’s your point, Dessa?” Vyn asked. “If you don’t believe the predictions of the palm reader, how can you explain the death of Cairo three years after the dad’s death and that was on the month of March?” Dessa replied. Due to the recommendation of their superior, Vyn and Cairo was absorbed as part of the Philippine National Police, and because of the expertise they exhibit, they became part of the country’s special task force.  Unfortunately, Cairo died while they were investigating a syndicate that was allegedly running illegal businesses in the country as well as often heard as a group that is gathering forces that threatens the peace and order of the country. “Dessa, you are overreacting,” Vyn answered emotionlessly. “No, I am not! Remember that Ailene died exactly three years after Cairo died and that was also on the month of March,” Dessa is now teary eyed. Ailene was the first woman that Vyn loved.  She runaway from her family because she said her parents would like her to have an abortion.  While running away, two men attempted to rob her but it was good thing that Vyn was around to save her.  When Vyn learned about her situation, he offered to help.  Since then, Vyn took care of her until he fell in love with her.  Unfortunately, it was too late for him to learn that the reason why Ailene’s parents would like her to have an abortion was because she refused to drink her medicines and to continue her cancer treatment.  She refused the medicines because she is afraid of the effect of the medicines to her unborn child, and she suspects that her treatment would lead to spontaneous abortion. Ailene died along with the child she bore.    “It could just be a coincidence,” Vyn reasoned. “Do you think it was a coincidence when Sarah was suddenly gone three years after the death of Ailene and it was also on the month of March?” Dessa placed both of her hands on her hips. “Dessa,” Vyn sighed and placed his hands on Dessa’s shoulders, “if it is a person’s time to die, nothing can stop it.  Besides, why are you so worried about me? Why aren’t you worried about Dee-Lan?” “Well among the three of us, your job is the most dangerous,” Dessa replied. “I will be fine, Dessa,” Vyn tapped Dessa’s shoulders. “Okay,” Dessa sadly sighed, “as long as you promise me that you are going to quit your job once your last mission is done.” “I’ll think about it,” he answered and then warned Dessa, “lock the doors and call me if you are going to leave for work.” _________________   Vyn most of his time researching about the “Lucky Seven” club.  He suspected that this club is connected to the syndicate that caused the death of his best friend.  He promised to himself that he will do his best to destroy the syndicate and that he will come face to face with the person who shot Cairo dead.  He knew that the shooter is not an ordinary gunman because he witnessed everything. *flashback* “Put down all your weapons!” Cairo shouted while he held a young man hostage. Vyn and Cairo’s group went undercover as illegal guns supplier but the syndicate may have a spy because they learned about it and started shooting at them.  Most of their undercover agents died in the exchange of gunfire and Vyn was shot in the shoulder.  Cairo was able to capture one of the young men of the syndicate and he used this young man as their human shield.  Since Cairo is holding the young man, it was Vyn who went to the driver’s seat.  But before Cairo can enter the getaway car, a gunshot from afar fired and it hit between Cairo’s eyes.  He can’t believe what he saw because he knew where the gunshot came from and it was too far. *end of flashback*   “Hey, what have you been up to,” his co-worker tapped his shoulder, “you’ve been very busy all day, I think you have’nt even eaten your lunch.” “Have you been to the ‘Lucky Seven’ club?” he asked. “Lucky Seven? Yeah, one time,” his co-worker answered, “I think that was during Bartolome’s birthday.  Why? Did you suspect that it has illegal transactions?” “I am not yet sure,” Vyn answered while opening a file from his laptop, “ but have you seen this guy there?” His co-worker stared at the picture in the laptop screen and then answered, “I have only been there once but his face looked familiar.” “According to records, this guy is the owner of that club,” Vyn used the back of his pen to point at the picture, “I think I have seen that man, but he was still young then.” “Where? Where did you meet him?” his co-worker asked. “If I am not mistaken,” Vyn uttered, “I think he is the young man whom Cairo took as a human shield for us to be able to escape the ambush.” “If that is true,” his co-worker took a closer look at the picture in the laptop screen, ”then Lucky Seven may have illegal transactions just like the other establishments connected to Amano-Kai gang.” “We are not yet sure about it,” Vyn stood, “we still need to find more evidence.” “Aren’t we going to add the establishment to watch list?” his co-worker asked. “Not yet,” he answered, “I want to be sure about it.” ____________________________ Red, blue, green yellow lights dancing around him as he walked his way towards one table.  This is not his first time in clubs like this but he still don’t like the girls in the place. “Would like to have a girl with you?” a lusty-looking woman asked. “Later,” he answered. That is always his answer whenever women in the club gets near him.  He has no taste for these kind of women.  There was even a time when his co-workers paid a prostitute to seduce him, but no matter what the prostitute do, he was able to resist her. He sat at the dark corner while checking the people in the place.  There were no unusual activity so he decided to order a drink. The show master announced the beginning of their evening special, and he know what it means.  Naked women will start to dance on the floor, hoping for wealthy men to give them easy cash. He took a sip of the beer but paused as his eyes were set on the woman wearing red lingerie who was on the stage, bringing torches on both hands.  Just like any other women, she wore heavy make-up with hair highlights.  But he could not explain why he could not take his eyes of her.  She moved like a professional pole dancer. Her dance is more of an art than of a lust. “If I were you,” a guy sat next to him, “I wouldn’t be interested with her.” “Jumil,” he greeted the guy, “you’re here.” “Yeah,” Jumil nodded, “we have an operation here.” “Hmm?” his only answer. “We’ve been checking on this club weeks ago,” Jumil said before taking a gulp on his drink, “there was a report that this club are selling young girls as prostitute.” Vyn looked again at the woman dancing on the stage, “why did you say that I should not be interested with her?” “She is too expensive,” Jumil answered, “and I’ve never seen her entertaining any customers in this club.” This made him curious about the woman.  ‘Why won’t she entertain customers?’ “I need to go,” Jumil said, “we are about to raid this place.” “Go on,” he answered, “I’ll see you later.” “Have you chosen from our beautiful girls?” a lady pimp came to him. “I want her,” he pointed at the woman dancing on the stage. “Oh I am sorry,” the pimp answered, “choose any other women, just not her.” Vyn took a large amount of money and placed it on the table, “this is yours as long as you help me get near her.” “I can’t do that,” he saw fear in the eyes of the pimp, “I’d rather choose my life than accept that money.” This made Vyn became more curious about the woman.  A lot of questions came to mind and the first among them is, ‘Why is this pimp afraid of that woman? Who is she in this club?’ “I just would like to talk to her,” Vyn insisted and added money on the table. “She doesn’t talk to anyone,” the pimp said, “even I, I haven’t talked to her.” Vyn did not say anything but attempted to get the money on the table.  The pimp changed her mind and placed her hand on the money while saying, “but I can take you to her dressing room.  That’s the only thing I can do for you.” “Good enough,” he answered. “But don’t tell anyone,” the pimp nervously said, “nobody in this club really knew Semira.  She comes to the club only to dance. She only speaks to Daegan and Godfather.” “Godfather?” he asked. “He is the true owner of this club, though only Daegan and Semira has really seen him,” the pimp answered. They saw that Semira ended her dance so he immediately followed the pimp as she lead him to where Semira is heading.  They passed through a dressing room filled with women preparing for their performances.  They reached the end of the dressing room where a door leads to another door which looks like another dressing room. “I can only lead you until here,” the pimp said, “It’s up to you to find a way on how you can get in that room.” Vyn nodded and as soon as people become noisy because of the raid, he forcefully entered Semira’s dressing room. “Don’t attempt to escape,” he warned the lady who is about to escape through the window, “this club has been surrounded.” “Please! I am just here to earn a living,” Semira pleaded. “You can explain at the station,” Vyn said as he handcuffed Semira. “At the precinct? W-wait!” Semira retaliated, “don’t take me to the station.” “Stop resisting, you’ll only hurt yourself,” Vyn uttered. “S-sergeant, I’ll satisfy you,” Semira offered, “take me to your house instead.  I’ll give you free service.” Vyn smirked at her and then said, “I don’t have taste on girls like you.” “Come on,” Semira said, “aren’t you tempted to know what I can offer?” “I have no interest on you or on what you offer,” Vyn replied adamantly. They are already near the van where the other women in the club were taken when Semira stopped walking and pleaded again, “Sergeant, I’ll go with you to the precinct, just don’t let me ride that van.” “And where would you ride?” Vyn angrily asked. “In your car!” Semira quickly suggested, “bring me to the precinct through your car.” “Hey! If you think I will be giving you a special treatment just like how this club treated you, forget about it! You’re riding that van just like the other girls,” Vyn uttered. “So you were able to capture the star dancer,” Jumil amusingly said but before he could answer, Semira pushed him, giving her a chance to ran away from him. “I’ll take care of her,” Vyn said as he ran after Semira. “I’ll see you at the precinct!” Jumil shouted at him. He was able to catch Semira and for her not to runaway again, he took off the one handcuff transferred it to the car handle near the shotgun seat.  He then went to the driver’s seat and started the car.  He followed the police convoy but he noticed that Semira docked so he said, “What are your doing? Sit prop–“ BOOM! He did not finish what he was about to say because the van where the other women of the club exploded.  He lost control of the car and collided at a post.
